Poland - Lines with Obscure or Sparse passenger services

From EGTRE
Jump to navigationJump to search

Introduction

PKP now releases PDF's for both part and all of the current timetable year so this 2017 list is based on services shown either in those relevant to 11 March 2017, or covering the full year to 9 December 2017 suggesting unusual lines use commencing later in 2017. Travellers are strongly advised to check the Journey Planners for ALL Unusual lines timings as changes can and are made on a regular basis.

In 2016 a number of one off specials were included in the PDFs which were listed if they used unusual lines. There are none shown in 2017 but these were:-

  • Frequent excursions run by (Turystyka KolejowaTurkol).
  • Special services run by PKP-PR for the Woodstock Festival (Przystanek Woodstock), the largest Free annual music festival in Europe which is held near Kostrzyn. In 2017 it is from Thursday 3rd to Saturday 5th August and note these trains require special tickets; normal PKP tickets are not valid.

Many Turkol excursions involve the Wolsztyn steam engines and include freight only track not listed below such as to Miedzychod, Lubsko and Kruszwica. See the Turkol website

Standard abbreviations used are explained in General Information. Map references to pages in the "Mały Atlas Linii Kolejowych Polski 2011", ISBN 978-83-931006-3-7, published by Wydawnictwo Eurosprinter, are shown in italics eg R14.

For details of recent and near future route openings and closures, please refer to Poland - General Information.

Obscure services

Connections to and from the CMK

[Tomaszów Mazowiecki – ] Dęba Opoczyńska – p.odg. Zapowiedź – Idzikowice/Radzice

[100, 113, 114] (ERA183A5, E9) PL17/1

Since withdrawal of local trains from Radom beyond the Mazowieckie Regional Boundary, from Tomaszów Mazowiecki to Idzikowice using a 4.5 km west to south link with the CMK remains in use by TLK services listed in table 114, so in 2016 p.odg. Zapowiedź to Radzice only saw use by two Woodstock specials. Apart from knowing the Festival is in early August 2017, unlike recent years no Woodstock train details are yet included in on-line PDF's so the 2016 timings are shown below as a guide.

Southbound would use a separate vertical alignment followed by a flyover to join line 186 avoiding Chruszczobród. Any use northbound would again use line 186 avoiding Chruszczobród station, then run on the east side of the first, then in-between parts of two freight yards north of Łazy. No services identified in the PDF's. Southbound was scheduled during 2016. Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Sosnowiec Dańdówka – p.odg Dorota – Dąbrowa Górnicza Wschodnia

[105] (ERA188B4, R18) PL17/8

No scheduled use in 2017 after all T105 services were diverted as above from 12 June until 3 September 2016. Note this would involve traversal of two lengthy sections with separate tracks at flying junctions either side of p.odg Dorota.

Koniecpol – Kozłów (p.odg. Starzyny)

[107, 109] (ERA182C3, F8) PL17/9

[Łódź –] Gałkówek – Mikołajów [– Tomaszów Mazowiecki]

[114/601] (ERA177C1, E8, R11) PL17/11

There are two possible routes between Łódź and Tomaszów Mazowiecki avoiding Koluszki - the more usual southernmost and direct double track line from Gałkówek via Żakowice Płd to Mikołajów used by express services or the more northerly, single track Line 537 via Słotwiny and Żakowice Połudnowie. Use of both routes appears confirmed in 2017 as a number of PR services have calls at both Słotwiny and Żakowice Połudnowie.

Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Spała

[114] (ERA182C5, E8) PL17/12

PR Łódź sponsored the first passenger service on this branch since 1988 from 2014. In 2016 one pair ran SSuO between 9 July and 4 September but as they were Free with just 75 places needed to be pre-booked via website www.inowlodz.pl. [120] (ERA171B5, R15) PL17/15

Three pairs of IC's were confirmed as diverted onto this route on 31 July 2016 in addition to a possible ongoing workers' service to the closed PKP stations serving the steel works complex at Nowa Huta. The times below are from the 2008 working timetable and it should be noted that the evening and weekend services were worked by a track maintenance draisine with very limited capacity.

[107, Line 100] (ERA171A5 not shown, R15) PL17/16

Official sources have confirmed the following train is booked as described above as it is not shown in any PDF Tables between Częstochowa and arriving at Kraków Plaszów at 07:48.

