WARNING

Because of a shortage of timetable planners at Trafikverket and the introduction of a new system called MPK, there are considerable delays in scheduling train paths. The published PDF timetables will therefore not be updated with further information for the 2023 (T23) timetable. Trafikverket will not issue the complete timetable all at once, but will update it continually during the year.
To find current traffic information, check your trip on a journey planner e.g. www.resrobot.se - see General Information: Journey planner. www.sj.se/enis easier to use, but does not contain MTRX and Snälltåget.

To find current traffic information, check your trip on a journey planner e.g. www.resrobot.se - Click "Reseplanerare" and click the British flag (top right hand corner). If the plan does not contain travel with Flixtrain or MTRX www.sj.se/enis easier to use.
Warning: The sj.se journey planner is used a number of times below. SJ is in the process of replacing the JP/ticketing system. In the first, now opened, step all functions (e.g. Filtering) are not available. This page will be not updated until Filtering is available again, since the instructions may have to be updated. For more information (e.g. dates) see General Information: Ticketing.

The non-electrified DMU-operated lines have a higher percentage of replacement bus operation than electrified lines. The worst line is Linköping – Västervik, where in average the full train service runs on only one day in three.  Check your departure station at Trafikverket before departure to ensure it is a train and not a bus.
The non-electrified DMU-operated lines have more replacement bus operation than the electrified lines.  Check your departure station at Trafikverket before departure to ensure it is a train and not a bus. Stockholm C (Central) is the default. Type other stations at the very top of the page.

This list is based on the timetable dated from 11 December 2022 9 December 2023 (Graphical timetable TRV T23) and the public timetables (available from resrobot.se during the validity of the graphical timetable) unless otherwise shown. It is recommended that the instructions in Sweden - General Information are followed for details on how to obtain relevant timetables. Standard abbreviations used are explained in General Information. document.
This list is based on the timetable dated 10 December 2023 14 December 2024 (Graphical timetable TRV T24) See available journey planners (above or under General Information) Standard Abbreviations

Stockholm Syd Flemingsberg – Järna (Järna Jn.)
Numbered from the North to the South. On approximate the same latitude where possible also from West to East.

Vännäs area
[Old:35,40] (ERA-E 6B5; ERA-R 4B3-4C3) SE24/1

Main line trains use the new (1995) Grödinge line, while local services use the former main line between these points. Trains for the Eskilstuna line also use the Grödinge line, between Stockholm and Södertälje Syd.
Only Vy night trains between Stockholm and Boden and beyond use the direct East to North chord (Vännäs avoiding line).
All trains calling at Vännäs use the South to East and those en route to and from the north also the South to North chord (the latter is the initial main line).

<div id="MM_O"></div>Mora (Morastrand) Oxberg
[Stockholm C –] Bräcke – Vännäs – Umeå C / Vindeln [– Boden Luleå/Narvik]
[Old:40](ERA-E 5C5, 6AB5; ERA-R 4BC3,4AB2,4A1) SE24/2

This line has no regular passenger service but in recent years a special train has run between Mora and Oxberg in conjunction with a skiing event (see Vasaloppet or Snälltåget) on or near the last weekend in February. In 2023 no train to Oxberg is mentioned on the Vasaloppet homepage.  Note this train is open only to participants in this ladies-only skiing event.
If there is major infrastructure work between Gävle C and Umeå C, the night trains may be rerouted to use the old (now freight only) route between Bräcke and Vännäs.

Gävle Central – Gävle Järnvägsmuseet
Whether ay train re-routed this route will use the newer direct line or the original alignment through Nyåker is decided by the CTC operator during the actual night.
(ERA-E 6A2, not shown; ERA-R 9B3, not shown) SE23/3

A short electrified branch provides access to the railway museum. Working involves reversal at Gävle C (or use of the freight only Gävle C avoiding line) for trains from the south, then a shunt move to/from the museum. When specials from Stockholm and Uppsala operate, normally on one or two weekends in the autumn, details should be available on the Museum website when known. Look for headline "Årgångståget". The date for reopening of the museum is currently not known, but work is now progressing and plans for a spring 2024 re-opening have been mentioned in the magazine of the Friends of the Swedish NRM.
The now best way is to do a test using the www.sj.se/en journey planner Vy Luleå/Narvik and SJ Umeå trains are visible here.</br>
1. Click Search Journey.</br>
2. Type Stockholm C in the from box and Vännäs in the to box and select your desired date.</br>
3. Click Search Journey again</br>
4. Click Filter.</br>
5. Tick Only non-stop journeys</br>
6. Scroll down and click Done.</br>
If you are able to see SJ and Vy trains with prices, they are bookable. You can easily click to select any of the close dates.</br>

