Introduction

This list is based on the timetable in force from 13 December 2015 until 10 December 2016, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

In the heading to each entry the map reference for the line in the Schweers+Wall Eisenbahn Atlas (2007/2008 edition) is shown, in italic, in addition to the reference to M.G. Ball's European Railway Atlas.

Obscure services

Grimmenthal – Ritschenhausen

[815] (52A3, 79C1) DE16/551

This line is used by trains between Erfurt Hbf and Schweinfurt Hbf, to avoid reversal at Meiningen. These run every two hours.

Grimmenthal: connections at west and east ends of station

[570] (52A3, 79D1) DE16/552

Just west of Grimmenthal station, the Meiningen – Themar line crosses over the Schweinfurt – Suhl line, each route having its own platforms at Grimmenthal. To enable through running between Meiningen and Suhl, there are connecting spurs at both west and east ends of the station. In general, the western spur is used by trains from Meiningen to Zella-Mehlis or Erfurt whereas those from Erfurt or Zella-Mehlis to Meiningen use the eastern spur.

Großheringen west curve: Großheringen — Camburg (Abzw. Großheringen Ghs)

[560] (49A1, 69A1 poorly shown) DE16/553

A small number of trains on the Saalfeld line start or terminate at Großheringen rather than Naumburg or Leipzig.

ABR74072 05:21 Großheringen – Saalfeld(Saale)
SSuO ABR74074 06:01 Großheringen – Saalfeld(Saale)
ABR74092 21:56 Großheringen – Saalfeld(Saale)
ABR74037 Saalfeld(Saale) – 20:58 Camburg(Saale) – Großheringen (reverse) – Leipzig Hbf
ABR74087 Saalfeld(Saale) – 22:33 Camburg(Saale) – Großheringen
ABR74089 Saalfeld(Saale) – 23:22/23:41 Camburg(Saale) – Großheringen

In addition, owing to engineering work between Weimar and Jena, all trains between Weimar and Jena-Göschwitz in the period 2 April to 3 September 2016 are diverted via Apolda and this curve. See Table 565.