SuX IC 6300 Wrocław Glówny – 06:05/06:10 Częstochowa Stradom - Kraków Plaszów - Przemyśl Glówny

[140] (ERA182, R15) PL17/17

The following have timings at Plaszów and < markers at Kraków Glówny but as they do not appear in any table immediately to the west of Kraków it is impossible to establish which route they took. Any further information on these would be appreciated by the Compilers

24 Dec 2016 TLK 73160 Poznań Główny - 02:14 Katowice - Przemyśl Główny
27 Dec 2016 TLK 37160 Przemyśl Główny - 02:38 Kraków Płaszów - Poznań Główny

(Przemyśl Główny –) Hurko – Medyka (– Mostys'ka 2)

[122] (ERA184B1, H12) PL17/18

There are three routes between these points; from south to north they are:

  • Line 91, the 1435 mm gauge line into Ukraine, which terminates at the modern SUW 2000 gauge changer at Mostys'ka 2 in Ukraine.

This is used between Przemyśl Główny and Medyka by the recently reintroduced local service shown in Table 122

  • Line 989, a 1435 mm gauge line through the marshalling yards, terminating at Medyka

No passenger services use this line

  • Line 92, the 1520 mm gauge line into Ukraine.

This route is used by the newly introduced return daytime service between Kiev and Przemyśl Główny, operated by Ukrainian railways, with effect from 23 December 2016. However, note that the all year timetable PDF shows this as running only until 10 June 2017.

Prior to the current timetable Lines 91 and 92 were used by the overnight Lviv/Lvov services on alternate days, with either a manual gauge change at Przemyśl (with a longer stop here) or a gauge change at Mostys'ka 2 (with a relatively short stop at Przemyśl). In the current 2017 timetable all services make a long stop at Przemyśl (01:30 to 03:56 eastbound and 00:36 to 02:13 westbound), which implies use of this 1520 mm gauge line. This is reinforced by use of a Peron (platform) of 101 or above being shown on the Przemyśl Arrival/Departure sheets. Reports of actual use by travellers would be appreciated by the compilers.

Oświęcim avoiding curve: Oświęcim OwC1 - OwC

[141/120] (ERA188C4, G7) PL17/25

This north <=> east curve links the Mysłowice and Skawina lines. Used in the last couple of years by diverts from table 140 as indicated by < markers on table 140 at Kraków Glowny, but in 2017 these limited trains cannot be traced in relevant PDF's so it cannot be certain they run this way. Also used by numerous 2016 Woodstock specials which had calls at stations on 141 and 149.

Katowice – flyover departure line – Katowice Brynów (p.odg. Brynów)

[146, 151] (ERA188B3, R17) PL17/26

Westbound departures from Katowice platforms 1-4 towards Katowice Ligota can run either via the main line (line 139) or via a flyover (line 656) over the main line to Gliwice. From observation, all trains departing from platform 1 at Katowice appear to use this route.

Czechowice Dziedzice avoiding line: Goczałkowice Zdrój (p.odg. Most Wisła) – Zabrzeg (p.odg. Ochodza)

[146, 147] (ERA188C3, H7) PL17/27

The north-to-west curve avoiding Czechowice Dziedzice is used by all trains in table 146 and also trains to and from Katowice shown in table 147 with a '<' symbol against Czechowice Dziedzice.

Chybie - p.odg Bieniowiec - [Skoczów])

[148/146] (ERA182A1, H7) PL17/27A

This east-to-south chord was allegedly in use by the following as it appeared in 148, had a | marker at Chybie and extra running time.

Nędza Wieś – Kuźnia Raciborska (p.odg. Turze)

[153/160 not shown but in 154] (ERA188B1, G6) PL17/28

This east-to-north chord avoiding Nędza station is used by trains running direct between Kędzierzyn Koźle and Rybnik. Use was previously indicated by a '<' symbol in table 153 but they now only appear in tables 154 and 220 so must travel via this curve. In 2016 there were also three pairs of Woodstock specials routed this way.

Rybnik – Sumina

[153/160 not shown but in 154] (ERA188B1, G6, H6) PL17/29

There are two routes between Rybnik and Sumina: direct and a longer route via Rybnik Towarowy and Rydułtowy used by all local services. Direct line use was previously indicated by a '<' symbol against the longer route stations in table 153 but they are now omitted and only appear in tables 154 and 220. Therefore it can only be assumed they will again be the only services to travel the direct route, plus use tracks avoiding Sumina station so Reports would be welcomed by the Compilers. Used also by three pairs of Woodstock specials listed on T154.

Kędzierzyn Koźle – p.odg. Stare Koźle - Kędzierzyn Koźle Azoty

[160] (ERA181C2 too detailed to be shown, R14) PL17/31

There are three routes between Kędzierzyn Koźle and p.odg. Stare Koźle.

1. The normal passenger route is the easternmost (line 709), a 4 km single track flying over the curves to the Gliwice line via a staff halt at the PKP Depot to terminate in Peron 1 and this resumed being the usual route for PR local trains with the June 2016 PDF's/Peron sheets.

