Introduction

This list is based on the timetable year 14 December 2014 to 12 December 2015, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

Obscure services

Luxembourg — Oetrange via Luxembourg Triage (yard), Luxembourg Sud, Berchem Est and Syren

[30] (18A2) LU14/1

This route, which starts by running south from Luxembourg station on the east side of the freight yard, provides an alternative route between Luxembourg station and the Trier line. It is used only by trains which do not stop at Cents Hamm or Sandweiler Contern and are given 2 – 4 minutes longer. Based on observations in summer 2014, most trains to/from Trier appear to use this route. It was also noted that the LU14/1 route always used platform 10AB at Luxembourg, whereas the northern route used platform 10CD, so there appears to be a clue in the platforming.

This line can also be used by trains to/from the Bettembourg direction as far as Luxembourg Sud and Howald, particularly during at peak times when capacity is limited.

Luxembourg avoiding line: Bertrange-Strassen (Luxembourg Hollerich, km 1.4) — Luxembourg Sud (km 14.0) via Luxembourg Triage (yard)

(18A2) LU14/2

This line, which avoids Luxembourg City to the south, links the line from Belgium via Arlon with the line to France via Thionville. The compilers are not aware of any booked passenger services over this route at present, although plans exist for future services to serve a new station at Cessange.

Bettembourg avoiding line: Hettange-Grande [France] (Bettembourg south junction) - Noertzange (Bettembourg west junction)

[60, 80] (18A1) LU14/3

This line, which avoids Bettembourg to the south, links the line from France via Thionville with the line to Rodange via Esch sur Alzette. Services on this route are designed to serve the new station at Belval-Université.

(17B1) LU14/4

See Belgium - Lines with Obscure or Sparse passenger services. .

Ettelbruck — Bissen

(18A2) LU14/5

This 9 km non-electrified freight-only line is a remnant of the former PH line to Steinfort and Pétange. In most years there are one or more special trains that traverse this line, often in January. They run only as far as the station at Bissen, approximately 7.8 km from Ettelbruck. Information on these trains is posted in advance to relevant groups.

Other Sparse services

60b Noertzange to Rumelange has only a limited commuter service SSuX.
