Introduction

This list is based on the timetable in force until 14 December 2013, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

In the heading to each entry the map reference for the line in the Schweers+Wall Eisenbahn Atlas (2007/2008 edition) is shown, in italic, in addition to the reference to M.G. Ball's European Railway Atlas.

Obscure services

Magdeburg-Buckau – Magdeburg Sudenburg

This south to west curve connects the Halle and Helmstedt lines, avoiding reversal at Magdeburg. The only passenger trains to use this line are:

FO IC1933 Oldenburg (Oldb) Hbf – 15:13 Helmstedt – Leipzig Hbf

Lutherstadt Wittenberg

The Berlin – Bitterfeld and Falkenberg – Roßlau lines run parallel through Lutherstadt Wittenberg. The following uses the connection between the two north of the station:

Köthen avoiding line: Frenz (Stw Köthen B4) – Arensdorf (Stw Köthen W7)

E1 12 July - 16 August 2013. On other dates the train runs via the main line via Weimar.

Stiege Loop (HSB)

A balloon loop at Stiege enables trains to run between the Alexisbad and Eisfelder Talmühle lines without reversing. Passenger trains sometimes traverse this loop but there have been regular occurences of locomotives running round the loop 'light engine' and of railcar drivers changing ends.