Järna – Norrköping (Åby)
Vy night trains do not normally call at Vännäs, they are routed to use the East to North chord at Vännäs (Vännäs avoiding line).</br>
[80/81] (ERA-E 1A4 or 5A1 and 5C1; ERA-R 9A1-9B1) SE23/4
SJ night trains terminate at Umeå C, and are routed via Sundsvall C - Örnsköldsvik C and do not normally reach Vännäs.</br>
No planned infrastructure work, which necessitates the use of this line for passenger services, is currently known.

Trains between Stockholm and Norrköping with no booked stops between Södertälje Syd and Norrköping usually run via Katrineholm. This is faster than the shorter route through Nyköping and is also double track throughout.

The former TGOJ line, which parallels the normal ex-BJ line, is available as an extended passing loop. It still has CTC, but the maximum speed is reduced. It can be used to avoid delays when crossing another train, subject to punctual running of both trains. Routing may be altered for operational convenience. With the new Trafikverket project MPK it is from December 2022 no longer possible to see what route a train is set to use here, unless you have a login to the Trafikverket MPK portal. The graphical timetable available to all are based on the path requests, and virtually all trains are visble on both routes. It has been possible to obtain a printout of the trains set to use this route as far as known 10 January 2023. Trains operating only later in 2023 are not all set yet and may be added later. In 2023 there are more variations than ever because of infrastructure work in the Örebro area and south of Hallsberg. The PDF for table 53A is 29 pages, which makes it impossible to fully combine table 53A and the printout for all trains.

This list contains trains visible in the printout as routed via Silverhöjden and existing in table 53A. Please look in table 53A for days of operation and exceptions. A train may not use this line everyday it operates. TÅGAB trains are only listed if they exist both in the printout and in the timetable available from the TÅGAB homepage . Please do not use table 75, it is not reliable.

And as always, verify your plan using a journey planner

The table here shows the most likely (but not guaranteed) trains to use this route.

A freight line, which is a short-cut just west of Ånge bypassing Ånge and Ånge yard. It is normally used by trains not calling at Ånge, by freight and some Night trains.  Trains 67 and 68 are SJ, use sj.se journey planner others are Snälltåget, use Snälltåget website. Snälltåget trains are currently not visible in the SJ Journey planner or v/v. See also SE 24/5, SE 24/10, SE 24/11and SE 24/24.

{3}: Departs from Grängesberg 18:31 instead of 18:34 13 and 14 May 2023, and has a shorter travel time to Ställdalen. Hence it can be suspected that the Silverhöjden route is not used.

Vännäs - Umeå (including north and south chords at Vännäs)
[35,40] (ERA-E 6B5; ERA-R 4B3-4C3) SE23/6

The north chord is used by night trains between Boden and the south seen in public timetable 40 calling at Umeå C, and trains not calling at Vännäs in table 35. Table 35 trains calling at Vännäs reverse here and use the south chord.

Please note: Table 35 is already outdated. The last day for a DMU-operated train Hällnäs - Lycksele was 9 December 2022. There are still Norrtåg EMU-operated trains between Hällnäs and Umeå, which have been given new numbers even if this may not be shown in the Norrtåg timetable. See Norrtåg timetable for information on operating days and exceptions, and which Norrtåg trains use the North chord (shown as not calling at Vännäs).

<div id="VA_VI"></div>Vännäs – Vindeln (Vännäs north Jn)
[35,40] (ERA-E 6B5; ERA-R 4B3) SE23/7

This section of the main line allows direct running between Boden and the south. It is used by trains in timetable 35 calling at Vännäs, but not trains to/from Umeå terminating in or starting from Vännäs. However, it can also be used by a night train not calling at Umeå C, when rerouted due to infrastructure work.

