Introduction

These entries are for the timetable period from 10 December 2023 to 14 December 2024. Standard abbreviations are explained here.

It should be noted the timetable is completely reissued four times a year, these "adjustments" are due on 10 March, 9 June, 1 September and 10 November 2024. Even so travellers are strongly advised to check the Journey Planner and PDFs for ALL Unusual lines timings as revised PDFs are issued weekly in-between those dates with their issue date in small font at the bottom left of each page.

Trains numbers can change en route, i.e. IC 26100 to 26101 and the entries below attempt to show the train number for the section being highlighted. Even the PKP Journey Planner advises "Be careful, the train number may change on the route and does not necessarily coincide with the number on your ticket!"...

A number of one off specials were included in the full year PDFs in 2016, mainly excursions run by Turkol but nothing similar had happened again until 2024 when a few trains for Pilgrim's to Czestochowa appeared. Turkol still run frequent Tours, many including freight only track [which will not be EGTRE Unusual Line entries] so anyone interested is strongly advised to become familiar with the Turkol website. Recent examples have included trips around Katowice, Gdansk and Gdynia Docks.

There are no longer timetable shown special services via unusual routes to Kostrzyn for the Woodstock Music Festival (Przystanek Woodstock) which was the largest Free annual music festival in Europe. It has morphed into Pol'and'Rock held in early August at an airfield just north of Szczecinek served only by additional and strengthened local services.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA-E" refer to the European Railway Atlas (All-Europe Edition) by M.G. Ball. References prefixed "ERA-R" refer to the European Railway Atlas (Regional Series: Book 3) by M.G. Ball. References in italic are to Mały Atlas Linii Kolejowych Polski 2022 by M. Stiasny.

Obscure Services

Now all of Poland is on one Wiki page, please use CTRL F to find geographic locations or key words. This does not require accents.

Białystok area

Białystok - Białystok Zielone Wzgórza - Białystok Starosielce

[535] (ERA-E 76B2; ERA-R 179B; C12/R4) PL24/1

There are two single track routes from Białystok to Białystok Starosielce,

  • Option [A] the short curve [line 38] previously used by passenger services in both directions, and
  • Option [B] a long curve [line 515] initially following table 543 towards Bielsk Podlaski before curving away north over the Warszawa main line.

The longer curve [B] was upgraded, with all passenger services in both directions using it from 29 January 2023 as the short curve was engineering work closed. Then a new station named Białystok Zielone Wzgórza opened on 3 September 2023 situated right at the Białystok Starosielce/Bielsk Podlaski line split. This has four platform faces, two on the Warszawa main line, plus one each on tracks leading to the short or long curves, but after the short curve [A] re-opened on 10 December 2023, the station Peron sheets confirmed these curves are not being used as a grade separated junction as there is scheduled use of the long curve outbound from Białystok and short curve inbound from Ełk and this pattern continues in the March 2024 timetable updates

Therefore to find the scheduled route, check the Białystok Zielone Wzgórza Peron sheets as any service booked to call at Białystok Zielone Wzgórza Peron 1 track 1 must use the short curve [A] and Peron 2 track 3 the long curve [B].

Białystok Peron 4 - Line 556 - Białystok Zielone Wzgórza peron 2 track 3 OR Bielsk Podlaski line

[535] (ERA-E 76B2; ERA-R 179B; C12/R4) PL24/2

Line 556 runs from the south east side of Białystok station through the middle of the freight yards to Białystok Zielone Wzgórza. This is a new 2023/24 option during the ongoing reconstruction of Białystok station, and travel via this route was confirmed from a January 2024 report on 15103.

Map view shows use of this route continuing into the March timetable period for all services booked to arrive or depart from Peron 4 at Białystok, and suggesting at least two trains continue to use it throughout the 2023-2024 timetable. Check the Białystok Peron sheets.

Bydgoszcz area

Bydgoszcz Wschód - line 201 - Nowa Wies Wielka - [Inowrocław]

[430] (ERA-E 75A2; ERA-R 176C5; R3/C6) PL24/3

One train all year use continues in 2024 which commenced in December 2022. Route as shown in map view and confirmed in 2023 by a report. Previously scheduled on one night by one train in 2017.

35151/45151 Bielsko Biala Główna - 23:12/23:17 Inowrocław - Bydgoszcz Główna

Bydgoszcz Główna

[425] (ERA-E 75A2, not shown; ERA-R 176C5; R3) PL24/4

The station building splits the lines to Inowrocław and Piła and at the west end it is possible to arrive or depart from the "wrong" side using connections:-

[A] is a 200m link only possible between platform IV and the Piła line, or
[B] from platforms I - III to/from the Inowrocław line via a 350m connection into, and 750m across a yard throat and parallel to the main line.

[A] Use shown in the December 2023 Peron sheets by the 06:04 arrival from Piła Główna and 06:36 to Wyrzysk Osiek, both SSuX 11 - 22 December 2023. Note the Mały Atlas shows an 800m long line 745 from the west end of the option [A] goods yard curving underneath the Inowrocław main line to line 425, but this would require running through the complete length of the goods yard so is unlikely to be used by passenger services.

[B] The December 2023 Peron sheets show departures at 04:54, 07:07, 11:09 and arrivals at 07:22 and 08:34, use confirmed in the Journey Planner map view, albeit from a travellers 2017 experience this is plotted further south than the route taken...

Check the Peron sheets for up to date details.

Chabowka and Sucha Beskidzka (on the Kraków to Zakopane line)

Sucha Beskidzka

[135] (ERA-E 78B2; ERA-R 185B5; G8) PL24/5

All services between Kraków and Zakopane had to reverse at Sucha Beskidzka until an avoiding curve opened on 11 June 2017. Since then most Zakopane trains run via the avoiding line, calling at a new station called Sucha Beskidzka Zamek. Use of the relevant North to West and South to West curves can be identified by appropriate services calling at Sucha Beskidzka.

Chabówka – Rabka Zdrój – Nowy Sącz

[136] (ERA-E 78C2; ERA-R 185C5-186A5; H8/9) PL24/6

Most of this line is due to be modernised and become/replaced by the under construction high speed line from Podłęze near Kraków to Zakopane and Nowy Sącz which will join its formation at a triangular junction.

  • The Voivodship through Małopolskie Szlaki Turystyki Kolejowej have in previous years organised limited specials covering the complete ex passenger line worked by diesel SM42-1031 website here but the 2023 details did not appear until July, all ran from Nowy Sącz and none were to/from Chabówka. As the 135 all year PDF shows all PKP services from Chabówka – Rabka Zdrój are bustituted throughout 2023/24 it is reasonable to assume any 2024 specials would be the same.
  • Previously additional steam specials were run by The Chabówka Museum but in 2023 they ran between Chabówka and Osielec on the Kraków main line. A Gen post implied passengers were being carried to/from the Skansen so whether their website remark saying "passengers getting on or off the train at the Skansen in Chabówka are obliged to buy an entrance ticket in accordance with the price list. If you are not interested in accessing the Skansen, please go to the Chabówka railway station where all retro trains also stop." still applies is not known as a 2022 traveller on a MSTK special advised no travel into the Skansen was allowed.

Chabówka and the new avoiding line

[135] (ERA-E 78C2; ERA-R 186A5; H8) PL24/7

A newly constructed north to south avoiding curve opened on 22 December 2023, with trains using it calling at a new Chabówka Stadion station to the south of the curve. Some services still run in and out of Chabówka using the north to east and east to south curves with a reversal [but not one stop further to Rabka Zdrój as this is shown bus replaced for all of 2023/24]. Services using the avoiding curve show a < at Chabówka and Rabka Zdrój.

Chełm area

Chełm – Dorohusk – Jagodin (Ukraine)

[550/M401] (ERA-E 79C54; ERA-R 184C5; F13) PL24/8

Two parallel unelectrified lines cross the Poland/Ukraine border here, standard gauge (1435mm) and broad gauge (1520mm). Both have scheduled passenger services as at December 2023.

Standard gauge line to Ukraine

Used by the Warszawa – Kiev (and v.v.) overnight train pair on the 1435mm gauge tracks to/from Jagodin where gauge changing takes place by means of bogie exchange. PKP diesel traction is needed for the short cross-border journey from Dorohusk.

Note this is the only standard gauge passenger service east of Chełm meaning Dorohusk had no service during its Covid suspension until 15 September 2021. Due to westbound punctuality issues, from a date in Spring 2022 the Kiev - Warszawa has run separate from a Dorohusk - Warszawa service run to the quoted timings.

Broad gauge line to Ukraine

Before the war, after no service for many years, a daytime pair using Ukrainian DMUs commenced running through to Chełm on 12 June 2017, initially successful and increased to two pairs, subsequently reduced to one in December 2018. Then allegedly due to a Customs dispute with the Polish Authorities concerning fuel duty this pair only ran cross border to Dorohusk [with a bus to/from Chełm] from 9 June 2019, but even this service was withdrawn after running on the 18 June 2019.

In use by Ukrainian refugee services from February 2022, then by a pair of scheduled services from 4/5 May 2022, with additional services added later.
The broad gauge services are not shown in the 550 PDF but are included in the PKP Journey Planner and on the Chelm Platform sheets.

Chełm - Włodawa

[558] (ERA-E 79C4-C5; ERA-R 185B5-C5; E13/F13) PL24/9

This otherwise freight only branch has had a sponsored summer weekend only service in recent years and it is usual for a PDF to appear later in the year, as once again it is not showing in those issued in December 2023. There were two train pairs SSuO from 24 June until 27 August in 2023. Note an approved kolej+ re-opening bid will mean replacement of the currently used last 10km by a new alignment north of Okuninka Białe via Okuninka to a new station at Włodawa Miasto as the current Włodawa station is 4km from the town centre. A construction start is planned for 2027.

CMK connections (Centralna Magistrala Kolejowa connections off the Warszawa to Katowice/Kraków high speed line)

Koniecpol – Kozłów (p.odg. Starzyny)

[107, 109] (ERA-E 78B4; ERA-R 182C3; F8) PL24/10

Used by services included in Table 109 with a timing at Częstochowa/Częstochowa Stradom and Kraków not running via Kielce. This 11 km line reopened in the 2012 timetable and since 2017 has seen increased use when regular services via Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice to Jaworzno Szczakowa ended.

[Częstochowa –] Żelisławice – Włoszczowa Północ [– Warszawa]

[100/109/P200/175] (ERA-E 78C4; ERA-R 183C3; F8) PL24/11

This 7.7 km west to north link between the Częstochowa - Kielce line and the CMK is used by EIC Pendolinos and IC's between Warszawa Zachodnia and Częstochowa most easily identified in 109 by a | at Żelisławice, plus from 11 June 2023 by PR services to/from Włoszczowa Północ.

[Kielce –] Czarnca – Włoszczowa Północ [– Częstochowa]

[109] (ERA-E 78C4; ERA-R 183C3; F8) PL24/12

This newly constructed 3.3km curve [line 582] opened on 11 December 2022 but only came into passenger use from 11 June 2023 by a limited service. From the 3 September 2023 timetable change all local services either run Kielce - Włoszczowa Północ [reverse] - Częstochowa, or terminate there using either this curve or PL24/11.

[Kielce –] Czarnca – Zelislawice [– Częstochowa]

[109] (ERA-E 78C4; ERA-R 183C3; F8) PL24/13

A consequence of the new east to north curve to the CMK opening is from 3 September 2023, use of the 6.7km section of the east - west main line by services NOT calling at Włoszczowa Północ has dropped to two pairs daily. These can be identified in the 109 PDF by timings at Kielce and a Częstochowa station and a < at Włoszczowa Północ.