2. But any southbound service departing Kędzierzyn Koźle platform IV towards Rybnik and Racibórz must use a different route, line 151 on the west side of the yard (where lines 709 and 151 are up to 0.5 km apart) and the following departures are shown in the December 2016 Peron sheets: PR 64301 @ 10.01, PR 99427 @ 12.01, PR 64427 @ 17.01, TLK 64101 @ 19.33 and PR 64435 @ 21.16.

3. In addition from 12 June 2016 Peron IV is used by one northbound arrival from Raciborz which then reverses to head towards Katowice. This TLK 41112, 06.18 Raciborz to Warszawa Wschodnia via Kędzierzyn Koźle [reverse] 06:49 to 07:13 and a 2016 traveller confirmed it used a third route via a normally freight only flyover just south of a road named Mostowa, then line 151 on the west side of the yard northbound.

Lubliniec – Paczyna

[165] (ERA182A3, G6) PL17/32

The maximum of two pairs a day services on this table are the only ones using a 36.5 km section of an otherwise freight only line which has a substantial grade separated junction at Lubliniec.

Gliwice - Bytom

[166] (ERA188A2/A3, G7 R16/17) PL17/33

Regular scheduled use of this former local passenger service line has resumed in 2017. Last use was one short term TLK diversion during Winter 2015. Note that the junction at Bytom is east of the station

Częstochowa avoiding line: Częstochowa Stradom – Kusięta Nowe (p.odg. Kucelinka) (– Koniecpol)

[175] (ERA182B3, R15) PL17/34

This line enables trains between Wrocław/Opole and Warszawa (via the CMK) or Krakow [also using PL17/35] avoid reversing at Częstochowa Osobowa (the main station) by calling instead at Częstochowa Stradom. Use by Warszawa services can be identified in table 175 by a > at Częstochowa.

Częstochowa Stradom - Poraj

[175,102] (ERA182B3; F7 R15) PL17/35

One 2016 Woodstock service from its booked station stops was identified in the Kostrzyn Peron sheets as scheduled to use either short curve Line 702 to/from Częstochowa Raków or via Line 155 and Częstochowa Mirów but the actual route taken is not known. None shown in published December 2016 PDF's for 2017.

Herby Stare – Boronów (p.odg Kalina)

Lisów – Herby Stare

[175] (ERA182A3, F7) PL17/37

The east and westbound routes take significantly different routes through a forest between these points.

Dąbrowa Oleśnicka – Oleśnica Rataje – Oleśnica

[200, 321] (ERA181B5, F5) PL17/38

Most trains between Ostrów Wielkopolski and Wrocław Główny take the direct route via the north to west curve (Dąbrowa Oleśnicka – Oleśnica Rataje – Borowa Oleśnica (p.odg. Łukanów)) avoiding Oleśnica. However some take this north-to-east curve into Oleśnica station and reverse. Either a timing or > against Oleśnica indicates which route is taken. Note this curve and the north to west curve consist of separate single lines between Dąbrowa Oleśnicka and Oleśnica Rataje.

Krotoszyn – Grabowno Wielkie

[200, 321] (ERA 176B1-181B5, E5-F5) PL17/38A

From 20 March to 28 April 2017 the main Warszawa - Wroclaw line is blocked between Ostrów Wielkopolski and Grabowno Wielkie. Regional services are bustituted but ICs are diverted via this route, which lost its very thin passenger service on 10 December 2016.

Zgorzelec avoiding line: Jerzmanki (p.odg. Krysin) – Zgorzelec Miasto (p.odg. Zgorzelec Miasto)

[255] (ERA180B5, F2) PL17/41

Indicated by a < next to Zgorzelec. Trains between Lubań Śląski and Węgliniec previously ran either via Zgorzelec to unusually reverse in service west of the station, [calling twice] or used this Zgorzelec avoiding line to run via Zgorzelec Miasto. From the 2015/16 timetable the limited trains via the above curve continue, but those calling at Zgorzelec were revised to double run across the border to Görlitz in Germany.

[260] (ERA180B5, F2) PL17/41A

According to German sources and Hafas the pair of SSuO Wroclaw - Berlin and vv services will be diverted via this recently electrified and reopened freight cross border line on the weekends of 18/19 and 25/26 March 2017. This is apparently confirmed on this DB website page but as at early February there are no indications of this in PKP PDF's and those dates are not yet databased in the Polish Journey Planner. Any confirmation from Polish sources would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Poznań Franowo

[300/300a/398/430] (ERA180C1, R10&D4) PL17/43

Poznań Franowo is a large marshalling yard and Depot on the south freight ring around Poznań. Extensive engineering work diversions ran from March 2007 until 2011 and since then the only timetabled use has been occasional overnight trains to/from Szczecin and Warszawa avoiding reversal en route, plus irregular Steam charters of complete circuits from Poznań Główny by Turkol. In 2017 these are scheduled for 18/2, 25/11 & 9/12/17.