Nyköping Södra/Jönåker/Stigtomta/Vrena – Oxelösund
(ERA-E 5C1; ERA-R 9B1) SE23/8

On one Saturday early in May each normal year (provisional date for 2023 is 13 May), Grängesbergsbanornas Järnvägsmuseum (GBBJ), now in co-operation with Föreningen Sörmlands Veteranjärnväg (FSVJ), can be expected to run a special veteran train shuttle service for a street fair at Oxelösund ("Oxelösund marknad"). Visit the www.gbbj.nu or www.fsvj.se websites, or Visit Oxelösund nearer the time for details. Note: Nyköping Södra is almost opposite the bus station.
In addition an EMU is expected to operate Oxelösund - Nyköping Södra a few dates not yet known, see FSVJ nearer the summer.

In conjunction with this, some empty stock is usually moved from Grängesberg museum on the Friday and returns on the Sunday, using the following freight lines: Lindesberg (Frövi north jn.) – Valskog (Jädersbruk jn.), Mellösa (Flens övre jn.) – Nyköping – Oxelösund and the larger part of, but not the full route SE23/5. GBBJ have been prepared to carry passengers by prior arrangement - contact the Society well in advance, using [mailto:gbbj@gbbj.nu this e-mail address].

Bollnäs (Ovansjö) – Bräcke (Moradal) (via Ångebyn)
[20/42] (ERA-E 5C4; ERA-R 4A1) SE23/9

A freight line, which is a short-cut just west of Ånge bypassing Ånge and Ånge yard. It is normally used by trains not calling at Ånge, by freight and some Night trains.

All passenger trains except one northbound are currently booked to use the eastern route and not via the yard. Infrastructure work (double-tracking from Hallsberg yard towards the south) is ongoing. When the double-tracking of this section is completed (estimated at 2025-2026), the eastern route will close. Trains using the eastern route are likely to arrive at or depart from platform 1 in Hallsberg.
Snälltåget (Transdev) winter sport specials Malmö -Duved are using the Storvik - Ockelbo cut-off. The normal route is now via Stockholm, but there are exceptions, shown here. See also SE 24/3, SE 24/10,  SE24/11 and SE 24/24.

A short electrified branch provides access to the railway museum. Working involves reversal at Gävle C (or use of the Gävle C avoiding line, see also SE 24/6) for trains from the south, then a shunt move to/from the museum. When specials from Stockholm and Uppsala operate, normally on one or two weekends in the autumn, details should be available on the Museum website when known. Look for headline "Årgångståget". The date for reopening of the museum is currently not known, but work is now progressing and a summer 2024 re-opening is now shown at the Museum website.

Snälltåget (Transdev) operates public winter sport specials. Normally thesse trains are booked to operate via Stockholm. Exceptionally, three trains are planned (probably because of infrastructure work) to use the cut-off Snyten - Ängelsberg. See also SE 24/3, SE 24/5, 24/11 and SE 24/24. In addition this chord is also used by the rerouted trains between Borlänge C (and beyond) and Stockholm C when Avesta Krylbo - Sala is closed for infrastructure work.

This is a short extension of the 600mm gauge tourist line from the main station in Mariefred to the jetty used by the steamship from Stockholm. On certain days one train continues to and starts from Mariefreds Ångbåtsstation.
All passenger trains except one Northbound an one Southbound are currently booked to use the eastern route and not via the yard. Infrastructure work (double-tracking from Hallsberg yard towards the south) is ongoing. When the double-tracking of this section is completed (estimated at 2026-2029), the eastern route will close. Timetable for later parts of the year will be included when known. If trains start from and terminate at Gamlestaden instead of Göteborg you are recommended to use other public transport (tram) between these stops. There is much infrastructure work ongoing in Göteborg.
If there is major infrastructure work between Gävle C and Umeå C, the night trains may be rerouted to use the old (now freight only) route between Bräcke and Vännäs.
Uddevalla - Stenungsund is closed for infrastructure (tunnel and catenary) work until 2025. All trains direct between Uddevalla and Göteborg are routed via this chord until then.