Psary – p.odg. Starzyny – Kozłów

[100] (ERA-E 78B4-C4; ERA-R 182C3; F8) PL24/14

This north - southeast link with the Koniecpol - Kozłów line is used by all trains using the CMK between Warszawa and Kraków with a vertical bar '|' against Kozłów.

Czarnca – Psary (p.odg. Knapówka)

[100, 109] (ERA-E 78C4; ERA-R 182C3; F8) PL24/15

This 3.8 km east - south link with the Kielce - Częstochowa line is used by services marked in table 109 with a '<' at all stations between Żelisławice and Częstochowa plus a timing at Katowice.

PolRegio withdrew their semi-fast R Kielce - Katowice services so in 2022/23 there are two pairs daily via this curve which despite using the CMK do not appear in table 100.

(Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Dęba Opoczyńska –) p.odg. Zapowiedź – Idzikowice

[100,113,114] (ERA-E 78C5; ERA-R 183A5; E9) PL24/16

Shared as far as p.odg. Zapowiedź with table 113, the TLK services shown in Tables 113 or 114 with stops at Opoczno Południe are the only services covering the 4.5 km west to south curve to/from the CMK.

Coal Trunk Line (Magistrala węglowa) From Herby Nowe to Zduńska Wola Karsznice and Inowrocław, with connecting routes and curves

The Magistrala węglowa (Coal Trunk Line) is a major south - north freight artery which, for EGTRE purposes, can be considered as running from Herby Nowe through Zduńska Wola Karznice to Inowrocław. The 258 km route was table 315 in the PKP timetable, but its local passenger service ended many years ago and since then a table has appeared intermittently. In recent years, of the entries in it very few with the exception of the Warszawa - Inowrocław Rąbinek - Poznan pair actually use "315", as seasonal and part line diversionary use were not included. So with PKP announcing on issuing the 2023/24 timetable that all seasonal services using this line were to be diverted via other routes, it was unexpected that a one weekend Pilgrim Special pair appeared in 315!

There are numerous curves and connections with the Coal Trunk Line, some used frequently, others much less so or not for many years. For this reason a route-based approach has been taken with every connection or section given a number in the schematic diagram below. These are then quoted in the headings of each entry to allow easy identification of sections in use.

To assist travellers, the individual sections in scheduled use in the CURRENT timetable period will be listed here, along with their PL24/xx number. From 10 March 2024 they are:-

  • 13 PL24/25 Klodawa - Ponętów north
  • 15 PL24/25 p.odg. Borysławice - Inowrocław Rąbinek
  • 16 PL24/25 Inowrocław Rąbinek - Mogilno

Timings are given from the last point before travel on any part of the Coal Trunk Line.

Herby Nowe – Chorzew Siemkowice – Zduńska Wola Karznice – Ponętów – p.odg. Borysławice – Inowrocław Rabinek (– Inowrocław) 1,3,6,9,12,15,17

[180, 430, via 315] (ERA-E 75A2-B3/78B4-B5; ERA-R 182A3-177A4; F7,E7,D7) PL24/17

This is the entry primarily identifying a traversal of the south end of the Coal Trunk Line. The north and south-bound routes run up to 1km apart just north of Herby Nowe, with the southbound track crossing over Line 181 (Table 322) on a flyover. Note these are also booked via curve 702 to/from Częstochowa Stradom.
No scheduled use in 2023/24, the last time between 23 June - 1 July 2023 by an overnight Hel/Łeba - Bohumin [ČD] train pair.

[Częstochowa -] Częstochowa Aniołow (p.odg. Wyczerpy) – Chorzew Siemkowice - Zdunska Wola Karznice - Ponętów - p.odg. Borysławice - Inowrocław Rąbinek - Podg. Mimowola - Inowrocław. 2,3,6,9,12,15,18

[102, 173, 315] (ERA-E 78A4; ERA-R 182B4; F7) PL24/18

This entry duplicates PL24/19 except for use of a different curve near Inowrocław.

No scheduled use of code 18 curve in 2023/24. See PL24/19 for any use of the remainder.

[Częstochowa -] Częstochowa Aniołow (p.odg. Wyczerpy) – Chorzew Siemkowice - Zdunska Wola Karznice - p.odg Dionizów - Ponętów - p.odg. Borysławice - Inowrocław Rąbinek - line 742 - Inowrocław 2,3,6,9,12,15,17

[102, 173, 315] (ERA-E 78A4; ERA-R 182B4; F7) PL24/19

The summer Bohumin [ČD] - Hel/Łeba pair from recent years have been re-routed leaving use in 2024 by just one pair of one weekend Pilgrim specials.

Note that the northbound and southbound tracks from the grade separated junction at podg Wyczerpy, north of Częstochowa run on significantly different vertical alignments and remain separate for 3 km as far as Rząsawa and this pair are booked via code 17, the short east side curve between Inowrocław and Inowrocław Rąbinek. Inowrocław.

(Łódź –) p.odg Gajewniki – p.odg Dionizów – Ponętów – Barlogi (– Poznań) 7,9,11

[315/300] (ERA-E 75B1; ERA-R 177A2; D7) PL24/21

No service in 2023/24, last use was dates between 12 March and 21 June 2023. This combination is the east to north curve at Zdunska Wola, the Coal trunk Line and the south to west curve at Ponętów to the Warszawa - Poznań line.

[102, 173, 315] (ERA-E 78A4; ERA-R 182B4; F7) PL24/23

No booked use of this combination in 2023/24 which is from/to Łódź via the Zdunska Wola East to North curve, a northern section of the Coal Trunk Line and the long curve via Podg. Mimowola of line 131 [code 18] from Inowrocław, the rarer of the two. Map view showed one service from 26 June to 1 September and another from 29 August to 6 November 2021 booked via code 18, curve 131 but from reports received its use was subject to punctuality issues, the first did not when late, and the second did curve 131 [code 18] for two travellers but not for another, all when on time. Additionally a traveller advised a previous years successful travel over line 131 avoided a conflict with a train heading for Poznań so use may also be subject to punctuality of a different service. If they do not take code 18 they use line 742 [code 17] instead.

Czechowice Dziedzice area, including Chybie

Czechowice Dziedzice avoiding line: Goczałkowice Zdrój (p.odg. Most Wisła) – Zabrzeg (p.odg. Ochodza)

[146, 147] (ERA-E 77B1; ERA-R 188C3; H7) PL24/28

The north-to-west curve avoiding Czechowice Dziedzice is used by all trains between Goczałkowice and Zabrzeg in table 146 and those to and from Katowice in table 147 with a '<' symbol against Czechowice Dziedzice.

This curve has been vertically and horizontally re-aligned in 2021 with the north end junction to/from Czechowice Dziedzice relocated further north. The changes are clearly illustrated on OpenRailwayMap.

Czechowice-Dziedzice (p.odg Ochodza)- via Zabrzeg Czarnolesie Goods line 693 to (p.odg Bronów) - Chybie

[146/147] (ERA-E 77B1, not shown; ERA-R 182A1; H7) PL24/29

The 147 PDF shows all westbound services towards Chybie with < markers at Zabrzeg and Zabrzeg Czarnolesie meaning diversion via this 4km route from 10 March - 14 December 2024. Map view confirms this, as it does for all Katowice towards Skoczów services on 146 and plots then taking the same nearest the main line option on the south side of Zabrzeg Czarnolesie goods yard as the previous passenger use from March 2020 until 13 March 2021 but confirmation of this would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Chybie – Chybie Mnich (p.odg Bieniowiec) (– Skoczów)

[146/146a] (ERA-E 78B2; ERA-R 182A1; H7) PL24/30

Żory – Chybie

[146a/154] (ERA-E 77A1; ERA-R 188C2; G6-H7) PL24/31

Thanks to re-opening of intermediate stations in advance of a pending kolej+ scheme table 146a has re-appeared even though they only see calls by two pairs SSuO.

There is additional use by non-stop TLK's that are not shown in 146a which can be identified in table 154 by < markers between Żory and Czechowice-Dziedzice, or table 151 with > markers between Wroclaw Glowny and Czechowice-Dziedzice en route to/from Bielsko-Biala.

Czerwieńsk

(Sulechów-) podg Czerwieńsk Wsch. – Czerwieńsk – podg Czerwieńsk Płd. (-Przylep)

[334, 355] (ERA-E 74B1; ERA-R 175B2 E2 partially shown) PL24/32

Use resumed on 12 March 2023 after an engineering work closure since 16 March 2020. Following opening of the south <=> east avoiding curve (podg Czerwieńsk Południe - podg Czerwieńsk Wschodnia) on 9 June 2013. this entry indicates use of the old line from the east junction to/from Czerwieńsk station. These services cross underneath the Zielona Góra line to the south side of the two-sided Czerwieńsk station, then also use a significant connection to/from the Zielona Góra line at the east end of Czerwieńsk station, explaining why the timings towards Gorzów Wielkopolski are shown from Zielona Góra Przylep and not Czerwieńsk.

Click on the thumbnail for a diagram:

78571/0 Zielona Góra Główna - 15:57 Zielona Góra Przylep - Gorzów Wielkopolski
78573/2 Zielona Góra Główna - 18:37 Zielona Góra Przylep - Gorzów Wielkopolski
70521/0 Zbąszynek - 05:40 Sulechów - Zielona Góra Główna
87568/9 Gorzów Wielkopolski – 17:45 Sulechów - Zielona Góra Główna

With recent re-instatement of the Zielona Góra - Czerwieńsk - Guben [DB] service there may be increased use of the connection to/from the Zielona Góra line at the east end of Czerwieńsk station. This would only be possible going via Peron 3 Track 4 as used by the above services but the Peron sheets since have shown all Guben [DB] services scheduled to use Peron 1 or 2. Any reports of additional use would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Częstochowa Area

Częstochowa (Częstochowa Towarowa) – line 703 – podg Kucelinka – line 155 - Poraj

[102] (ERA-E 78B4; ERA-R 182B3; F7 R15) PL24/33

No scheduled use in 2023/24. This entry is part duplicated by an alternative route between Częstochowa Stradom and Poraj, see PL24/35.

What appears to be a grade separated junction for the Częstochowa - Koniecpol line is actually separate routes as line 701 on the east side is used by Koniecpol passenger services in both directions. The west side line relevant to this entry is freight Line 703 that diverges at the north end of Częstochowa Towarowa (marshalling yard) to run on the far west side of this yard through Częstochowa Raków Platform 1 Track 5 [no calls in Dec-23 Peron sheets] before climbing to go over the Katowice main line to podg Kucelinka. Here it joins the passenger route from Częstochowa Stradom to Koniecpol and also where Line 155 to Poraj diverges [see also PL24/35 Option [A]]. Note there is no connection between line 701 on the east side and line 155 to Poraj at podg Kucelinka.

[Częstochowa -] Częstochowa Towarowa – line 703 via Częstochowa Raków - podg Kucelinka [- Koniecpol]

[109] (ERA-E 78B4; ERA-R 182B3; F7 R15) PL24/34

No known scheduled use of this combination in 2023/24 as without time consuming searches of map view it is now impossible to identify non-stop services as a permanent platform 1 Track 85 opened on goods line 703 at Częstochowa Raków from late in 2022. Since then any non-stop services show |, the identical marker to the normal route so only local services calling at platform 1 Track 85 to/from Koniecpol are guaranteed to use this entry but there are none in the 2023/24 Peron sheets issued in March 2024.

This new partial version of PL24/33 was necessary for a service using this route from 23 - 27 June 2022 [and allegedly also on 16-17 April 2023] with map view showing they diverted from Częstochowa Towarowa onto freight only line 703 on the west side of the main line over the Katowice main line to podg Kucelinka.