Within the Franowo area any Turkol anticlockwise complete circuit services can take different routes, either Line 352 on the north side or Lines 823/824, a southside route from p.odg Pokrzywno and a flyover to p.odg Stary Młyn. Line 352 on the north side runs via platforms used by staff trains prior to their withdrawal in approx December 2006 and all westbound or clockwise Turkol charters must take this route. Some previous years Woodstock services also ran via Franowo with different approach/exit routes.

Poznań Gorczyn – Line 801 - Poznań Dębina - [Poznan Starołęka]

[300a] (ERA180C1, R10) PL17/44

Used in 2016 by numerous Woodstock services in both directions between 13 - 17 July with calls at Jarocin and Rzepin and < markers at Poznań Glowny. No 2017 details included in PDF's as at February 2017.

[Swarzędz] - Line 352 - Poznań Franowo - (Poznan Starolęka)

[300a/360] (ERA180C1, R10&D4) PL17/45

Daytime use recommences in 2017 which should run westbound via Line 352, whereas the eastbound service could also run via Line 352; or 823/824 and Line 806 [not shown on Ball or Quail maps] outside the above mentioned flyover towards Swarzędz.

Former Table 315: Częstochowa Aniołow/Herby Stare - Zduńska Wola Karsznice - Inowrocław/Bydgoszcz

The previously scattered EGTRE entries for these over 250km long north - south lines and their numerous junctions have been grouped together from south to north sequenced by combination of previous and current uses. Additional entries have been created for 2017 showing the exact scheduled sections, which includes two very unusual curves.

All of the heading description and most junctions on and off have had either local services, summer overnights or scheduled passenger use, but with none in 2015/16. Partial use has resumed in winter 2016/17, plus a diversion for at least six months via a curve that has not seen scheduled passenger services, if ever, for a very long time. All use has been identified from other tables as no 315 PDF has been published.

Częstochowa Aniołow (p.odg. Wyczerpy) - Chorzew Siemkowice OR Herby Stare - Herby Nowe - Chorzew Siemkowice - Zduńska Wola Karsznice - Zduńska Wola

[315, 173, 175] (ERA182B4 to 177A5; D7,E7,F7) PL17/46

Częstochowa Aniołow via Zduńska Wola to Inowroclaw was in use during the 2015 ski-ing and summer seasons and the June 2016 PDF showed a pair of Turkol operated Pilgrim specials on 15 August with < markers after Zdunska Wola on table 200. These must have used 315 but which option south of Chorzew Siemkowice is not known as they were not shown in 102 nor 175.

Note on 173 there is a significant grade separated junction at p.odg. Wyczerpy, where the lines remain apart and on significantly different vertical alignments for 3 km as far as Rząsawa.

On 315 there is a significant flying junction north of Herby Nowe with the southbound line from Chorzew Siemkowice climbing over the line from Kępno and the north and south tracks diverging by at least 1 km.

Domanin (p.odg. Hanulin - Kępno (low level)- Wielun Dąbrowa

[320/322] (ERA181C1, F6) PL17/55

Kępno is a two level station. The Poznań - Ostrów - Kluczbork line has high level platforms at right angles to the low level Herby Nowe line platforms. There are two connecting curves but all passenger services use the 1.8 km north-to-east outside curve (Line 812) connecting the line from the Ostrów direction with the west end of the low level platforms. It is used by any through services to/from Ostrów via Wieluń Dąbrowa [which after a period of no service should resume again for 25 June - 1 September 2017] and trains that start or terminate at Kępno from the Ostrów direction as there is no facility for trains to reverse at the high level platforms. A huge increase in use from early 2016 continues with departures from Kępno Low Level at 01:34 [Summer only], 05:49, 07:41 SSuX, 09:37, 11:46 SSuX, 13:43, 17:29 SSuO & 19:51 and arrivals at 06:26 [Summer only] 7:26 SSux, 08:20, 11:26 SSuX, 13:20, 15:20 SSuO, 16:19 SSuX, 19:16 and 21:21

Gniezno - Wrzesnia

[321] (ERA176C3, D5) PL17/56

No service ran this way despite 430 PDF markers [IC5324 ran via a call at Poznan Glowny] but sources are suggesting this and onwards to Jarocin may see use later in 2017. No details are shown in the full year PDF's as at January 2017.

Jarocin east side – Golina (– Krotoszyn)

[321] (ERA176B2 not shown, E5) PL17/57

Any trains from the east side of Jarocin station (Peron III) use a line on the opposite side of the marshalling yard and Depot south of the station from the main line, but no current use as all Table 321 services are to/from Poznań Głowny via platforms I and II on the west side of Jarocin station and connecting line 826.

