Portugal - Lines with Obscure or Sparse passenger services

Introduction

This list is based on the service valid at 11 December 2011. CP no longer publish a national railway timetable, so the table numbers used (prefixed TCE) are those in the "European Rail Timetable" published by Thomas Cook.

CP's timetable periods nominally coincide with those in the rest of Europe, but in practice timetables are changed on an ad hoc basis, often with little notice.

Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

Obscure services

Lisboa Santa Apolónia (Bif. Xabregas) — Chelas

[TCE 693] (25B2-3 not shown; ERA1 21C1) PT12/1

This south to west curve links Santa Apolónia station with Entrecampos and beyond.

M-F 6401 05:05 Lisboa Santa Apolónia - Caldas da Rainha
6403 05:51 Lisboa Santa Apolónia - Caldas da Rainha
807 14:14 Lisboa Santa Apolónia - Caldas da Rainha
809 16:19 Lisboa Santa Apolónia - Caldas da Rainha
808 Caldas da Rainha - 12:27 Entrecampos - Lisboa Santa Apolónia
6408 Caldas da Rainha - 21:09 Entrecampos - Lisboa Santa Apolónia
SuX 6410 Caldas da Rainha - 23:52 Entrecampos - Lisboa Santa Apolónia

Amieira — Reveles (Bif. Verride)

[TCE 693] (17A2) PT13/2

This south to east curve provides a direct route between the Leiria and Coimbra directions, avoiding reversal in the Figueira da Foz area. The line from Caldas da Rainha to Amieira ( and beyond to the junctions with the Coimbra to Figueira da Foz line) will close at the end of January 2012, thereby closing this obscure route.

IR 807 Lisboa Santa Apolónia - 17:37 Louriçal - Coimbra
IR 802 Coimbra - 19:39 Verride - Caldas da Rainha

Valdera (Poceirão west junction) — Pinheiro (Bif. Aguas de Moura Sul)

[TCE 697] (26A2) PT13/3

This direct line avoids the more circuitous route via Setúbal. From 11 December 2011 no trains to the Linha do Sul ( Lisboa to Faro) are routed via Setubal, therefore all trains will use this route which ceases to be obscure.

Alcácer do Sal avoiding line: Monte Novo-Palma (km 59.0) - Grândola (km 94.5)

[TCE 697] (26A1, not shown) PT12/4

This new cut-off avoids the more circuitous route via Alcácer do Sal. From 11 December 2011 no trains are booked to call at Alcácer do Sal and all passenger trains will run by the new cut-off.