Częstochowa Stradom via Częstochowa Raków and/or podg Kucelinka & line 155 - Poraj

[102/175] (ERA-E 78B4; ERA-R 182B3; F7 R15) PL24/35

There are three possible routes between Częstochowa Stradom and Poraj and two pair use of [B] continues into 2023/24. In order by known use:-

  • [A] From Częstochowa Stradom on the line to Koniecpol to/from podg Kucelinka and then via freight line 155, historically, but not since 2021 indicated by a '<' symbol in table 102 against Częstochowa Raków and Korwinów. When Częstochowa Stradom to Kraków services stopped running via Koniecpol this became the preferred route, but only until September 2022.
  • [B] From Częstochowa Stradom via curve 702 to the north end of Częstochowa Raków yard, then part of line 703 on the far west side and complete length of the yard to/from a connection with main line 102 to the south of Częstochowa Raków platform 1 Track 85. Use was scheduled for one train on one night in October 2020, then as a late alteration to the Autumn 2022 PDFs, all 4 pairs of Częstochowa Stradom to Kraków services were diverted from option [A] to [B] until two pairs changed to run via 109 and Koniecpol from 6 November 2022.
Note A KS40122 Częstochowa - 02:57 Częstochowa Stradom - option [B] - Tarnowskie Góry
73102 Poznań Główny - 09:15 Częstochowa Stradom - option [B] - Kraków Główny
73100 Poznań Główny - 19:06 Częstochowa Stradom - option [B] - Kraków Główny
37100 Kraków Główny - 08:43/08:49 Myszków option [B] - Poznań Główny
37102 Kraków Główny - 18:37/18:40 Myszków - option [B] - Poznań Główny

Note A: 18-20/26/27 January 2024

  • [C] Line 702 and then via entry PL24/33 above. As far as is known this combination has never been used by passenger diversions.

Note: A few services in both directions running direct between Częstochowa and Częstochowa Raków are shown diverted in map view via the part of line 703 on the far west side and complete length of the yard to/from a connection with main line 102 to the south of Częstochowa Raków platform 1 Track 85 between 23:18 and 03:52 on dates between 8 January and 9 March 2024.

Częstochowa avoiding line: Częstochowa Stradom – Kusięta Nowe (p.odg. Kucelinka) (– Koniecpol)

[109/175/P200] (ERA-E 78B4; ERA-R 182B3; R15) PL24/36

This line enables trains between Wrocław/Herby and Kielce, Częstochowa Stradom & Kraków via Koniecpol PL24/10 or Częstochowa Stradom & Warszawa (via the CMK) PL24/11 or via Poraj PL24/35 Option [A] avoid reversing at Częstochowa Osobowa (the main station) by calling instead at Częstochowa Stradom. Use can be identified by any of the above services having a < at Częstochowa in table 175.

Dęblin

Dęblin: Zajezierze k. Dęblina (p.odg. Wisła R2) – Zarzeka (p.odg. Wisła R1)

[111/550] (ERA-E 79A5; ERA-R 183C5; E10) PL24/37

This west-to-south curve avoiding Dęblin is used by direct services between Radom and Lublin which appear in table 111 with a '<' symbol against Dęblin.

Dęblin – Stawy

[553] (ERA-E 79A5; ERA-R 178C1; E11) PL24/38

There are two passenger routes approaching Dęblin from the Łuków line which connect to either the north or south ends of Dęblin station forming a balloon loop. The normal mode of operation for some years as confirmed by the Journey Planner map view is for trains from Łuków to Dęblin to arrive at Dęblin using the southern route, [even if they are continuing south and need to reverse in order to do so]. Trains from Dęblin to Łuków use the northern route.

Gdańsk area

Gdańsk Wrzeszcz

[442,443] (ERA-E 75B4, not shown; ERA-R 172B4; R2) PL24/39

There is a flyover as part of the reinstated junction for the newish services via Gdańsk Port Lotniczy which should be used by the through services from Gdańsk Główny. Note crossovers also allow use of the non-flyover route but any departure or arrival using Peron II is more likely to use the flyover.

Gdańsk Osowa – Rębiechowo

[440] (ERA-E 75A4; ERA-R 172B4; A6 not shown) PL24/40

The direct Gdynia Główna - Kościerzyna/Kartuzy service via this third side of the triangle is significantly less than services on the other two sides via the new line through Gdańsk Port Lotniczy.

Gdańsk Stadion Expo

[Ex 453] (ERA-E 75B4, not shown; ERA-R 172B4 not shown; R2) PL24/41

A 2km section of the long closed, now freight only line towards Gdańsk Nowy Port to a platform near the Stadium is used occasionally in connection with Football or special events. Last confirmed use was on 25 August 2023 with details published on the ZTM local transport Authority website. Note this station and any services do not appear in the PKP Journey Planner.

Gdynia area

Gdynia Główny – Rumia via line 202

[452] (ERA-E 75A5; ERA-R 172B4; R2) PL24/42

There are two routes between Gdynia Główna and Rumia. Line 250 from Gdynia Główna Platforms 1-2 is used mainly by SKM local services via Gdynia Stocznia-Uniwersytet Morski, Gdynia Chylonia Platform 1 and Gdynia Cisowa where it divides either side of Gdynia Cisowa Elektrowozownia EMU depot. The two single lines come back together at Rumia Janowo. Note the south side line at the Depot is bi-directional.

The alternative is line 202 from Gdynia Główna between platforms 3 and 4 (crossovers allow access from other platforms) which passes under and then alongside line 250 on non-platform tracks at Gdynia Chylonia after which it becomes single track and runs to the north side of Cisowa Elektrowozownia EMU depot parallel with 250 to bypass Rumia Janowo platforms. This single track is also believed to be bi-directional and note although largely parallel with line 250 there are significant divergences at the diveunder west of Gdynia Stocznia-Uniwersytet Morski and after Gdynia Cisowa.

The following operating pattern appears to have applied since the December 2021-22 PKP timetable update, with the numbers of exceptions reducing markedly from the 2022-23 timetable:

  • Line 250 is used by local services stopping all stations to Rumia. From Gdynia Główna to Gdynia Chylonia platform 1 is used only by local stopping services.
  • Line 202 is used by IC services and also local services that only call at Gdynia Chylonia and have no other intermediate stops between Gdynia Główna and Rumia.

Gdynia Główna approaches alternative: line 963

[452] (ERA-E 75A5, not shown; ERA-R 172B4 not shown; R2) PL24/43
There is a 1km single track line 963 to/from the higher numbered platforms at Gdynia Główna with pointwork allowing it to be used by both arrivals and departures to/from Rumia and identified by a < at only Gdynia Stocznia Universytet Morski. This routing avoids the flyover line 250 via Gdynia Stocznia-Uniwersytet Morski platforms or the parallel lines 202 and 960 which go underneath line 250 and was indicated against services running on just 9/10 September 2023, with the PKP Journey Planner Map view showing use of 963 in both directions. There are none with such a marking in the March 2024 PDF.

Additionally as the northern junction of line 963 with main line 250 is south of Gdynia Grabowek platforms, a report was received of TLK 402 19:00 Hel to Bohumin on 11 July 2023 [previous stop Puck 20:00 and via the west side of Gdynia Cisowa Depot and the main line south of Gdynia Chylonia] taking line 963 en route to P5 at Gdynia Główna so any additional reports of use of line 963 would be welcomed by the Compilers.

Diagrams of the relevant parts of the route are available here:

Gdynia Stocznia-Universytet Morski

[450/451 & 452] (ERA172B4 not shown, R2) PL24/44

The SKM local and main lines take separate routes with Gdynia Stocznia-Universytet Morski station on an elevated section flying over freight lines leading into the docks. Services in either direction calling at Gdynia Stocznia-Universytet Morski must use Gdynia Główna Peron 1.

Hajnówka area

Hajnówka station is a double "v".

Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Hajnówka

[541/543] (ERA179B4, D13) PL24/45

Most trains are through to/from the Lewki [- Białystok] line and use relocated platform IV on the west side [south of the previous demolished station building] and if to/from Czeremcha use a 370 metre south end connection. Others terminating or starting from Hajnówka to/from Czeremcha use platforms I & II on the east side and a separate 250 metre section.

There is also a new west side platform III at a distinct angle to platform IV used by a few arrivals/departures from/to Lewki so check the Peron sheets for ongoing platform use.

Herby Stare area

Herby Stare – Boronów (p.odg Kalina)

[175/180] (ERA-E 78B4; ERA-R 182A3; F7) PL24/46

This 2.2km east <=> south curve, [line 687] regained a local service in 2016. Use by an IC train pair ended 12 March 2022.

Lisów – Herby Stare

[175] (ERA-E 78B4, not shown; ERA-R 182A3; F7) PL24/48

The east and westbound tracks take significantly different routes through a forest between these points.

Iława

Iława alternative routes

[400/405/500] (ERA-E 75B3, not shown; ERA-R 172B1; B8) PL24/49

There are two routes between Iława station and Działdowo, the Malbork – Warszawa main line diving under the Toruń – Olsztyn line from the north side, plus Line 968, an inside curve to/from south side Peron III which also accesses a freight yard.

It is believed the track layout does not allow trains to/from Działdowo Peron III to reach the diveunder line so as trains from Iława Peron I & II can reach Line 968, only those using Peron III are guaranteed to use line 968. The usual route for through Malbork - Iława - Działdowo services is the diveunder to avoid conflicts so query the platform arrival/departure sheets for details of Peron III arrivals and departures from Działdowo. Feedback on specific services using line 968 would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Additionally all Olsztyn - Iława - Malbork services use connections at the Olsztyn end of the station to cross to the north side platforms. Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Jarocin

Jarocin north end connection and south end alternative routes

[321] (ERA-E 74C1, not shown; ERA-R 176B2, not shown; E5) PL24/50

Jarocin is a split station with a sizeable yard south of the platforms.

Option [B] Services to/from Września normally terminate or start from platform 3 [Track 256!] on the east side of Jarocin station, but if they use that platform to continue/arrive from Krotoszyn they will use a 1.6km link on the east side of a sizeable yard up to 150m away from the main lines to/from the junction with line 826. Last recorded use by one train on just 5 September 2022.

Note A SSuX KW 77251 Krotoszyn - 10:21 Golina - Gniezno
Note A SSuX KW 77248 Gniezno – 08:41 Jarocin - Krotoszyn

Note A: From 29 April 2024
The PDFs show re-opening of Krotoszyn – Jarocin after a lengthy engineering work closure on 28 April 2024 and then all through Poznań - Krotoszyn services must resume using connecting line 826 south of Jarocin station to/from west side platforms 1 & 2 so this is no longer considered an obscure route.

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Lanckorona

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Lanckorona south to west

[139] (ERA-E 78B2; ERA-R 182C1; H8) PL24/51

Use rapidly reduced after opening of the new north to west avoiding curve on 11 June 2023; by November 2023 to just one local train pair. From the 2023/24 timetable this curve is used only by seasonal services, an overnight pair from 22/23 December 2023 to 28/29 February 2024 or by a maximum of three pairs from 22 June - 1 September 2024. These can be identified by timings in table 139 at Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Lanckorona.

[101/140] (ERA-E 77B2; ERA-R 182B1-C1; R18) PL24/54

This entry has alternative routes and with no stations between Mysłówice and Dąbrowa Gornicza Ząbkowice the scheduled route can only be identified using the Journey Planner map view if they appear in 140 to/from Mysłówice. There is limited use from March 2024, all via option [B]. The route options are:-

  • [A] from Mysłówice via Sosnowiec Jęzor and Line 180 to podg Dorota. Note the flyover south of podg Dorota to line 180 shown in the 2011 Mały Atlas no longer exists so southbound services may be more likely.
  • [B] from Mysłówice via Sosnowiec Jęzor to podg Długoszyn (west of Jaworzno Szczakowa), curve 667 and Sosnowiec Maczki to podg Dorota

Note podg Dorota - part line 133 - Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice is also used by entries in PL24/52 & PL24/53.

