This route, which starts by running south from Luxembourg station on the east side of the freight yard, provides an alternative route between Luxembourg station and the Trier line. It is used by trains which do not stop at Cents Hamm or Sandweiler Contern and are given 2 – 4 minutes longer. The following train appears to use this route in the current timetable although the running time seems too short.

There are plans to route passenger services over this route in future to serve a new station at Cessange.
The compilers would appreciate feedback on the routing of this train.
Use of this route is now less likely as the normal exit route from Luxembourg station, shared with line 10, has now been four tracked. In addition the single line section of Line 30 has also been double tracked through to Sandweiler Contern.

This 9 km non electrified freight only line is all that remains of the former PH line to Steinfort and Petange. Most years there are one or more special trains that traverse this line, often in January. These trains only run as far as the station at Bissen which is situated approx 7.8 km from Ettelbruck. These trains are always posted in advance to groups such as ERG.

The cross-border line between Rodange and Longwy (France) is intended for commuters with most Luxembourg bound services in the morning returning to Longwy, with some extended to Longuyon, in the evening, SuX. The new Thionville - Belval-Université - Longwy service [[#BETT_AL|LU10/3]] will provide rather more services over this route from September 2010.

Introduction

This list is based on the timetable year 15 December 2019 to 12 December 2020, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA" refer to the European Railway Atlas France & Benelux Regional Series 2016, by M.G.Ball. An additional map reference in italics for some entries refers to the Schweers+Wall Atlas Ferroviaire de la France Band 1 Nord, dated 2015.

Obscure services

Luxembourg — Luxembourg Triage (yard) — Luxembourg Sud — Berchem Est — Syren — Oetrange

[30] (ERA 63B3; ) LU20/1

This route, which starts by running south from Luxembourg station on the east side of the freight yard, provides an alternative route between Luxembourg station and the Trier line. It is used by trains which do not stop at Cents Hamm or Sandweiler Contern and are given 2 – 4 minutes longer. The following train appears to use this route in the current timetable although the running time seems too short.

RE5107 06:13 Luxembourg - Wasserbillig - Trier Hbf

The compilers would appreciate feedback on the routing of this train. Use of this route is now less likely as the normal exit route from Luxembourg station, shared with line 10, has now been four tracked. In addition the single line section of Line 30 has also been double tracked through to Sandweiler Contern.

This line can also be used between Luxembourg and Berchem (north junction, PK 11.371) by trains to/from the Bettembourg direction. This is most likely at peak hours, when capacity is limited.

See the entry for this line in Belgium - Lines with Obscure or Sparse passenger services.

Wasserbillig — Mertert Port

(ERA 63B4) LU20/4

This ~4 km non-electrified freight-only line is a remnant of the former Diekirch - Echternach - Wasserbillig - Mertert - Grevenmacher line. Between Wasserbillig and Mertert it follows a separate alignment independent of the Luxembourg - Wasserbillig - Trier line. The compliers would welcome any information on recent use by passenger trains.

Tétange — Langengrund

(ERA 63C4; 19D2) LU20/5

This ~3 km non-electrified freight-only branch off the Noertzange - Rumelange branch has not seen any special trains in recent years. The compliers would welcome any information on recent use by passenger trains.

Bettembourg avoiding line: Hettange-Grande [France] (Bettembourg-M) — Noertzange (Bettembourg-W)

(ERA 63C5) LU20/6