[Göteborg] – Örebro/Västerås/Hallsberg – Kilafors – Söderhamn – Sundsvall – [Umeå / Östersund – Duved]
The Göteborg C avoiding line is closed for infrastructure work, construction of Västlänken(a dual-track tunnel enabling trains from Helsingborg - Varberg and Borås lines to access a new sub-surface four-track station under the existing Göteborg C station and continue towards Trollhättan or Alingsås without reversing.
[20](ERA 9A4) SE23/21
Snälltåget (Transdev) operates winter sport (Vasaloppet) specials which cannot use this spur, and are in spring 2024 routed via Göteborg C station, where the train calls and the locomotive runs round. When Snälltåget trains Stockholm C - Malmö C have been rerouted via Göteborg C (during infrastructure work on the normal route), it has also happened that the train has been routed to Göteborg Kville yard, and reversed into Göteborg C (no run-round necessary).
The link Olskroken - Mölndal is expected to be reinstated late 2024, the new planned date for the sub surface sstation is 2026 and for the entire West Link is now 2030.

Kilafors - Söderhamn, which lost its passenger service in 1971, and which has been closed some years for substantial upgrade to be able to reroute freight and ease the overload on Gävle - Sundsvall. In 1971 the old line and the old station were used in Söderhamn. A new West to North Söderhamn (West/new station) avoiding line has been built and is used by the night trains. No passenger service except night trains is planned. Exchange of sleepers occurs in Sundsvall during the night, giving both Stockholm and Göteborg direct connection both with Duved and Umeå and v v. There is no passenger service on the West to South chord in Söderhamn.

[80,90,100,101,106,107,108,109](ERA-E 8A3; ERA-R 12C2) SE23/24
Construction of a partially below ground level(4-6 m) four track line started in 2017 and is ongoing. In August 2020 two temporary tracks on the east side of the construction area were brought into use. The old line had to be removed to enable the work on the new four-track line. The four track line is planned to be completed late 2023, probably with the new timetable in December. After this, the temporary line will be removed and the material reused elsewhere.

Introduction

To find current traffic information, check your trip on a journey planner e.g. www.resrobot.se - see General Information: Journey planner. www.sj.se/enis easier to use, but does not contain MTRX and Snälltåget.

The non-electrified DMU-operated lines have more replacement bus operation than the electrified lines. Check your departure station at Trafikverket before departure to ensure it is a train and not a bus. Stockholm C (Central) is the default. Type other stations at the very top of the page.

This list is based on the timetable dated 10 December 2023 – 14 December 2024 (Graphical timetable TRV T24) See available journey planners (above or under General Information) Standard abbreviations are explained here.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA-E" refer to the European Railway Atlas (All-Europe Edition) by M.G. Ball. References prefixed "ERA-R" refer to the European Railway Atlas (Regional Series: Book 1) by M.G. Ball.

Obscure services

Numbered from the North to the South. On approximate the same latitude where possible also from West to East.

Vännäs area

[Old:35,40] (ERA-E 6B5; ERA-R 4B3-4C3) SE24/1

Only Vy night trains between Stockholm and Boden and beyond use the direct East to North chord (Vännäs avoiding line). All trains calling at Vännäs use the South to East and those en route to and from the north also the South to North chord (the latter is the initial main line).

[Stockholm C –] Bräcke – Vännäs – Umeå C / Vindeln [– Boden – Luleå/Narvik]

[Old:40](ERA-E 5C5, 6AB5; ERA-R 4BC3,4AB2,4A1) SE24/2

If there is major infrastructure work between Gävle C and Umeå C, the night trains may be rerouted to use the old (now freight only) route between Bräcke and Vännäs.

Whether ay train re-routed this route will use the newer direct line or the original alignment through Nyåker is decided by the CTC operator during the actual night.

The now best way is to do a test using the www.sj.se/en journey planner Vy Luleå/Narvik and SJ Umeå trains are visible here.
1. Click Search Journey.
2. Type Stockholm C in the from box and Vännäs in the to box and select your desired date.
3. Click Search Journey again
4. Click Filter.
5. Tick Only non-stop journeys
6. Scroll down and click Done.
If you are able to see SJ and Vy trains with prices, they are bookable. You can easily click to select any of the close dates.