Dąbrowa Gornicza Ząbkowice - Line 160 southbound or 186 both directions - Łazy – goods lines to Zawiercie

[101/102] (ERA-E 77B2-C2; ERA-R 188A5-B5; too detailed to be shown, G7 R18) PL24/55

Alternative routes, two of which can be identified by < markers between Łazy and Dąbrowa Górnicza Sikorka.

  • [A] Southbound via flyover route 160 to the southern end of 186 identified by < markers from Wiesiółka to Dąbrowa Górnicza Sikorka. Previous use between 13 June to 28 August and 7 November - 11 December 2021.
  • [B] Line 186 in both directions that splits to the east and out of sight of the main line between Chruszczobród and Wiesiółka
  • [C] via goods lines for 6km north from Łazy on the east side of the first, then in-between parts of two subsequent freight yards to south of Zawiercie

In Autumn 2020 travellers noticed new platforms on line 186 at Chruszczobród [Peron II] and Wiesiółka [Peron III] so use of Option [B] can now be identified from the Peron sheets by calls at both. Also note if a southbound service calls at any Wiesiółka platform it is then impossible to travel Option [A] via line 160.

When [B] was in use northbound during 2016 plus on 11 August 2017, mainline services continued via Option [C] to Zawiercie. However when scheduled again between August and December 2020 it is believed all northbound services re-joined the normal passenger route by at least Łazy, as would any currently timetabled option [B] local services. But as there are no stations between Łazy and Zawiercie it is impossible for the timetable to show services routed only or additionally via option [C] and map view must be used.

[102/179] (ERA-E 77B2-C2; ERA-R 188A5-B5; G7 R21) PL24/56
This pair is shown in the all year timetable as the only services using this curve as the regular Katowice Airport passenger service is to/from Częstochowa via the north to west curve to/from Zawiercie station. They are not shown in table 102 and note they also travel via the Bytom avoiding line EGTRE entry.

Sosnowiec Głowny - curve 62 – Sosnowiec Południowy

[105] (ERA-E 77B2; ERA-R 188A4-B4; R17) PL24/57

No use scheduled in 2023/24, last scheduled between 15 - 19 December 2022

Previously used by all T105 services for 1½ days in 2021, then in 2021/22 initially by four SSuX services reduced to two SSuX from June 2022, then to one service from September and none from 6 November 2022.

Katowice – flyover departure line – p.odg. Brynów (- Katowice Brynów)

[146, 151] (ERA-E 77B2; ERA-R 188B3; R17) PL24/58

Southbound departures from Katowice platforms 1-4 towards Katowice Ligota can run either via the main line (line 139) or via the 2km line 656 via a flyover over the main line to Gliwice and on the north side of an EMU Depot. From observation, all trains departing from Peron 1 at Katowice appear to use this route, with map view showing all departures from Peron 1 or 2 taking the flyover.

[220] (ERA-E 77A2-B2; ERA-R 188A2-B2-B3; R16/17) PL24/59

None scheduled in 2023/24 for this alternative route between Katowice and Gliwice, last scheduled between 12 November - 9 December 2023. The section in brackets was in summer 2023 use as per PL24/65.

Katowice - podg Gottwald - Line 713 - part line 164 - by-pass Chorzów Batory platforms - Zabrze

[101, 220] (ERA-E 77A2-B2; ERA-R 188A2; R17) PL24/60

Four services were shown in the December 2022 PDFs with a < at only Chorzów Batory, and in map view diverting as per the description, a grade separated parallel goods line avoiding all platforms at Chorzów Batory, connecting to/from the main line flyover routing to/from Zabrze west of the platforms. However the March 2023 PDFs showed all four running non-stop through the platforms on the normal main line so this diversion did not take place. The entry is retained as it contains a unique section not covered by other entries but will be deleted if not used during 2024.

Bytom temporary station

[166] (ERA-E 77B2 not shown); ERA-R 188A3; R19) PL24/62

Major works re-furbishing the station and western approach tracks mean from 13 September 2022 until [according to the journey planner] December 2024, the only passenger trains using the station are table 166 services to/from Gliwice. These use temporary platform 5 Track 22 on the south side of the west end freight yard near to the Narrow Gauge Railway platform and reach this via approximately 1km of unusual track from/to the normal passenger lines. The platform location is shown on OpenRailwayMap if you drill down to see track yard detail.

Tychy – line 169 – Orzesze Jaśkowice

[151/155] (ERA-E 77A1-B1; ERA-R 188B2-B3; G7) PL24/63

This line resumed use by non-stop, mainly international services in 2017. Use can be identified in 155 by < markers from Mikolów Jamna to Orzesze Jaśkowice.

(Rybnik –) Lesczczyny – Line 149 – Gierałtowice – podg Mizerów – Zabrze Makoszowy Kopalnia (– Gliwice)

[156] (ERA-E 77A1-A2; ERA-R 188A2-B2; G6, R20) PL24/64

See the PDF for the all year SSuO [increased to] two pairs and to note the journey planner map view also shows use by a not listed pair of summer overnights. These are 40170 departing Gliwice at 03:30 and 44170 departing Rybnik at 22:21 from 23 June - 2 September 2024. These appear to take the place of the previous summer overnight Bohumin [CD] - Świnoujście pair that used the south to east curve at Zabrze Makoszowy as per PL24/65 which are not running in 2024.

Approaching/leaving Gliwice these services use a reinstated south side connection part 141 to/from the ex Katowice main line and Gliwice Sośnica shown closed and lifted in the 2011 Mały Atlas but included in the 2022 edition.

(Rybnik – Lesczczyny – Line 149 – Gierałtowice –] podg Mizerów – Zabrze Makoszowy – line 141 - Ruda Kochłowice – line 164 - podg Hajduki - line 651 - podg Gottwald (– Katowice)

[155,156] (ERA-E 77A1-A2; ERA-R 188B2-B3; G6, R16/17) PL24/65

This entry is for any services using the west to east curve off/onto line 149 and freight track to/from Katowice and such a service ran between 23 June - 4 September 2023 as confirmed from the JP Map view. The complete entry is not scheduled in 2024 but a small part either side of podg Hajduki is, see PL24/67 and PL24/68.

A variation of PL24/65, the major difference being the south to west curve to/from Chorzów Batory [therefore not serving Katowice] used by a pair that ran only on 3 September 2023. An exact copy is not scheduled in 2024 but the unique curve is, see PL24/67 and PL24/68.

[140] (ERA-E 77A2-B2; ERA-R 188A2-B2-B3; R16/17) PL24/67

The 2023/24 timetable shows use of the curve from podg Hajduki to Chorzów Batory, then other sections of unusual track as an alternative route between Chorzów Batory and Mysłowice avoiding Katowice. This is 21km of normally freight only track.

Note unusually the JP map view also shows two variations between east and westbound journeys, eastbound from podg Katowice Janów via a section of 171 and the south side of Katowice Muchowiec yards, westbound on the north side and line 657 to podg Katowice Janów. OpenRailwayMap agrees on the 171/657 split, but suggests the southside option at Katowice Muchowiec is unlikely...

Rybnik – Sumina

[153/154/160] (ERA-E 77A1; ERA-R 188B1; G6, H6) PL24/69

There are two routes between Rybnik and Sumina: a direct line with no intermediate stations and a longer single track route via Rybnik Towarowy and Rydułtowy used by local services. Any local booked via the direct line is shown with a < in 153 but it has varied if non-stop TLK's appear in table 153, they do in 2024. If none are shown, those using the shorter direct route are in table 160 with timings to/from Wrocław Głowny, calls at Kędzierzyn-Koźle to/from Bielsko Biala.

To note services not booked to call at Sumina to/from the direct line may not always use tracks that avoid the station platforms.

Nędza Wieś – Kuźnia Raciborska (p.odg. Turze)

[153/160] (ERA-E 77A1; ERA-R 188B1; G6) PL24/70

This east-to-north chord avoiding Nędza station is used by trains running direct between Kędzierzyn Koźle and Rybnik. Use is indicated by < markers at stations from Nędza to Chałupki in Table 160. Note these services do not appear in table 153.

There are three routes between Kędzierzyn-Koźle and podg. Stare Koźle. From east to west they are:

1. Line 709. This is the normally used passenger route in both directions, a 4 km single track over the avoiding curve line 681 via a staff halt at the PKP depot to/from Peron (platform) I. See 2. & 3. for exceptions.

2. Line 151 (northbound). From a traveller's July 2017 observation, its 2023/24 equivalent as below is the only service booked via the northbound split of line 151 [not shown in the 2011, but is in the 2022 Mały Atlas], shown clearly in OpenRailwayMap. This initially heads east at podg. Stare Koźle, then underneath Lines 709 and 681 to run parallel to, but up to 30m apart of the southbound track of Line 151 as per point 3 below. Both tracks of 151 remain on the west side of the substantial yard and lead to/from only Kędzierzyn-Koźle Peron IV or the station avoiding lines.

IC4522 Racibórz - 04:27 Kuźnia Raciborska - Kędzierzyn-Koźle [reverse] - Gliwice - Białystok

3. Line 151 (southbound). This runs on the west side of the yard (Kędzierzyn-Koźle KKD) up to 0.5 km away from Line 709. The southern junction at podg. Stare Koźle is grade separated as per point 2 and note any service from Kędzierzyn-Koźle Peron IV towards Rybnik or Racibórz must use this route.

Check the Kędzierzyn-Koźle Platform sheets for the latest information on all three variants.

Kędzierzyn-Koźle avoiding curve

[160/220] (ERA-E 78A3; ERA-R 181C2; R14) PL24/72

Use continues in 2024 but is reduced to two pairs of international services which can be identified in T160 by a < at only Rybnik and Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Note this curve is significantly grade separated at the south end.

Kępno

(Domanin -) p.odg. Hanulin – line 812 - Kępno (low level) (– Wieluń)

[320/322] (ERA-E 78A5; ERA-R 181C5; F6) PL24/73

Kępno is a two-level station as the Poznań - Ostrów - Kluczbork line has high level platforms at right angles to those of the low-level Herby Nowe line. There are inside and outside north-to-east curves some km's apart connecting the two lines with all services starting or terminating at Kępno to/from Ostrów Wielkopolski using the 1.8km outside curve (Line 812) to/from the low-level platforms. These can be identified either in the station platform arrival/departure sheets using Peron II, or from the table 320 PDF showing Kępno separately in italics at the top or bottom of the table depending on direction.

One pair of IC's also use the outside curve (line 812) and to note these are the only services between Wieluń Dąbrowa and Kępno as shown in timetable 322. They also use the curve from Herby Nowe to Herby Stare, see PL24/47.

An inside curve to/from 322 bypasses all platforms and would be a separate entry when scheduled.

Kołobrzeg Port

[off 375] (ERA-E 74B4, not shown; ERA-R 170C3; B2) PL24/75

A 1km freight-only branch partly through city streets to terminate on the quayside adjacent to the lighthouse. The annual Poznań Główny - Kołobrzeg "Pirat" excursion, initially with steam resumed running to the Port some years ago, joined from 2012 by a separate Diesel hauled excursion "Katamaran" which has not run for the last few years. The 3 June 2023 "Pirat" reached the lighthouse with a diesel so the 2024 versions on 1, 2 & 22 and possibly 23 June 2024 should do likewise. See the Turkol website.