Sulechów (podg Czerwieńsk Wsch.) – Czerwieńsk – Przylep (podg Czerwieńsk Płd.)

[334, 355] (ERA175B2 partially shown, E2 partially shown) PL17/58

Almost all trains between Zielona Góra and Sulechów (- Zbąszynek) avoid Czerwieńsk by the south <=> east avoiding curve (podg Czerwieńsk Południe - podg Czerwieńsk Wschodnia) opened on 9 June 2013. The following through services between Zielona Góra and Zbąszynek via Czerwieńsk are the only ones still using the line from the avoiding curve east junction to Czerwieńsk station, which crosses underneath the Zielona Góra line to the east of the two-sided Czerwieńsk station. The trains also reverse in the south side platforms and use a significant connection to the Zielona Góra line at the east end of the station.

Piła - Piła Towarowa - podg Piła Północ

[340/365] (ERA176A5, C4) PL17/59

There are two routes for tables 340 & 365 leaving the west end of Piła Głowny. The usual line 405 used by passenger trains veers to the south and then crosses the line towards Krzyż on a bridge. The separate normally freight-only line 999 on the north side passes though the freight yard and takes a ground level direct route to Piła Północ, the junction for the Walcz and Szczecinek routes. Only reachable to/from Piła's northerly platforms [4 and above] and saw limited use if another service is booked over the section from Piła Północ at the same time as both routes are single track. However it is shown as booked for all Line 365 services since the 2016 arrival/departure sheets.

Gorzów Wielkopolski

[334/345] (ERA175B4 not shown, D2) PL17/60

Each line uses separate parts of the station, passengers walking between them by subway. Any trains to/from the Międzyrzecz line platforms onto 345 use a lengthy connection of over 1 km to the west and since the April 2017 engineering work closure between Gorzów Wielkopolski Wschodni and the main station, most but not all of the shuttles to/from Kosztryn are locomotive hauled and these have been noted as using the Międzyrzecz platforms as running round is easier here. There had been no scheduled PKP services since 2010 and no scheduled use except occasional Turkol Charters using this connection.

Rzepin avoiding line: Jerzmanice Lubuskie – Drzeńsko (podg. Drzeńsko)

[355] (ERA175A3, D1) PL17/61

In 2016 this was used by a pair of Summer overnights, plus by bridge work diversions between 5 September and 29th October. The line is blocked between Jerzmanice Lubuskie and Rzepin from 07 March 2017 to 10 June 2017 and all trains to/from Zielona Góra to/from Rzepin and Szczecin must use this route, with reversal at Drzeńsko if calling or starting from Rzepin. This includes the Zielona Góra to Frankfurt Oder/Berlin trains.

Rzepin: Connection from Frankfurt(Oder) to Zielona Góra line

[355, 300, M103] (ERA175A3 not shown, D1 not shown) PL17/62

Rzepin is a two sided station with Frankfurt (Oder) to Poznań services using the north platforms and Szczecin to Zielona Góra services the southern platform. There are connections at each end of the station and the one between the Frankfurt (Oder) and Zielona Góra lines at the west end of the yard is a 0.5km link line as shown on the map below. The eastern connection has been used by numerous Woodstock specials.

Szczecin Główny eastern approaches

[361] (ERA170B4, R1) PL17/63

There are two alternative routes from Szczecin Zdroje (p.odg. Regalica) to Szczecin Główny. The shorter northern route runs via Szczecin Port Centralny station into the northern end of Szczecin Główny, and the longer southern route via p.odg. Dziewoklicz and p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo into the southern end of Szczecin Główny. Most IC services and a few PR services take the southern route and may be identified by a '<' symbol against Szczecin Port Centralny.

Szczecin Główny western approaches

[368, 369] (ERA170B4, R1) PL17/64

There are three possible routes from Szczecin Gumieńce to/from Szczecin Główny. From north to south these are: (a) a single track line via Szczecin Wzgórze Hetmańskie and Szczecin Pomorzany, (b) the usual single track direct line and (c) the double track southern loop via p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo - p.odg. Dziewoklicz - Szczecin Port Centralny. No service is allowed sufficient time for the alternatives in the 2017 PDF's and no reports were received of diversions on those allowed up to 15 minutes in the June 2016 PDF's.

Szczecin Podjucy - Szczecin Zdroje

[366, plus 361] (ERA170B4, R1) PL17/65

Use of this curve by limited dated services as listed in the PDF footnotes, assumed to retain crew knowledge in case the substantial bridge over the River Odra is unavailable. Note these services may reverse at Szczecin Zdroje or Szczecin Dąbie. In Summer 2016 eight Woodstock specials were also clearly shown in table 361 to use this curve on dates between 14 - 18 July

Szczecin Dąbie avoider

[370, 360] (ERA170C4, R1) PL17/66

No Scheduled use in 2017 except the southbound returning Turkol special “Katamaran” scheduled this way on 25 June 2017.