Vy night trains do not normally call at Vännäs, they are routed to use the East to North chord at Vännäs (Vännäs avoiding line).
SJ night trains terminate at Umeå C, and are routed via Sundsvall C - Örnsköldsvik C and do not normally reach Vännäs.
No planned infrastructure work, which necessitates the use of this line for passenger services, is currently known.

Bollnäs (Ovansjö) – Bräcke (Moradal) (via Ångebyn)

[Old:20/42] (ERA-E 5C4; ERA-R 4A1) SE24/3

A freight line, which is a short-cut just west of Ånge bypassing Ånge and Ånge yard. It is normally used by trains not calling at Ånge, by freight and some Night trains. Trains 67 and 68 are SJ, use sj.se journey planner others are Snälltåget, use Snälltåget website. Snälltåget trains are currently not visible in the SJ Journey planner or v/v. See also SE 24/5, SE 24/10, SE 24/11and SE 24/24.

Gävle Central – Gävle Järnvägsmuseet

(ERA-E 6A2, not shown; ERA-R 9B3, not shown) SE24/7

A short electrified branch provides access to the railway museum. Working involves reversal at Gävle C (or use of the Gävle C avoiding line, see also SE 24/6) for trains from the south, then a shunt move to/from the museum. When specials from Stockholm and Uppsala operate, normally on one or two weekends in the autumn, details should be available on the Museum website when known. Look for headline "Årgångståget". The date for reopening of the museum is currently not known, but work is now progressing and a summer 2024 re-opening is now shown at the Museum website.

Grängesberg – Ställdalen (via Silverhöjden)

[Old:53,75] (ERA-E 5C2; ERA-R 9A2-9A3) SE24/8

The former TGOJ line, which parallels the normal ex-BJ line, is available as an extended passing loop. It still has CTC, but the maximum speed is reduced. It can be used to avoid delays when crossing another train, subject to punctual running of both trains. Routing may be altered for operational convenience.

The table here shows the most likely (but not guaranteed) trains to use this route.

Exceptionally, three trains are planned (probably because of infrastructure work) to use the cut-off Snyten - Ängelsberg - the North to South/West to North normally freight only chord at Kolbäck. See also SE 24/3, SE 24/5, SE 24/10 and SE 24/24. Normal TiB trains Västerås - Fagersta/Ludvika use the East to North chord at Kolbäck (Kolbäck avoiding line) and Ängelsberg - Fagersta. This chord is also used by the rerouted trains between Borlänge C (and beyond) and Stockholm C 2 September - 27 October.

{2}: Operates from Duved 10 and 24 February only. Calls at Eskilstuna before Norrköping (disembarking only).

Degerfors (Laxå North Jn) – Laxå

[Old:70,60C](ERA-E 5B1; ERA-R 8C1) SE24/11

No passenger train is normally using this route. However, TÅGAB has an approved path in the timetable set for 2024, but has chosen to operate this route only once, at least before 4 June 2024. If TÅGAB decides to do so later, it will be visible in the TÅGAB timetable .All other trains Kristinehamn and beyond – Hallsberg and beyond use the East to North Laxå avoiding line.

D{1} ThO 17003 [Karlstad C – ] 08:28 Degerfors – Laxå [ – Göteborg C]

Hallsberg – Hallsberg Yard – Skymossen Jn (– Motala – Mjölby)

[Old:53] (ERA-E 5C1; ERA-R 9A1) SE24/12

All passenger trains except one Northbound an one Southbound are currently booked to use the eastern route and not via the yard. Infrastructure work (double-tracking from Hallsberg yard towards the south) is ongoing. When the double-tracking of this section is completed (estimated at 2026-2029), the eastern route will close. Trains using the eastern route are likely to arrive at or depart from platform 1 in Hallsberg.

[Gävle – Borlänge – Örebro –] Hallsberg – Norrköping

[Old:53B](ERA 9A1) SE24/13

This is the West to South Katrineholm avoiding line. It is again to be used for passenger trains while Hallsberg - Motala is closed for infrastructure work (double tracking between Hallsberg and Motala). Trains are rerouted to start/terminate in Norrköping instead of Mjölby between 8 July and 11 August 2024).It is likely that the timetable is available closer to the summer. Use the SJ journey planner to verify:
1. Click Search journey.
2. Example: Type Hallsberg in the from box and Norrköping C in the to box and select a date when the train is to operate.
3. Click Search journey.
4. Click Filter.
5. Tick Only non-stop journeys
6. Scroll down and click Done.
If you find a train with a price, tickets are available and you can use the train.