Kraków area

Kraków northern loop line: (Kraków Główny –) Kraków Batowice – podg Dłubnia – Kraków Nowa Huta – Podłęże

[120] (ERA-E 78B2-B3; ERA-R 171B5; R15) PL24/76

Even though a local service calling at Lubocza & Kraków Nowa Huta [new station on site of old PKP one, not the further east staff halts] resumed on 15 March 2020, [since significantly reduced] and limited IC diversions continue in 2023/24, an entry is still required as there are two alternative routes east of Nowa Huta and near Podłęże. Such services can be identified with a | at Kraków Nowa Huta plus "<" markers between Kraków Grzegórski and Węgrzce Wielkie.

The usual route in both directions had been the much longer single-track north side line outside the elevated freight only balloon loop, but after upgrading it would appear eastbound services now take a much shorter inside curve to podg Koscielniki. Reports received for 21 July 2023 and 1 August for train TLK30104 departing Kraków Główny at 12:34 [still running to same times in 2023/24] advised this shorter curve was taken plus the flyover option of the lengthy grade separated junction approaching Podłęże so it would appear this section is now being treated as a two track railway.

Both alternatives are line 95 variants as shown more clearly on Open Railway Map than the Mały Atlas Kraków insert so further reports of eastbound journeys would be appreciated by the Compilers to confirm this change.

Kraków Główny avoider: Kraków Płaszów via Kraków Olsza - line 100 - Kraków Bronowice

[120/120a/140] (ERA-E 78C3; ERA-R 182; R15) PL24/77

No scheduled use in 2023/24, last used for a two day period of limited diversions on 9/10 September 2023, eastbound only. A new PDF 120a was included for the first two periods of 2021/22 showing three trains running via or calling at Kraków Olsza to/from Kraków Płaszów but apart from re-appearing in the 4 September 2022 timetable showing no services, it has not been included since! A traveller westbound on KMŁ33478 via Kraków Olsza in March 2022 reported his service to Kraków Główny crossed to the passenger route west of Kraków Łobzów omitting the separate alignment of freight line 100 by-passing Kraków Bronowice platforms, then reversed in Kraków Mydlniki platforms releasing the doors although not booked to call.

Kraków Bronowice

[140/142] (ERA-E 78C3 not shown; ERA-R 182C1 not shown; G8) PL24/78

When the newish station was built at Kraków Bronowice as part of the western approach improvement works for Kraków Główny, it has platforms [Peron I and II] on the existing main line (table 140) and [Peron III and IV] on the previous high level goods line. Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Platforms III and IV are now used by Kraków Airport services (table 142) and new connections were built to/from Kraków Łobzów: (i) a new westbound track rising to link with the eastbound track of the western freight avoider (line 95) before it crosses over the main line; (ii) eastbound dropping down to run parallel with the main line all the way to Kraków Główny. This is known as line 118 in both directions and it should be noted that services have been known to use Peron III or IV in the opposite direction to that expected, so all journeys should be checked.

Note line 118 west from Kraków Bronowice is at a higher level than the main line as far as a connecting junction east of Kraków Mydlniki.

(Kraków Batowice –) podg Kraków Przedmieśie – Line 602 – Kraków Olsza – Line 100 – Kraków Plaszów

[107, Lines 100/602] (ERA-E 78C3; ERA-R 171A5, not shown; R15) PL24/79

No scheduled use in 2023/24, last used by one train on the night of 21/22 February 2023. This curve allows trains from the Kozłów line (table 107) avoid Kraków Główny and proceed directly to Kraków Płaszów. Enter 107 in the Search by Table section and look for trains with a < at Kraków Główny and a time at Kraków Plaszów.

Kraków Plaszów – Kraków Bonarka (– Skawina)

[135a] (ERA-E 78C2; ERA-R 182; R15) PL24/80

One daily eastbound service shown in 2023/24. Services via this route were significantly reduced once the Kraków Plaszów avoiding curve opened in December 2017, since then varying from a service but all buses, to one train in one direction to nothing at all. In 2022/23 there was one train pair scheduled from 22 December 2022 - 28 February 2023, then just one PR from 1 - 31 August 2023.

None scheduled in the PDFs for 2023/24. In 2023, two sources, one here, advised after the event, and photographs confirmed that this line was used by the pair of "Flisak" TLK's between 16 - 21 September 2023 but this was not reflected in the PKP journey planner. This 33km freight only line (line 218) has been used occasionally for diversions.

Łagów

Toporów - Łagów

[375] (ERA-E 74B13; ERA-R 175B3; D2) PL24/83

PolRegio have confirmed services will run again in 2024 but the only details known as at December 2023 are of an additional special from Gorzów Wielkopolski to Łagów on 17 June 2024. In 2023 PolRegio ran a pair of SSuO summer services from Zielona Góra/Zbąszynek to Łagów on 29 April, 1/3 May, 8/10/11 June and SSuO from 24 June - 3 September 2023 and timings were in the Journey Planner. These also ran in 2020 and 2021 but 2022's were shown as a bus. As at 11 June 2023 they were shown departing Zbąszynek at 09:10, returning from Łagów at 18:28.

The 2021 flyer was this timetable so there may be something similar for 2024.

Legnica

Legnica - Legnica Piekary [- Jawor]

[235] (ERA-E 77B; ERA-R 180C5 Not shown); R12) PL24/84

From 12 June 2022 all passenger trains to/from Jawor were using the normally freight only curve 749 on the south side of the EMU Depot to/from Peron I, services normally use line 137 on the north side to/from Peron IV or V. The March 2024 Peron sheets show most services still using Peron I but others using Peron V so prospective travellers should check the journey planner and stations screens for the up to date position.

Łódź Kaliska avoiding line 539

[200a/601 B110] (ERA-E 78B5; ERA-R 177B2-B3, R11) PL24/85

After a period of no use from 14 June until 24 August 2020, most IC trains between Warszawa and Ostrow Wielkopolski plus some local ŁKA services now use this curve.

Łódź Chojny - Łódź Olechow Wschód - curve 541 - Łódź Andrzejów [- Łódź Widzew]

[602a] (ERA-E 78B5; ERA-R 177B2; R11) PL24/86

The December 2019 timetable change introduced a "circle" service from Łódź Widzew to Łódź Kaliska via three new stations on the southern ring line between Łódź Olechow Wschód and Łódź Chojny with details in a new timetable 602a. Curve 541 was previously used only by staff trains, latterly unadvertised, and note this reopening meant reinstatement of the flyover to/from Łódź Olechów Wschód and Łódź Andrzejów.

Any use of the remaining section of the southern ring section from Łódź Olechow Wschód to Bedoń will be shown separately in PL24/87.

(Łódź Chojny –) Łódź Olechów Wschód - line 25 - Bedoń (- Koluszki)

[601/602a/200] (ERA-E 78B5; ERA-R 177B1; R11) PL24/87

There are two routes between Łódź Chojny and Bedoń: the usual albeit longer passenger route via Łódź Widzew or the southern ring line via Łódź Olechów Wschód and this entry lists services running direct between Łódź Olechów Wschód and Bedoń identified in T601 by no call at Łódź Widzew and < markers from Justynów to Łódź Dąbrowa.

A December 2023 PKP PLK Press Notice advised of additional diversions due to new station construction on the line towards Łódź Widzew so additional short notice diversions may be available.

Additionally note a Bedoń to Łódź Olechów Wschód journey search may find other "direct" services but these either run via a reversal at Łódź Widzew, or [as happened for a time after 6 November 2022] this entry was used by some Łódź Widzew - Koluszki services shown in map view reversing at Łódź Olechów Wschód [without calling] with extended running time. If these latter services repeat they can be identified in table 602a by calls to/from Łódź Fabryczna and Łódź Andrzejów and < to Koluszki.

[102, 102a, 601] (ERA-E 78B5-C5; ERA-R 177C1; F9) PL24/88

Trains between Łódź and Piotrków Trybunalski/Częstochowa that do not call at Koluszki use this west to south curve. Note newish Table 102a now concentrates on Piotrków Trybunalski - Koluszki services as the Łódź IC's using this curve do not appear in this table, see T102 instead.

[B] Line 537, a single track line from Żakowice Połudnowie via podg Zielen to Słotwiny previously indicated in Table 114a PDF by a timing at Słotwiny. Koluszki has now been added to this table and as all trains call there, no service via this route in 2023/24.

Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Note that Gałkówek via Żakowice Połudnowie to podg Zielen is common with part of PL24/90 and parts of both routes are scheduled during 2023/24 and Interrail and PR Regional tickets are not valid on services run by local operator ŁKA.

(Gałkówek –) Żakowice Południowe – p.odg. Zieleń – line 535 - Koluszki

[102a,601,114] (ERA-E 78B5-C5; ERA-R 177C1; R11) PL24/90

Train use falls into three distinct groups :-

[A] some Łódź area to Skierniewice and Warszawa or v.v. services in 601 calling at both Żakowice Południowe and Koluszki. In the December 2023 102a PDF these are shown with a footnote mentioning a call at Żakowice Południowe.
[B] from the Łódź area to/from Tomaszów Mazowiecki that pass through or call at Żakowice Południowe and reverse in platform 3 at Koluszki. These can be identified in table 114a by a < at Żakowice
[C] some Łódź <=> Koluszki <=> Piotrków Trybunalski services in table 102a with a < symbol at Żakowice plus a footnote indicating they stop at Żakowice Południowe.

Use was previously indicated only in T601 by either a timetable footnote, sometimes with a * or a < marker against Żakowice.

Łowicz area

(Warszawa -) Bednary - podg Arkadia - east to south line 533 (- Belchów - Skierniewice)

[606, 603] (ERA-E 75C1; ERA-R 177C2; E8) PL24/91

Not scheduled in 2023/24, last used by odd dates limited diversions 22-26 May, 19-27 June, 10-31 except 17/18 July 2023.

Lublin

Lublin west to south avoider: curve 588

[550/555] (ERA-E 79B4; ERA-R 184A5; F12, R4) PL24/92

No known use in 2024. In 2023, the SKPL timetable and PKP map view confirmed diversions via this 0.986km avoiding curve, Stalowa Wola Rozwadow and Zwierzyniec [reverse] of the eastbound service towards the Ukraine with calls at Lublin Zachodni between the 7-9 November 2023. PKP JP map view in fact showed both directions diverted, even though the SKPL website timings showed the westbound service still calling at Lublin Główny. This may have been the first ever scheduled passenger use and note this train is non-stop to/from Lublin and the Ukraine and tickets are only available on the UZD website.

Lubliniec area

Lubliniec avoiding line: podg. Jawonica – podg. Droniowiczki

[165/175] (ERA-E 78A3-B4; ERA-R 182A3; G6) PL24/93

This north <=> south connection links the Częstochowa line (table 175) with the Paczyna line (table 165). Last used by PKP services between 10 - 23 July 2017, plus from some time in 2020 by the RZD operated Nice - Moskva services until suspended during the height of the covid pandemic. In light of the Russia - Ukraine war these are unlikely to run for the foreseeable future.

The 2024 pair are not shown in 165 but are in 175 and 102 with appropriate < markers.

Lubliniec station – Paczyna

[165] (ERA-E 78A3-A4; ERA-R 182A3; G6) PL24/94

This 36.5 km section of an otherwise freight only line is used by the limited services listed in table 165 which from at least August 2021 include a pair of daily daytime services. Note due to long term engineering work that the previous T180 Katowice - Kluczbork - Ostrow Wielkopolski - Poznan IC's also run via this route as per the journey planner map view but do not appear in 165, and have < markers from Chorzów Batory to Rusinowic in 180.

There is a substantial south to west grade separated junction at Lubliniec.

