Obscure services

[Braniewo PKP] – Mamonovo – Kaliningrad

[1] (ERA 251B1-A1; 75C5) RU18/1

Broad and standard gauge tracks run parallel from Poland until just north of Golubevo and then take totally different routes into Kaliningrad. The standard gauge line heads east with an interlaced Broad gauge freight only track to join the line in from Bagrationovsk near the closed station named simply 6km to enter Kaliningrad South station from the east, whereas the Broad gauge passenger service runs via and calls at Kaliningrad Kievskaya to arrive into Kaliningrad South station from the west. The daily standard gauge service between Gdansk and Kaliningrad was discontinued in 2012 although occasional charters from Germany still run. A two pair test service allegedly prior to limited trains running during the World Cup in June 2018 ran on 5 January 2018 on the Broad Gauge to Braniewo.

A Shuttle service believed to have been introduced in November 2015 from a station on the Mamonowo line running direct to Kaliningrad Severniy or beyond avoiding Kaliningrad Passazersky. News items claim this service is proving to be very successful with additional departures from Kaliningrad Kievskaya/О.п Киевская SSuX and Kaliningrad Severniy/Калининград Северный SSuX added on both 1 June 2017 and 16 October 2017. Please check this link for for the latest timings

(Kaliningrad – Primorsk Noviyy –) 39 Km – Baltiysk

(ERA 251A1; 115B1) RU17/5

The entries listed here are those that run on Sunday 30 July 2017, listed as Baltiysk is the base of the Russian Baltic Fleet and became a closed town after WWII with access forbidden to foreigners or those without a permit. Access is still in principle only available to those with a permit with checks at a platform named 39 Km, about 8 km north of Baltiysk and travellers without one have been known to be ejected. As advised by a Guide in a July 2013 visit, the public is able to visit Baltiysk without a permit once a year on Navy Day, the last Sunday in July, although by 30 July 2017 the number of special services had reduced from five pairs to three. Note this is still more than the limited services of one pair SSuX plus another TuThX, and that two 2017 Navy Day outbound services run via Kaliningrad North and reverse to run via above entry RU17/3 :