[Stockholm C – ]Flemingsberg – Järna (Järna Jn.)

[Old:60/61/80/81/114/115] (ERA-E 1A4 OR 6A1; ERA-R 9B2 or 11A1-11A2) SE24/15

Main line trains use the new (1995) Grödinge line, while local services use the former main line between these points. Trains for the Eskilstuna line also use the Grödinge line, between Stockholm and Södertälje Syd.

Järna – Norrköping (Åby)

[Old:80/81] (ERA-E 1A4 or 5A1 and 5C1; ERA-R 9A1-9B1) SE24/16

Trains between Stockholm and Norrköping with no booked stops between Södertälje Syd and Norrköping usually run via Katrineholm. This is faster than the shorter route through Nyköping and is also double track throughout.

Nyköping Södra/Jönåker/Stigtomta/Vrena – Oxelösund

(ERA-E 5C1; ERA-R 9B1) SE24/17

On one Saturday early in May each normal year. Provisional date for 2023 was 13 May, but the special trains were cancelled. Trafikverket could not provide timetables early enough for the societies to make all arrangements. Date for 2024 is not known at time of writing in the beginning of January.

Grängesbergsbanornas Järnvägsmuseum (GBBJ), now in co-operation with Föreningen Sörmlands Veteranjärnväg (FSVJ), can be expected to run a special veteran train shuttle service for a street fair at Oxelösund ("Oxelösund marknad"). Visit the www.gbbj.nu or www.fsvj.se websites, or Visit Oxelösund nearer the time for details. Note: Nyköping Södra is almost opposite the bus station.

In conjunction with this, some empty stock is usually moved from Grängesberg museum on the Friday and returns on the Sunday, using the following freight lines: Lindesberg (Frövi north jn.) – Valskog (Jädersbruk jn.), Mellösa (Flens övre jn.) – Nyköping – Oxelösund and the larger part of, but not the full route SE24/8. GBBJ have been prepared to carry passengers by prior arrangement - contact the Society well in advance, using the address: gbbj@gbbj.nu

Uddevalla – Öxnered avoiding line – Trollhättan [ – Göteborg C]

[Old:130] (ERA-E 5A1; ERA-R 12B5) SE24/19

Trains using the Öxnered avoiding line, Uddevalla - Öxnered West Jn - Öxnered South Jn - Trollhättan - Göteborg C. Trains in Västtrafik Timetable shown as calling at Trollhättan and Gamlestaden are using this chord. Timetable for later parts of the year will be included when known. If trains start from and terminate at Gamlestaden instead of Göteborg you are recommended to use other public transport (tram) between these stops. There is much infrastructure work ongoing in Göteborg. Uddevalla - Stenungsund is closed for infrastructure (tunnel and catenary) work until 2025. All trains direct between Uddevalla and Göteborg are routed via this chord until then.

This chord is also used by the SJ Stockholm - Strömstad summer only train, at least until the Vänersborg railway bridge is opened early 2025 after comprehensive repaires. See also SE 24/20 immediately below.

[Stockholm C –] Herrljunga C – Göteborg Sävenäs – Göteborg Marieholm – Trollhättan C [ – Öxnered avoiding line – Uddevalla C – Strömstad]

[Old:60,130](ERA-E 8A5; ERA-R 13C3) SE24/20 The summer-only train pair Stockholm - Strömstad can't use Herrljunga - Vänersborg - Uddevalla because of bridge replacement at Vänersborg, and not Göteborg - Stenungsund - Uddevalla because of tunnel and catenary refurbishment, both until different dates in 2025. Instead freight-only tracks east of Göteborg C are used.

[Malmö C –] Mölndal – Olskroken [– Mora]

[Old:20](ERA-E 8A5; ERA-R 13C1) SE24/21

The Göteborg C avoiding line is closed for infrastructure work, construction of Västlänken(a dual-track tunnel enabling trains from Helsingborg - Varberg and Borås lines to access a new sub-surface four-track station under the existing Göteborg C station and continue towards Trollhättan or Alingsås without reversing.