Nowy Dwor Gdanski (Żuławskiej Kolei Dojazdowej narrow gauge railway)

[457] (ERA-E 75B4, not shown; ERA-R 172B3; A7) PL24/95

This system worked by the Pomorskie Towarzystwo Miłośników Kolei Żelaznych (PTMKŻ) with three unusual sections of track is a Spring to Autumn only preserved ex PKP narrow gauge line from Nowy Dwor Gdanski to Sztutowo and Prawy Brzeg Wisły. Details are on their 2023 timetable and they plan to recommence from 1 May 2024. Note after the 2022 May Bank Holiday weekend that the Nowy Dwór Gdański - Stegna Gdanska service was suspended until further notice due to renovation of the Rybina swing bridge and the summer 2023 timetable showed this continuing.

Stegna Gdanska

This is a triangular station with platforms on all three sides with the south to east curve to/from Sztutowo in use sporadically. In 2023 only the east to west side is timetabled due to the above temporary line closure, in previous years the south to east curve was only timetabled by one pair on 30 April, 1-3 May 2022 or 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26 September 2021, before then only in 2017 and 2013.

Sztutowo

If travelling to/from Sztutowo on either a loco hauled train or a railcar towing trailers it will reverse around a triangle on arrival or departure at Sztutowo as there is no run round loop.

Nowy Dwor Gdanski - Cementarz-Komunalny

Hourly shuttles run for "All Saints" on the last weekend in October which are the only services running south from Nowy Dwor Gdanski [1.4km]. They ran on October 31 and November 1 and 2 2023, [ten pairs], as well as in 2021 & 2022, but 2020 services were cancelled the day before they were due to run due to additional Covid restrictions. See their website.

Oleśnica

Dąbrowa Oleśnicka – Oleśnica Rataje – Oleśnica

[200, 321] (ERA-E 77C4; ERA-R 181B5; F5) PL24/96

Most trains between Ostrów Wielkopolski and Wrocław Główny take the direct route via the north to west curve (Dąbrowa Oleśnicka – Oleśnica Rataje – Borowa Oleśnica (p.odg. Łukanów)) avoiding Oleśnica. However some take this north-to-east curve into Oleśnica station and reverse. Either a timing or < against Oleśnica indicates which route is taken. Note this curve and the north to west curve consist of separate single lines between Dąbrowa Oleśnicka and Oleśnica Rataje.

Opole

Opole by-pass: Opole Wschodnie - line 277 - Opole Groszowice

[215, 220] (ERA-E 78A4; ERA-R 181C3; R14) PL24/97

Use was supposedly due to end but is shown continuing until 9 March 2024. Note one pair does not appear in the 215 PDF as it has no calls, but can be identified by "<" markers at stations between Opole Główne and Święta Katarzyna in table 220 and from its route in the journey planner map view. This limited overnight passenger use commenced for all of 2021/22, the first since limited engineering work diversions of 215 local services many years ago.

Opole Głowne connecting line

[175/201/215] (ERA-E 78A4; ERA-R 181C3 too detailed to be shown; R14) PL24/98

None scheduled in 2023/24. Opole Głowne is a "v" station with the junction at the west end, with an east end bay platform and a 300m connection across from the south to the north side tracks. This was previously only a reversing siding adjacent to Bay Peron 1 Track 3 but has had a platform built serving it to become Peron 1a track 5. Following use of this link by a Branch Line Society June 2022 Tour it took until 11 June 2023 for any Peron sheet timetabled use which continues, but as all are to/from Kędzierzyn-Koźle they would not use this connecting line.

[200, 320] (ERA-E 78A5; ERA-R 176C1; E5) PL24/99

Use continues in 2023/24. Some Łódź - Poznań services were supposedly temporarily diverted via Kalisz and this curve when their usual route via Kutno was closed for long term engineering work, but they and local services introduced later are still operating. Note the KW services do not appear in table 200 PDFs.

[135a, 141] (ERA-E 78B2-C2; ERA-R 182B1-C1; G7-G8) PL24/100

Local services were extended from Przeciszów to Oświęcim on 10 December 2023 so this entry will be deleted in December 2024. This line has re-opened to regular services in stages, 4km from Skawina to Podbory Skawińskie from 13 March 2022, and to Przeciszów on 1 October 2022.

Note the avoiding curve east junction is west of where the Skawina line joins the line from Trzebinia.

[120/140/141] (ERA-E 77B1; ERA-R 188C4; G7) PL24/101

This north <=> east curve links the Mysłowice and Skawina/Trzebinia lines.

None scheduled in 2023/24, last known use by an overnight pair on 23/25 to 28 September, 16 October to 4/6, 12-15, 26-29 November, 3-6 December 2023.

Piła

Piła - Piła Towarowa - line 999 - podg Piła Północ

[340/365] (ERA-E 74C3, not shown; ERA-R 176A5; C4) PL24/102

None scheduled in 2023/24 for this alternative 2.3km route via the Goods Yard and connecting line 999 and not scheduled since the Peron sheets showed the Kostryzn - Gdynia TLK diverted via Szczecinek for a few days in June and September 2020. This entry is retained as pointwork allows any train to/from Peron 1 to 4 and the Szczecinek or Walcz lines to run via line 999 to avoid a conflict on the single-track section to/from podg Piła Północ, as opposed to guaranteed use of line 999 by any such services booked to arrive or depart from Piła Glowna Peron 5 or 6.

Click on thumbnail for a map showing the line:-

Anyone wishing to search for this conflict avoiding possibility should use the map view facility after a search in the Journey Planner by clicking on the three vertical lines on the right-hand side above Connection Details and select “Show this connection on a map”.

Please notify the Compilers of any non-Peron V or VI services routed via line 999.

Poznań area

Routes via Poznań Franowo area

Franowo is a large marshalling yard and depot on the south freight ring around Poznań and the lines through the yard area provide an alternative to passing through Poznań Główny station. Use is normally:-

  • Trains to/from the north [almost exclusively to/from Szczecin] to avoid a reversal at Poznań Główny traverse through Poznań Franowo to/from the Warszawa and Inowrocław lines.
  • when the lines from Poznań Główny to Swarzędz or Kobylnica are closed due to engineering work.
  • By Turkol excursions from Poznań Główny. Different options exist, but the most usual are ‘short’ circulars via Franowo and Poznań Wschód or ‘long’ circulars via Franowo and the northern freight ring to Kiekrz where they reverse.

Within the Franowo area any Turkol anti-clockwise ‘long’ circuit services can take different routes, either Line 352 on the north side of the yard, or lines 823/824, a south side route from podg Pokrzywno and a flyover to podg Stary Młyn. Line 352 on the north side runs via platforms used by staff trains prior to their withdrawal in approximately December 2006 and all westbound or clockwise Turkol charters must take this route.

Poznań Starolęka - podg Pokrzywno - Poznań Franowo - Swarzędz

[300a] (ERA-E 74C1; ERA-R 180C1; R10&D4) PL24/103

There are up to five daytime pairs running via Franowo from 10 March - 8 June in the 2023/24 timetable year as confirmed in the journey planner map view and < markers from Poznań Antoninek to Poznań Garbary.

Local sources suggested these all use line 352 on the west side of Franowo Yards in both directions but a summer 2021 traveller reported an eastbound overnight ran to the east of all yards from podg Pokrzywno via line 806 as in previous years so reports of travel on eastbound services would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Przemyśl area

(Przemyśl Główny –) Hurko – Medyka (– Mostys'ka 2)

[122] (ERA-E 79B2; ERA-R 184B1; H12, R35) PL24/104

There are three routes between these points; from south to north they are:

  • Line 91, a cross border 1435 mm gauge line which ends east of Mostys'ka 1 in Ukraine.

This is used between Przemyśl Główny and Medyka by the PKP local service shown in Table 122a but note in the 2023/24 PDFs that this is no longer advertised to the last stop at Medyka, assumed related to the stations very close proximity to the rail and road border crossing.

  • Line 989, a 1435 mm gauge line through the marshalling yards, re-joining Line 91 at Medyka.

No passenger services use this line. Note that page H12 of the "2011 Atlas Linii Kolejowych Polski" is incorrect in showing passenger stations on 989; they are on Line 91 and the enlarged page R35 and on G13 in the 2022 edition show this correctly.

  • Line 92, the 1520 mm gauge line into Ukraine.

This route is used by any cross border Ukrainian Railways operated services between L'viv and Przemyśl Główny. These are no longer shown in PKP 122a and service levels can fluctuate with the refugee situation. As at December 2023 five pairs were shown in the PKP journey Planner.

Up until the 2016/17 TT change it was believed Lines 91 and 92 were used on alternate days by the overnight Wrocław - L'viv/Lvov service, with either a manual gauge change at Przemyśl (with a longer stop) or an SUW2000 gauge change at Mostys'ka 2 (with a relatively short stop at Przemyśl). The gauge changer at Mostys'ka 2 was noted out of use as at October 2017 but an April 2018 traveller confirms his overnight L'viv/Lvov services used Line 91 and the Mostys'ka 2 gauge changer. The Przemyśl Główny Peron sheets usually showed this service using a Standard gauge platform in both directions and the PKP Journey planner route map via Line 91, but note timings did not preclude use of the gauge changer at Przemyśl. This service was suspended for Covid, only resuming from 14 March until being withdrawn on 10 December 2022 so since then only BG passenger trains have crossed the border.

Przeworsk

Przeworsk avoiding line: Przeworsk Gorliczyna – podg Przeworsk Zachodnia

[116, 121] (ERA-E 79B3; ERA-R 184A1; G11), PL24/105

This curve enables trains between Stalowa Wola and Rzeszow to avoid reversing at Przeworsk as indicated by no timing at Przeworsk in timetables 116 and 121. Two pair all year use is shown for 2023/24.

Rejowiec

Rejowiec avoiding line: podg Rejowiec Zach. – podg Rejowiec Płd.

[550a/554] (ERA-E 79C4; ERA-R 184B4; F12) PL24/106

This reinstated west - south curve (line 563) resumed passenger use on 9 June 2019.

Rzepin: Connection from Frankfurt (Oder) to Zielona Góra line

[355, 300, M103] (ERA-E 74A1, not shown; ERA-R 175A3 not shown; D1 not shown) PL24/108

Rzepin is a two sided station with Frankfurt (Oder) to Poznań services using the north, and Szczecin to Zielona Góra services south side platforms with connections at each end.

At the west end is a 0.5km line through freight yards used by services between Frankfurt (Oder) and Zielona Góra as shown clearly shown in tables 300 and 355.

The 170m east end connection had been used since 2018 by a number of TLK's between Poznań and Szczecin but this reduced to a pair of overnights from 2022/23. Odd days excepted they are TLK 18172 departing Świebodzin at times from 03:57 to 04:55, and TLK 81170 departing Rzepin at 00:38 as listed in Table 300.

Skierniewice – line 529 – Skierniewice Rawka (podg. Miedniewice)

[601/B170] (ERA-E 75C1; ERA-R 177C2, not shown; E8) PL24/114

Any service to/from Warszawa using the new far north side platform [Peron 3 Track 104, opened by October 2019] must run via 2km of previously goods only track on the north side of a substantial yard, plus 1.9km long line 529, a separate alignment outside, and on the north side of the flyover to/from line 604. The same route is used in both directions thanks to a crossover east of the line 529 junction.

The only regular use of Peron 3 Track 104 is to/from the opposite Łowicz or Łodz direction but occasionally, [the last time by one train between 9-15 July 2023] this entry sees use, split between local KM services or calling IC's. Additionally there has been booked use by non-stopping IC services but these can only be found by a journey planner map view search and travellers advise running this way is subject to good timekeeping.

Szczecin area

Szczecin Główny eastern approaches

[361] (ERA-E 74A3; ERA-R 170B4; R1) PL24/120

There are two alternative routes from Szczecin Zdroje (p.odg. Regalica) to Szczecin Główny. The shorter northern route runs via Szczecin Port Centralny station into the northern end of Szczecin Główny, and the longer southern route via p.odg. Dziewoklicz and p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo into the southern end of Szczecin Główny. Services taking the southern route may be identified by a '<' symbol against Szczecin Port Centralny.