Kołobrzeg Port

[off 375] (ERA170C3, B2) PL17/67

A normally freight-only branch which passes through the city streets to terminate on the Quayside adjacent to the Lighthouse. The annual Poznań Główny - Kołobrzeg "Pirat" steam excursion resumed running to the Port some years ago, joined from 2012 by a Diesel hauled excursion "Katamaran". The 2017 dates are 27/28 May and 25 June respectively with details on the Turkol website.

Rogoźno Wielkopolskie - Wągrowiec

[395] (ERA176B4, D4) PL17/68

A former freight-only line which reopened to passengers between 1/6/2011 and 28/2/12 [Wiki] when table 390 services between Wągrowiec and Poznań Wschód were diverted due to engineering works. Turkol charters are shown to use this route on 4 June and 11 November 2017.

Iława

[400/405/500] (ERA172B1, B8) PL17/69

There are two routes between Iława station and Działdowo, the Malbork – Warszawa main line diving under the Toruń – Olsztyn line from the north side, plus Line 968, a curve from the south side platform also serving a freight yard. Trackwork means trains to/from Działdowo booked at platform 3 cannot reach the diveunder line so these must use line 968. Much increased use in the 2017 Station departure sheets.

PR 90623 Działdowo – 07:09 Smolniki - Iława
PR 90625 Działdowo – 16:29 Smolniki - Iława
SSuX PR 90627 Działdowo – 18:37 Smolniki - Iława

SSuX PR 90635 15:05 Iława - Działdowo
PR 90654 16:05 Iława - Działdowo

It should be noted in addition to the above that departures from Iława Peron 1 & 2 can also reach Line 968 but the regular non-conflicting route for Malbork - Iława - Działdowo services is the diveunder. Additionally all Olsztyn - Iława - Malbork services use connections at the Olsztyn end of the station to cross to the north side platforms. Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Prabuty - Kwidzyn

[415] (ERA172B1, B7) PL17/70

One train using this line appeared in the annual PDF's for table 400 but was believed to have been cancelled. This 33km freight only line 218 had been used for limited diversions during 2014.

Toruń Główny – podg Nieszawka (Suchatówka)

[405] (ERA177A4, R3) PL17/71

There are two routes: the more northerly via Toruń Towarowy yard climbs over the Bydgoszcz line whereas the alternative passes through Toruń Kluczyki station. Trains calling at Toruń Kluczyki (all PR services) must use the southerly route. TLK services, which have a "<" marker against Toruń Kluczyki, are booked to take the northerly route but in practice may use either.

Czersk - Bąk - Kościerzyna

[429] (ERA171C2, B6) PL17/72

This 42km line was used by a Summer overnight passenger service in 2016 but no scheduled service in 2017. The Turkol website is showing a steam excursion travelling this route on 9 April 2017 departing Czerk at 15:33.

Lipowa Tucholska - Bąk - Kościerzyna

[429] (ERA171C2, B6) PL17/73

This route overlaps with PL17/72 between Bąk and Kościerzyna. No use in 2016 but the Turkol website shows a steam excursion travelling this route on 11 April 2017 departing Kościerzyna at 09:30

Tczew - Rokitki Tczewskie (podg Malinowo) via line 727

[426] (ERA172A2, R2) PL17/74

There are two alternative routes approaching Tczew from the Chojnice line: the double track main line, which runs on a lengthy embankment to fly over the Gdansk lines to the east side of Tczew station, and a single track at ground level (line 727) to the west side. All platforms can be reached by arrivals from line 727 so it is not possible to know what route they take but departures from platforms 1 & 2 must use line 727. Indicated use by the Peron sheets recommenced on 26 April 2015 and continues into 2017.

SX R 50702 06:07 Tczew – Chojnice
SX TLK 58108 Gdynia Główna - 16:48 Tczew – Gorzów Wielkopolski

German sources suggest the following inbound services also use Line 727, the 17:09 and 20:07 from Chojnice to Tczew arriving 18:44 [Daily] and 21:38 [SX] so any reports would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Szlachta

[429, 424] (ERA171C1, too detailed to be shown, B6) PL17/75

Most but not all Czerk – Wierzchuchin services double run to Śliwice so use a connection to/from line 743 and Table 424 at Lipowa Tucholska at the south end of Szlachta station so there is limited use of the connection at the north end. Note one southbound service has twenty six PDF entries on different operating days.......

