This route has been planned for many years - some construction work was done on the Macedonian side - and it was announced at the end of 2010 that construction would restart in 2012.
This route has been planned for many years. Construction of the Kumanovo - Beljakovce section began in March 2014. Completion was allegedly planned within two years but it has been postponed several times. On 29 May 2020 the contractors terminated the contract, with the work only half complete. On 14 July 2017 the European Union announced it would finance construction of the whole line on the Understanding that it would be completed by 2025/2027. This is now clearly unrealistic.
 
No work has been undertaken on the Bulgarian side of the border.