Szczecin Podjuchy - Szczecin Zdroje

[366, plus 361/370] (REA-E 74A3; ERA-R 170B4: R1) PL24/121

A replacement higher double track fixed bridge opened on the direct line towards Szczecin Główny on 10 December 2023 which from drone photos in this article appears to be on the same alignment as the replaced single track drawbridge. This resulted in much reduced use of this Szczecin avoiding curve except for one pair of summer only services. Note this pair are not shown in the 366 PDF and they also travel via the EGTRE entry Rzepin avoiding line.

[426] (ERA-E 75B4, not shown; ERA-R 172A2; R2) PL24/124

There are alternative routes to/from the Chojnice line: a double track main line to/from the east side platforms of Tczew station on a lengthy embankment to fly over the Gdansk and yard access lines, or a single track curve at ground level (line 727) on the west side. Any departures from platforms 1 & 2 must use line 727 but pointwork allows all platforms to be reached by arrivals from line 727.

Check the platform arrival/departure sheets for Tczew, or the journey planner map view as in some periods it has highlighted the different routes for these services... but there are no inbounds scheduled into Peron 1 or 2 in 2023/24.

Warszawa area - East of a north-south line through Warszawa Centralna

PKP IC have announced the substantial works in the Warszawa Zachodnia area are planned to end in June 2024, but the March 2024 PDFs contains numerous diversions for 3 - 8 June, so use of the many diversions listed to the east and west of Warszawa could cease, some already have no scheduled use in 2023/24.

Routes between Warszawa and Pilawa

There are three routes between Warszawa and Pilawa. All local trains run via Warszawa Olszynka Grochowska and Otwock but as the routes taken by main line services have varied over recent years they are itemised below.

[550, 613] (ERA-E 76A1; ERA-R 178B2; D10/E10) PL24/128

Use re-commenced from 17 September 2023 as indicated in table 550 by services with times at a Warszawa station and Pilawa plus a < at Otwock. Note those services running via Warszawa Gdanska also use PL24/127. Running via this route can also be indicated in 613 by a < at and beyond Minsk Mazowiecki.

This was previously the main route for fast trains between Warszawa Wschodnia and Pilawa but has significantly declined once south of Otwock was doubled.

The 2023-24 timetable has 16 trains using this route in December 2023, but much reduced later so they are listed as follows:-.

[Warszawa Wschodnia –] Warszawa Wschodnia Towarowa – p.odg. Warszawa Antoninów – line 506 - Warszawa Gocławek [– Warszawa Wawer]

[614] (ERA-E 76C5; ERA-R 174B5; R6, R8) PL24/129

This is an alternative route (line 506) between Warszawa Wschodnia and Warszawa Gocławek used by any services booked via Otwock with a < against Warszawa Olszynka Grochowska and Warszawa Grochów.

Note this route is grade separated at Warszawa Antoninów, with the inbound track remaining separate until the Warszawa Wschodnia near approaches. This routing has gone in and out of scheduled use over the years, most recently suspended when doubling of line 614 south of Otwock and four tracking south from Warszawa Gocławek towards Otwock was in progress. As part of the four tracking there will be two fast tracks on the east side and two local tracks on the west, so the flyover north from Warszawa Gocławek previously used by all northbound services towards Warszawa Olszynka Grochowska has been demolished.

In the 2023-24 timetable most but not all IC services via Otwock, plus a few local services take this obscure route. Click on the thumbnails for the diagrams:

[604, 605] (ERA-E 76A1; ERA-R 174B3; E10) PL24/132

There are no services in the 2023-24 timetable, last uses were short periods of limited train use in the November and mid-summer 2023 timetable updates. This south <=> east curve connects the Radom to Warszawa line with the southern freight ring. Up to 12 July 2019 limited Warszawa to Góra Kalwaria (and v.v.) services continued to Czachówek Południowy to reverse and used this curve.

[604, 605] (ERA-E 76A1; ERA-R 174B3; E10) PL24/133

This north <=> east curve connects the Warszawa to Radom line with the southern freight ring and is used by all direct services to/from Warszawa and Góra Kalwaria. Table 604 only shows Czachówek Wschodni and Góra Kalwaria stations but all services are through to/from at least Piaseczno on the main line via this curve. In the 2023-24 timetable most services start/finish at Warszawa Gdańska.

Warszawa area - west of a north-south line through Warszawa Centralna

PKP IC have announced the substantial works in the Warszawa Zachodnia area are planned to end in June 2024 but there are many scheduled between the 3 - 8 June 2024. Use of the many diversions listed to the east and west of Warszawa could then cease, some already have no scheduled use in 2023/24.

Warszawa Zachodnia Peron 9 [Ex Peron 8/Ex Warszawa Wola] connection to main line

[608] (ERA-E 76C5; ERA-R 174B5; R6) PL24/134

Following the substantial work west of Warszawa Zachodnia there have been changes to the routes to/from Warszawa Włochy or Warszawa Aleje Jerozolimskie.

From December 2023 limited through KM services commenced running to/from Warszawa Włochy and Warszawa Zachodnia Peron 9 and as confirmed in journey planner map view, these services are shown taking newly designated line 850 outside and on the north side of the flyover towards Warszawa Aleje Jerozolimskie [on the Radom line]. 850 was previously the normal westbound main line track which has been relocated alongside the eastbound to run underneath that Radom line flyover. Note some westbound services listed are not shown in the 601 PDF but in 606, others are included but with no time at Warszawa Zachodnia :-

Note C: To 18 May 2024
Note D: 11 March - 17 May 2024
Note E: 20 May - 8 June 2024

Travel between Warszawa Zachodnia Peron 9 and both Warszawa Włochy and Warszawa Aleje Jerozolimskie had previously been via a short link to a flat junction, with anything to/from Warszawa Aleje Jerozolimskie only then using flyover line 8 but historically all services to/from Warszawa Gdanska had terminated at Warszawa Wola/Zachodnia on platforms on a sharp curve some distance away from the main station platforms with nothing scheduled through onto either main line. But from December 2019 there was an hourly experimental service to/from Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina using the flat connection which became so popular that there were many complaints when they were withdrawn on 25 September 2020 so they were re-instated from 11 November 2020. A Press Notice then advised they could only run until 14 March 2021 due to the substantial Warszawa Zachodnia station improvement works but promised they would resume. After the westbound main line had been repositioned line 8 was now a conflict free route to/from Warszawa Zachodnia Peron 9 so regular services resumed from 12 March 2023.

As part of the improvement works, a new flyover has been built to allow a conflict free access from line 8 to the middle platforms at Warszawa Zachodnia, this starts from after line 8 crosses over both main line tracks and re-crosses the westbound main line.

Warszawa Włochy - Warszawa Zachodnia [5th track] and new flyover

[606/601] (ERA-E 76C5; ERA-R 174B5; R7) PL24/135

The 5th track commences in-between the two local lines to the east of Warszawa Włochy, [shown on OpenRailwayMap as line 3] as the two main and two local line tracks take different routes between Warszawa Włochy and Warszawa Zachodnia, the local lines additionally separating to run either side of an EMU Depot and sidings. It climbs over the outbound local line and has a separate alignment until approaching Warszawa Zachodnia. It appeared to be previously reversible, but its prime function was to allow inbound main line services from Sochaszew on line 606 a non-conflicting approach to the north side platforms at Warszawa Zachodnia. Any local services from lines 601/606 to the recently re-opened Warszawa Głowna also use this fifth track for the same reason and such journeys are clearly shown in journey planner map view.

The alignments on the western approaches close to Zachodnia have changed including a new flyover [see PL24/134] so that may have marginally altered the previous 5th track approach location, as this ex Radom flyover line towards W-Zachodnia drops to come alongside this 5th track when previously it was on a unique alignment in that area.

Warszawa Zachodnia "avoider": Warszawa Aleje Jerozolimskie - Line 510 - part line 20 - Warszawa-Gołąbki [- Line 19 - Piastów]

[601, 612] (ERA-E 76C5; ERA-R174B4; R7, R5) PL24/136

No scheduled use in the 2023-24 timetable, last used in part in early 2022/23, see PL24/137. Previously a new IC service started in 2019/20 between Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina and Łódź Fabryczna running via these freight only routes. Trains ran approximately two hourly with gaps but were suspended due to Covid from 18 March 2020, shown resuming on 8 November 2020 but have never resumed.

Part of this description is covered by other obscure route entries, and the rarer line 510 has seen use combined with an alternative routing since the 2021/22 timetable which repeated from December 2022. Therefore a separate entry for that has been set up below.

Warszawa Zachodnia "avoider": Warszawa Aleje Jerozolimskie - Line 510 - part line 20 - Warszawa-Gołąbki [reverse] [- line 509 - Warszawa Gdanska]

[110, 601, 605] (ERA-E 76C5; ERA-R174B4; R7, R5) PL24/137

No use in 2023-24. Previous use was for a few days in June and July 2023, and short periods in 2021 and 2022. These services ran to/from Warszawa Aleje Jerozolimskie via line 510 and line 20 to the end of Warszawa Główna Towarowa freight yard, reversed and used line 509 to/from Warszawa Gdańska.

Warszawa Gdańska – line 509 - Warszawa Jelonki – Warszawa Gołąbki – Piastów (podg Jozefinów)

[601, 608] (ERA-E 76C5; ERA-R174B4; R7, R5) PL24/138

Frequent use continues in 2023/24. This route allows trains to/from the CMK, Koluszki or destinations such as Łódź, Częstochowa and Wrocław to/from Warszawa Gdańska to avoid Warszawa Zachodnia. Please use the Journey Planner map view facility for diversions due to engineering works at Warszawa Zachodnia.

The trains using the route can most easily be identified from the All Year arrival and departure sheets for Warszawa Gdańska Peron sheets. Alternatively look at timetables 100, 601 and departures/arrivals at Warszawa Gdańska, some from/to Warszawa Wschodnia or those that do not call at Warszawa Centralna and Warszawa Zachodnia and have twelve < and two | at Pruszków. See also PL24/140 for extra detail on Warszawa Gołąbki.

  • Option [B] From Warszawa Zachodnia Peron 9 using line 20 throughout which is approximately 40m further north than lines 42/46. No use has been noted in the March 2024 PDFs.
  • Option [C] The towards Warszawa split of line 46 from Warszawa-Czyste via a diveunder to lower numbered platforms at Warszawa Zachodnia was blocked during the current major reconstruction work and does not yet appear to have been re-instated.

Warszawa Gdańska - Line 507 - Warszawa Gołąbki - Sochaczew

[606,300] (ERA-E 76C5; ERA-R 174B4; R5) PL24/140

This entry indicates use of the connections at Warszawa Gołąbki to/from the Sochaczew main line and Warszawa Gdańska as shown clearly on Open Railway Map.

The Westbound split of 507 is a 1.5km separate line running outside the 606 main line flyover from east of Warszawa Gołąbki by-passing the platform and not joining the main line until west of the station. Only services from Warszawa Gdańska towards Sochaczew use this as those from Warszawa Zachodnia via PL24/139 can only cross to table 606 to the west of Warszawa Gołąbki station.

The eastbound towards Warszawa Gdanska routing is a crossover west of Warszawa Gołąbki platform onto the eastbound track of line 507 parallel with line 19, then under the main line 606 flyover until 507 and 19 combine to join line 509 as a continuation of PL24/138.

Use continues in 2023/24 which can be identified by a direct journey planner search between Warszawa Gdańska and Sochaczew and has been in use by limited passenger services since work to upgrade Warszawa Zachodnia commenced in 2020/21.

In addition to those listed below there are five westbound and eight eastbound between 3 - 8 June 2024 as clearly shown in PDF 606.

