Introduction

This list is based on the timetable in force from 13 December 2015 until 10 December 2016, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

In the heading to each entry the map reference for the line in the Schweers+Wall Eisenbahn Atlas (2011 edition) is shown, in italic, in addition to the reference to M.G. Ball's European Railway Atlas.

Obscure services

Mannheim-Waldhof – Mannheim Hbf (via Mannheim-Käfertal)

[655, 655.1] (55A1-55A2, 159A2-159A1) DE16/601

Most trains between Mannheim-Waldhof and Mannheim Hbf run via Mannheim-Luzenberg. Only one train is now scheduled to call at Mannheim-Käfertal and, therefore, obliged to use the alternative route. TGV/ICE trains between Frankfurt am Main and Paris via Saarbrücken run via Mannheim-Käfertal, except between 16 July and 28 August 2016 when they are diverted via Darmstadt.

[719] (57A1 not shown correctly, 102C1) DE16/603

This north to west curve forms part of the triangular junction between the Karlsruhe – Basel main line and the line to Kehl and Strasbourg. Local trains between Kehl and Offenburg stopping at Appenweier, use platform 9 on the south curve. The north curve is used by through trains between Karlsruhe and Strasbourg, which are

  • TGV/ICE between Paris and Stuttgart
  • TGV/ICE between Paris and Frankfurt am Main via Karlsruhe
  • EN between Paris and Moskva

Ubstadt-Weiher (Abzw Ubstadt) – Vaihingen (Enz.) (Abzw Rollenberg)

[771] (57B2 not shown, 161B1) DE16/604

This north to east curve connects the Heidelberg to Karlsruhe main line with the Mannheim to Stuttgart Schnellfahrstrecke. It is used by frequent EC/IC/ICE trains non-stop between Heidelberg Hbf and Vaihingen (Enz) or Stuttgart Hbf.

Bruchsal (Abzw Bruchsal Nord) – Vaihingen (Enz.) (Abzw Rollenberg)

[770] (57B2 not shown, 161B1) DE16/605

Bruchsal – Bruchsal Tunnelstraße (Abzw Bruchsal Ost)

[710.9] (57B2, 161A2-B2) DE16/606

There are two routes into Bruchsal from Abzw Bruchsal Ost. The 'long curve' (line 4131) is used by RE trains from Stuttgart to Heidelberg. Other trains use the 'short curve' (line 4130).

[772] (57B2, 94A2) DE16/607

This west to north curve links the Pforzheim and Bretten lines, avoiding Mühlacker, and is used on Sundays and public holidays 1 May to 16 October 2016 by the following trains.

E SuO RB22261 Pforzheim Hbf - 10:20 Enzberg - Maulbronn Stadt
E SuO RB22260 Maulbronn Stadt - 17:28 Maulbronn West - Pforzheim Hbf

[710.1 not shown] (57A2 not shown, 160C2) DE16/608

Vaihingen (Enz) (Langes Feld) - Stuttgart-Zazenhausen

[750, 771] (58A1, 168B1-168B2) DE16/609

This connection between the Schnellfahrstrecke and the passenger line from Kornwestheim to Stuttgart-Untertürkheim allows trains to avoid reversal at Stuttgart Hbf. The importance of calls at Stuttgart is such that very little passenger use is made of this route and diversion of the following trains is unusual.

D2 EC115 Münster (Westf) - 11:02 Mannheim Hbf - Klagenfurt Hbf
D2 EC114 Klagenfurt Hbf - 15:51 Plochingen - Dortmund Hbf

D2: 30 July to 11 September 2016

Laupheim Stadt avoiding line: Laupheim West - Schemmerberg

[751] (69B3 not shown, 105A3 not shown) DE16/610

The Laupheim Stadt branch is connected to the Ulm - Friedrichshafen main line by a triangular junction at Laupheim West. Through services calling at Laupheim Stadt use the north and south curves whereas those not calling at Laupheim Stadt use the main line avoiding the branch. For most of the day there is an hourly service in each direction via Laupheim Stadt and at least one train each hour between Ulm and Biberach direct.

Ettlingen West – Ettlingen Erbprinz

(57A2, 161B4) DE16/611

Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde e. V. operate a number of steam excursions from Ettlingen Stadt to Herrenalb, which occasionally start back at Karlsruhe Hbf and use the above, normally freight-only, connection. For more details go to the Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde website.

Schlatt (Hohenz.) (Walkmühle) – Hechingen Landesbahn

[767] (68B3, 104A2) DE16/612

The service from Hechingen Landesbahn to Eyach operates on Sundays and Bank Holidays between 1 May and 18 October. The following train, the first of the day, runs through from Gammertingen and is the only one to use the above connection. Click on the thumbnail for a full size map.

Almost all trains to and from Münsingen use the terminal platform on the north side of the station, but trains running to and from Trochtelfingen or Gammertingen have to use the connection to the south side.