Gdańsk Wrzeszcz

[442,443] (ERA172B4, R2 not shown) PL17/76

A flyover has been built as part of the reinstated junction for the new service to Gdańsk Port Lotniczy and Kartuzy which is used by the limited through services from Gdańsk Główny but also by many of the terminators. Check the platform sheets for Peron II arrivals and departures.

Gdynia Stocznia

[450/451 & 452] (ERA172B4 not shown, R2) PL17/77

The SKM local and main lines take separate routes with Gdynia Stocznia station on an elevated section flying over freight lines leading into the docks.

Gdynia Główny – Rumia via line 202

[450/451] (ERA172B4 not shown, R2) PL17/78

This is an alternative route, largely parallel to the normal passenger line 250, but using a diveunder between Gdynia Glówna and Gdynia Grabówek and a separate alignment for part of the route on the north side of the line between Gdynia Cisowa and Rumia Janowo. It seems to be used mainly by seasonal trains to/from Hel starting/finishing in the higher numbered platforms at Gdynia Glówna, but there are crossovers allowing access to/from the lower numbered platforms so what train is booked to use this route cannot be listed. Reports of use would be welcomed by the Compiliers. Diagrams of the relevant parts of the route are available here:

Żuławskiej Kolei Dojazdowej

[457] (ERA172B3, A7 not shown correctly) PL17/79

This system worked by the Pomorskie Towarzystwo Miłośników Kolei Żelaznych (PTMKŻ) is a preserved ex PKP narrow gauge line from Nowy Dwor Gdanski to Sztutowo and Prawy Brzeg Wisły.

Stegna Gdanska

This is a triangular station with platforms on all three sides. For the first time since 2013 there are services scheduled to use the south to east curve towards Sztutowo but only on 13/14 May 2017. Operating days on the rest of the system are at weekends and bank Holidays from 29 April to 2 September 2017 as per the Timetable linked from the PTMKŻ website.

Sztutowo

If travelling to/from Sztutowo on either a loco hauled train or a railcar towing trailers it will reverse around a triangle on arrival or departure from Sztutowo as there is no run round loop.

Suwałki

[537] (ERA174A2 not shown correctly, B12) PL17/80

When the southbound afternoon loco hauled Sestokai/Mockava to Warsaw service ran and called at Suwałki for passengers to alight it then continued 0.5km into a headshunt to reverse its coaches onto others already waiting on another platform. To date only the through DMU Kaunas - Bialystok service has resumed north of Suwalki so this headshunt sees no current passenger use.

Wrzosów (p.odg. Stojadła) – p.odg. Kędzierak - Pilawa

[550/613] (ERA178B2, D10&E10) PL17/81

Part of a ring freight route round the east side of Warszawa, this north-to-south line provides a link between the Lublin and Terespol lines, and is used as the main route for fast trains between Warsawa Wschodnia and Pilawa due to capacity limitations on the single track line via Otwock. Trains are marked with a wavy line on table 550 at Otwock.

Dęblin – Stawy

[553] (ERA178C1, E11) PL17/82

There are two passenger routes from Stawy, which connect the Łuków line to the north and south ends of Dęblin station, forming a balloon loop and only the line at the north end line is shown in the Quail map. The normal mode of operation is for trains from Łuków to Dęblin to arrive at Dęblin using the southern route, even if they are continuing south and need to reverse in order to do so. Trains from Dęblin to Łuków use the northern route.

Chełm - Włodawa

[558] (ERA185B5/C5, E13/F13) PL17/83

This otherwise freight only branch has had a sponsored summer weekend only service in recent years. No 2017 timings were listed in the annual PDF issued in December 2016, but they ran as table 558 SSuO between 25 June and 3 September in 2016.

(Koluszki –) Bedoń – Łódź Widzew or Łódź Olechów – Łódź Chojny (– Łódź Kaliska)

[601] (ERA177B1, R11) PL17/84

There are two routes between Bedoń and Łódź Chojny: a northerly route via Łódź Widzew and a more direct southerly route via Łódź Olechów. Services running via Łódź Olechów could be identified in the table 601 PDF by either a footnote advising of a call at Łódź Olechów Wschód or a < marker against Łódź Widzew and timing at Łódź Chojny and/or Łódź Kaliska but there are none in 2017.

Lodz Kaliska avoiding line 539

[601/200 B110] (ERA177B2, R11) PL17/85

Regular use recommenced on 1 September 2015 by roughly 2 hourly through Warszawa – Wrocław TLK’s and use continues in 2017

Gałkówek – Żakowice Połdniowe – p.odg. Zieleń – Koluszki

[601, 114] (ERA177C1, R11) PL17/86

All Łodz and Koluszki services in 2017 are scheduled to run direct on the main line from Gałkówek via Żakowice station to the west side platforms at Koluszki. Any trains via this alternative route called at Żakowice Południowe instead and use part of line 537 and 535 to cross over the Częstochowa main line to/from the east side platforms at Koluszki. They were identified previously either by a * against Żakowice, a Timetable footnote or by partial entries in the PDF Table 114 but there are none in 2017. Żakowice Pułodnowie has an on-line Peron sheet but all services listed call at Słotwiny on Table 114 as per entry PL17/11 so use of line 535 appears to have ended on 15 October 2015.