Węgliniec

Węgliniec – Bielawa Dolna – Horka Gbf [DB]

[260] (ERA-E 77A5; ERA-R 180B5; F2) PL24/141

Pociąg do Kultury / Kulturzug trains resumed via this route on 16 June 2023, running every weekend until 1 January 2024 via Horka Gbf except a pair on 30 September/1 October 2023 which reverted via T270. Press comments advised there would be then a break while the service was re-assessed so it is unclear if this will resume later in 2024, and if so by which route. Before 2023 this cross border routing was in use by some eastbound services between 9 July and 29 August 2022, 22 May 2021 and 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 October 2019.

Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

This is a split station with the junction some way north of the platforms and any service to/from Laskowice Pomorskie via Drzycim [currently suspended] terminating at the east side Peron I on a curve. Therefore the 1km to/from that platform and the junction sees no regular use as opposed to/from the west side Bydgoszcz platforms. The December 2023 PDFs show Peron 1 to/from the north in limited use and note the physical junction is a diamond slip so trains to/from Peron I and Lipowa Tucholska/Szlachta use slightly different pointwork from any to/from Tuchola.

See the Wierzchucin Peron sheets.

Wierzchucin - Laskowice Pomorskie

[431a/431] (ERA-E 75A3; ERA-R 171C1; B6) PL24/143

Passenger services on this 26km long line were suspended due to Covid travel restrictions from 18 March 2020 and have not been restored. Since then there have been occasions of timetabled odd day, and even one direction only PDF shown use, but recently only by limited services diverted from 431 between Bydgoszcz and Wierzchucin. Use can be identified by a series of < markers between Wierzchucin and Maksymilianowo plus timings to/from Bydgoszcz. The previous use was between 6 - 10 November 2023 by three departures from Wierzchucin and two from Bydgoszcz Główną and note any services to/from north of Wierzchucin would also use PL24/142.

Next scheduled use is by departures from Bydgoszcz Główną to Tuchola at 23:09 on 15 April, and at 22:56 between 16 - 19 April 2024.

Wrocław area

(Wrocław Główny) – Wrocław Muchobór - Line 275 - Wrocław Nowy Dwór

[260] (ERA-E 77C4; ERA-R 180A1; R13) PL24/144

In previous years what appears to be a grade separated junction between Wrocław Muchobór and Wrocław Nowy Dwór to/from Legnica was not used as such as the majority of services in both directions used the south side/inside curve to/from Peron 2; only services running through or calling at Peron 1 used the diveunder. Main line services were known to use either route and despite the on-line Peron sheet for Wrocław Nowy Dwór and Journey Planner showing use of both platforms, a traveller in 2020 advised the departure sheet displayed at the station showed all services using Peron 2.

Note the Journey Planner map view does not distinguish between the two sides of this junction but reports received in June 2022 advised their westbound non-stopping semi-fast, or expresses used the outside curve and a local in May 2023 did likewise so reports would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Wrocław Muchobór - Line 757 - Signalbox WS - podg Wrocław Grabiszyn [- Wrocław Głowny]

[260, 265] (ERA-E 77C4; ERA-R 180A1; R13) PL24/145

No scheduled use in 2023/24. This is an alternative route between Wrocław Muchobór and podg Wrocław Grabiszyn. Any train booked to call at platform II track 4 at Wrocław Muchobór must run via this route but as there is no intermediate station for a > marker these can only be identified from the Peron sheets. Last scheduled up to 8 December 2023 and use has varied from zero, through limited to extensive in recent years and note the physical junction is north of Wrocław Muchobór station platform.

As part of a successful kolej+ bid line 757 is to be doubled to allow regular services to a re-opened Wrocław Świebodzki.

Września

Września avoiding line Gutowo Wlkp. (p.odg. Sokołowo Wrzesińskie) – Podstolice (Pd box)

[300/300a] (ERA-E 75A1; ERA-R 176B3-C3; D5) PL24/146

This east <=> west main line avoiding Września station is used by trains on table 300 with a < at Września.

Żagań area

Żagań - line 275 - Bieniów

[356] (ERA-E 77A5; ERA-R 175B1; E2) PL24/147

None scheduled in 2024 which can be identified by a "<" at Lubanice. All Zielona Góra Główna - Żary services were diverted via this almost 16km long freight line to reverse at Bieniów between 24 October - 11 November 2023.

Żagań - line 389 - Jankowa Żagańska (- Węgliniec)

[356] (ERA-E 77A5; ERA-R 175B1; E2) PL24/148

In regular limited use since December 2020 as identified by "<" markers at Żary Kunice and a timing at Jankowa Żagańska. Note the junction at Jankowa Żagańska is some way south of the "V" station.

Jankowa Żagańska - line 380 - Przewoz

[356] (ERA-E 77A5; ERA-R 175B1; E2) PL24/149

A press article advises PolRegio ran two excursions from Zielona Góra onto the 23km long freight branch from Jankowa Żagańska to Przewoz on 13 May and 16 September 2023 and there will repeats on yet to be confirmed dates in 2024. They were advertised by PolRegio under the Programme of "Poczuj przygodę odkrywając Lubuskie pociągami POLREGIO" to visit Park Mużakowski.

A search finds the 2023 timings were Zielona Góra d 09:42 a 21:26, Przewoz a 11:34 d 19:28.

Zagórz area

Zagórz R101 - Zagórz (Zagórz east to south curve)

[128, 131, 134] (ERA-E 79B2; ERA-R 187A5; H11) PL24/150

From 1 March 2023 a new local service from Sanok to Ustrzyki Dolne service commenced with 3 train pairs SSuX, and 1 pair SSuO meaning only the Zagórz east to south curve can now be considered an obscure route. This is scheduled by a SKPL DMU operated TLK to Uherce outbound on May day weekend and Summer Saturday's from Kraków Główny via Sanok and the Zagórz west to east curve to Uherce to reverse, returning via this Zagórz east to south curve to Łupków. The return service on the Sunday takes this route in reverse via Uherce. This is again shown running in 2024 with timings in the three PDFs.

Zakopane temporary station

[135] (ERA-E 78C1; ERA-R 185C4; H8) PL24/151

The main station re-opened as planned on 22 December 2023 so this entry will be deleted in December 2024.

This entry referred to use of a temporary station 1km north in Zakopane Spyrkówka goods yard with two platforms on a roughly 600 metre branch up to 100m width away from the main line used when the main station was closed for totally new track infrastructure from an unknown date in 2022 until 3 September 2022, then again from 22 December 2022 - 28 February 2023. It had two separate platforms, the one used by long-distance passenger services going further into the yard.

Żary: connecting line 74

[270] (ERA-E 77A5 not shown; ERA-R 175B1 not shown; E2) PL24/152

None scheduled in 2023/24. Żary platforms are on either side of a central station building with a lengthy connection to/from Peron 2 on the Zielona Gora platform side to/from the Tuplice/Forst line whose services normally use Peron 3 or 4. Last use by one train from 4 - 7 September 2023.

Zgorzelec

Zgorzelec

[255/260] (ERA-E 77A4; ERA-R 180B5; F2) PL24/153

Note all services to/from Lubań Śląski to Zgorzelec continue to/from Görlitz [DB] and Zgorzelec is a "v" station with the junction with table 260 considerably west of the platforms. This lengthy overlap had until 2018 only been used by an unusual Węgliniec to Lubań Śląski service calling at Zgorzelec twice after a reversal on the main line.

Obscure services: Lines used on an occasional basis for engineering work diversions

Radzice – Idzikowice (Line 573)

[100/113] (ERA-E 78C5; ERA-R 183A5; E9) PL23/9

Last scheduled by several Kraków Główny <=> Olsztyn Główny services up to 13 March 2022. Any services reverse at Idzikowice and use this curve between the CMK and line 113 and to note they do not appear in table 100.

Podg Dorota – line 171 – Dąbrowa Gornicza Wschodnia (– Sławków)

[105] (ERA-E 77B2; ERA-R 188A4-B4; R18) PL23/52

Last scheduled from 10 April to 9 May 2022 when all Katowice <=> Kozłów services were diverted via this and PL23/51, running from Sosnowiec Dańdówka to Sławków without calling at Dąbrowa Gornicza Wschodnia. Note both tracks north from podg Dorota are grade separated by width and height from line 133 in-between as is the curve to Dąbrowa Gornicza Wschodnia so travel in both directions is recommended.

(Katowice – Sosnowiec Porąbka) – Sosnowiec Kazimierz avoider curve 663 – line 163 – Sosnowiec Maczki (– Jaworzno Szczakowa)

[140] (ERA-E 77B2; ERA-R 188B4; R18) PL23/57

Last used between March and June 2021, then only an overnight train pair until 29 August 2021. This is an alternative route between Katowice and Jaworzno Szczakowa indicated by < markers at Mysłowice and a partial entry in 105. The regular passenger service on line 163 using the north to east curve to/from Sosnowiec Kazimierz as part of then table 105 ended on 2 April 2001.

Lublin Tatary Goods Yard: Świdnik – Lublin Tatary - Lublin

[550A] (ERA-E 79B4; ERA-R 184A5; F12, R4) PL23/103

Last used from an unknown date in 2021 until 28 August 2021 by the Piła Główny to Hrubieszów Miasto train pair. This is the route through Lublin Tatary Goods Yard known as line 67 which starts at Świdnik and re-joins the normal route just before Lublin station. Trains using this route may be identified by a < symbol at only Lublin Północny.

Szczecin Główny western approaches

[368, 369] (ERA-E 74A3; ERA-R 170B4; R1) PL23/144

There are three possible routes between Szczecin Gumieńce and Szczecin Główny. From north to south these are:

  • a single track line via Szczecin Wzgórze Hetmańskie and Szczecin Pomorzany
  • the single track direct line, which is the one normally used
  • the southern loop via p.odg. Szczecin Wstowo - p.odg. Dziewoklicz - Szczecin Port Centralny.

There were diversions in 2017 via Szczecin Wzgórze Hetmańskie and some via an unspecified route (with allowances up to 14 minutes) on 20/21 & 24 June - 7 July 2019. No timetabled diversions scheduled since but a later traveller is known to have travelled via Szczecin Wzgórze Hetmańskie.

Warszawa Praga - Warszawa Toruńska

[608] (ERA-E 76C5; ERA-R 174B5; R5) PL23/154

Between 23 - 28 August 2020 many services to/from Warszawa Gdanska and Legionowo had < markers at Warszawa Praga and Warszawa Toruńska but these used parallel non-platform lines rather than through the freight yard. For a passenger service to run the complete length of the yard and the grade separated junction at the north end, the PDF should also show a < marker at Warszawa Zeran.

Corridor Trains

The following sections of line within Poland can be ridden only in the through (corridor) trains of neighbouring administrations:

  • (Hagenwerder [Germany] -) Hagenwerder Grenze (frontier) - Krzewina Zgorzelecka - Trzciniec frontier and Trzciniec frontier - Hirschfelde Grenze (frontier) (- Hirschfelde [Germany]) (36A2). There is a 200m stretch of line in Germany between the two frontiers at Trzciniec. The line is operated only by ODEG trains on the Zittau - Görlitz - Cottbus route (former DB table 220).
  • (Zittau [Germany] -) frontier - frontier (- Hrádek nad Nisou [Czech Republic]) (36A2): ČD table 089. There are no stations in Poland on this line.
  • Głuchołazy - frontier (- Jindřichov ve Slezsku [Czech Republic]) (37A1): Through Krnov – Jesenik trains on ČD table 292 use PKP tracks in and out of Głuchołazy as there is no triangle here and the approximately 13km of PKP tracks east of Głuchołazy are only traversed by ČD services. From 10 December 2006 ČD services call to set down and pick up at Głuchołazy.
