This list is based on the timetable in force from 13 December 2020. Although the timetable is shown as valid until 12 June 2021, many long-distance services are shown as operating for only a few months. These are indicated herein with the standard 'D' note for a dated train, but it is a reasonable expectation that their period of operation will be extended or a similar service is provided instead. It is assumed that the timetable will continue to be updated and reissued monthly, as has been the case since summer 2020. In general, local services are operating as usual, but there is a significant reduction in the number of long-distance trains. Users are recommended to check the Trenitalia website to ensure they are using the latest version of the timetable.

Table numbers quoted here are from In Treno Tutt'Italia, the official Trenitalia timetable. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA-E" refer to the European Railway Atlas (All-Europe Edition) by M.G. Ball. References prefixed "ERA-R" refer to the European Railway Atlas (Regional Series - Italy) by M.G. Ball. References prefixed "S+W", or in italic, refer to Atlante ferroviaro d'Italia e Slovenia by Schweers + Wall.

Two useful symbols exist which show the booked route for trains not calling at a station: in the middle of the train column, a vertical bar "|" means that the train passes through the station without stopping, whereas a dot "." means that the train does not pass through that station but instead takes a different route.

Obscure services

Ferrovie della Sardegna obscure services

Limited services, marketed as Il Trenino Verde della Sardegna, normally operate over the following Ferrovie della Sardegna lines during the summer. There are also occasional public excursions at other times. Details are shown on website, but it should be noted that these may vary in practice, particularly if there are insufficient advance bookings. It is also possible to charter trains.

Proposals to close all lines which do not have year-round passenger traffic have been dropped in favour of plans to rehabilitate them. Traffic was suspended from 24 June 2016 between Laconi and Sorgono and between Seui and Arbatax, because of the poor condition of some bridges. The lines to Sorgono and between Gairo and Arbatax re-opened for the 2017 season, but Seui to Gairo remained closed.

Services in 2018 were cut back somewhat and it was announced that there will only be a limited service on one line, thought to be Palau to Tempio in 2019, allegedly due to renovation work taking place on other lines. No timetable was available by the start of the normal operating season in mid-June 2019 and there have been reports of legal difficulties preventing any service being operated but the website Calendario shows details of trains operating from 8 August 2019.

The Calendario only shows the initial departure time and nothing on return timings so PLEASE NOTE where a return is on the same day that those shown below are from 2018 and this is no guide as to what service may operate in 2020.

Palau - Tempio

(113C1-113A3) IT18/172

Despite the website section for this line stating no trains will operate in 2019 the Calendario shows services as shown from 11 August 2019 and are planned for 2020.

D MWFO 09:00 Palau - Tempio
D TWFSuO 16:00 Tempio - Palau

Bosa Marina - Sindia - Macomer

(114B3-114C3) IT18/173

The Treninoverde website suggests services operated on the complete line from 9 August 2019 as opposed to just Bosa - Sindia in 2018 but are exclusively rented by Esedra Escursioni to whom you are directed to enquire about tickets via These appear to run on Saturdays and Sundays departing at 09:00 with no return the same day but it is impossible from the identical website entries for each day to confirm if it is 9am from Macomer or Bosa Marina!! There are additional services scheduled between Bosa Marina and Nigolosu. Services are planned for 2020.

D S or SuO 09:00 Macomer or Bosa Marina - Bosa Marina - Macomer
D S or SuO 09:00 Macomer or Bosa Marina - Bosa Marina - Macomer

Mandas - Laconi

(117A3-117A2) IT18/174

2019 services appeared to commence from 11 August but the Calendario does not confirm the return departure time. That is the 2018 timing. The website section for this line confirms Laconi to Sorgono was closed in 2019 but a service is planned in 2020

D SuO 09:00 Mandas - Laconi
D SuO 17:00 Laconi - Mandas

Mandas - Sadali - Seui

(117A3-117B2) IT18/175

The Calendario shows services commencing on 12 August and extended 14km beyond Sadali to Seui with no return time stated! The section of the website for this service states they are planned to resume right through to Arbatax in 2020

D MTO 09:05 Mandas - Seui
D MTO Unknown Seui - Mandas

Arbatax - Gairo

(117D1-117C2) IT18/176

Confusingly only this service section of the website claims Gairo to Mandas was closed suggesting no service on IT18/175 in 2019. It does state Arbatax - Gairo should operate in 2020 These are the 2018 timings.

D ThFSSuO 08:00 Arbatax - Gairo
D ThFSSuO 16:30 Gairo - Arbatax

There were no passenger trains over the following Ferrovie della Sardegna lines in 2018.

Sassari - Tempio

Macomer - Sindia

Laconi - Sorgono

Seui - Gairo [due to major rock falls].