A diagram is available here:

Ustanówek (p.odg. Czachówek Płd Czp11) – Czachówek Wschodni

[604, 605] (ERA174B3, E10) PL17/89

This north <=> east curve connects the Warszawa to Radom line with the southern freight ring and is used by services running direct to Góra Kalwaria from Warszawa which can be identified from table 604 by a '<' against Czachówek Południowy.

Czachówek Południowy – Czachówek Wschodni

[604, 605] (ERA174B3, E10) PL17/90

This south <=> east curve connects the Warszawa to Radom line with the southern freight ring and use can be identified by some services between Warszawa and Góra Kalwaria running via and with a timing at Czachówek Południowy where they reverse. Note that until 12 March 2017 all such services are provided by a Bus.

(Warszawa Gdańska –) Warszawa Zoo (p.odg. Jagiellonka) – p.odg. W-wa Targówek – p.odg. W-wa Michałów – Warszawa Rembertow

[608, 613, KM2] (ERA174B5, not correctly shown, R6, R8) PL17/91

The west <=> east curve east of Warszawa Zoo consists of a very large grade separated junction and between p.odg. W-wa Michałów and Warszawa Rembertow this route take totally different alignments east and westbound. One westbound Woodstock service was booked to use this route in 2016.

Warszawa Gdańska – Warszawa Jelonki – Line 507 - Warszawa Gołąbki - (Sochaszew]

[606,300] (ERA174 B4 not correctly shown, R5) PL17/92

The short connecting line 507 towards Sochaszew splits to run either side of a flyover on the main passenger route east of Warszawa Gołąbki. Use by three SSuX services recommenced on 24 June 2016 but are withdrawn again for 2017. Note this route is 95% duplicated by PL17/93 which was in use by diverted trains from 27 May to 11 June 2016.

Warszawa Gdańska – Warszawa Jelonki – Warszawa Gołąbki – Piastów (podg Jozefinów)

[606,300,100] (ERA174B4, R5) PL17/93

No use in 2017 following a number of IC trains diverted via this route to call at Warszawa Gdańska instead of Warszawa Centralna between 27 May and 11 June 2016.

Chotomów – curve 511 - Legionowo Piaski – (Tłuszcz)

[609, 608] (ERA174B5, D9) PL17/94

After odd day use in 2015 and one short notice train via this curve in May 2016, there is regular use in 2017 as the limited through Sierpc to Tłuszcz services no longer double run to Warszawa Gdańska.

KM 51701 Sierpc - 12:55 Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki - Tłuszcz
KM 51703 Sierpc - 20:22 Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki - Tłuszcz
KM 15700 Tłuszcz - 14:43 Legionowo Piaski – Sierpc

Warszawa Wschodnia – Warszawa Wschodnia Towarowa – p.odg. Warszawa Antoninów – Warszawa Goclawek – Warszawa Wawer

[614] (ERA174B5, R6, R8) PL17/95

Alternative route between Warszawa Wschodnia and Warszawa Goclawek used by TLK trains booked via Otwock with a > against Warszawa Olszynka Grochowska. There are none in 2017. Note the routes split at Warszawa Rembertow with the inbound as a separate track until Warszawa Wschodnia approaches.

The following sections of line within Poland can be ridden only in the through (corridor) trains of neighbouring administrations:

  • (Hagenwerder [Germany] -) frontier - Ręcszyn - (- Krzewina Zgorzelecka -) Trzciniec Zgorzelecki - frontier (- Hirschfelde [Germany]) (36A2): DB table 220. The section between Ręcszyn and Trzciniec Zgorzelecki is traversed only by trains on DB table 220 (Zittau - Görlitz, presently operated by Connex/Lausitzbahn) as PKP trains on table 260 were withdrawn with the 2000/01 timetable.
  • (Zittau [Germany] -) frontier - frontier (- Hrádek nad Nisou [Czech Republic]) (36A2): ČD table 089. There are no stations in Poland on this line.
  • Głuchołazy - frontier (- Jindřichov ve Slezsku [Czech Republic]) (37A1): Through Krnov – Jesenik trains on ČD table 292 use PKP tracks in and out of Głuchołazy as there is no triangle here and the approximately 13km of PKP tracks east of Głuchołazy are only traversed by ČD services. From 10 December 2006 ČD services call to set down and pick up at Głuchołazy.
