Introduction

This list is based on the timetable dated from 9 December 2018 – 14 December 2019 (Graphical timetable TRV T19) and the public timetables (available from resrobot.se during the validity of the graphical timetable) unless otherwise shown. It is recommended that the instructions in Sweden - General Information are followed for details on how to obtain relevant timetables. Standard abbreviations used are explained in General Information. document.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA" refer to the European Railway Atlas Nordic Region, Regional Series 2016, by M.G.Ball.

Obscure services

Ånge – Bräcke (Moradal) (via Ångebyn)

[40(only when infrastructure work)/42/44] (ERA 4A1) SE19/1

Available as an alternative to the north line, which is single track between Ånge station and Moradal. When trains are scheduled to cross within 6/7 minutes of Ånge, one would use this route - subject to punctual running of both trains.

No passenger service is currently scheduled to use this route.

Stockholm Syd Flemingsberg – Järna (Järna Jn.)

[60/61/80/81/114/115] (ERA 9B2 or 11A1-11A2) SE19/2

Main line trains use the new (1995) Grödinge line, while local services use the former main line between these points. Trains for the Eskilstuna line also use the Grödinge line, between Stockholm and Södertälje Syd.

Mora (Morastrand) – Oxberg

(ERA 8C4) SE19/3

This line has no regular passenger service but in recent years a special train has run between Mora and Oxberg in conjunction with a skiing event (see Vasaloppet or Snälltåget) on or near the last weekend in February. In 2019 Snälltåget (Transdev) operates a train 22 February at 22.00 from Stockholm C to Oxberg. But beware - this train is open to participants only in this ladies only skiing event.

Gävle Central – Gävle Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum

(ERA 9B3, not shown) SE19/4

A short electrified branch provides access to the railway museum. Working involves reversal at Gävle C (or use of the freight only Gävle C avoiding line) for trains from the south, then a shunt move to/from the museum. When specials from Stockholm and Uppsala operate, normally on one or two weekends in the autumn, details should be available on the Museum website when known. Look for headline "Årgångståget". The date for reopening of the museum is currently not known, but can be delayed until 2020 or 2021.

Järna – Norrköping (Åby)

[80/81] (ERA 9A1-9B1) SE19/5

Trains between Stockholm and Norrköping with no booked stops between Södertälje Syd and Norrköping usually run via Katrineholm. This is faster than the shorter route through Nyköping and is also double track throughout.

Grängesberg – Ställdalen (via Silverhöjden)

[53, 75] (ERA 9A2-9A3) SE19/6

The former TGOJ line, which parallels the normal ex-BJ line, is available as an extended passing loop. It still has CTC, but the maximum speed is reduced. It can be used to avoid delays when crossing another train, subject to punctual running of both trains. Routing may be altered for operational convenience. Trains in the graphical timetable which cannot be found in the public timetable have been excluded from this list.

Vännäs - Umeå (including north and south chords at Vännäs)

[35,40] (ERA 4B3-4C3) SE19/7

The north chord is used by night trains between Boden and the south seen in public timetable 40 calling at Umeå C, and trains not calling at Vännäs in table 35. Table 35 trains calling at Vännäs use the south chord.

Vännäs – Vindeln (Vännäs north Jn)

[35,40] (ERA2 4B3) SE19/8

This section of the main line allows direct running between Boden and the south. It is now only used by trains in timetable 35 calling at Vännäs. However, it can also be used by a night train not calling at Umeå C, when rerouted due to infrastructure work.

Nyköping Södra/Jönåker/Stigtomta/Vrena – Oxelösund

(ERA 9B1) SE19/9

On one Saturday early in May each year (2019 date 11 May), Grängesbergsbanornas Järnvägsmuseum (GBBJ), now in co-operation with Föreningen Sörmlands Veteranjärnväg (FSVJ) can be expected to run a special veteran train shuttle service for a street fair at Oxelösund ("Oxelösund marknad"). The site www.gbbj.nu did not respond when tested 9 December 2018.

In conjunction with this, the empty stock is moved from Grängesberg museum on the Friday and returns on the Sunday, using the following freight lines: Lindesberg (Frövi north jn.) – Valskog (Jädersbruk jn.), Mellösa (Flens övre jn.) – Nyköping – Oxelösund and route SE19/6. GBBJ have been prepared to carry passengers by prior arrangement - contact the Society well in advance, using this e-mail address.

Bollnäs (Ovansjö) – Bräcke (Moradal) (via Ångebyn)

[40/41/42/44] (ERA 4A1) SE19/10

A freight line, which is a short-cut just west of Ånge bypassing Ånge and Ånge yard. It is normally used by trains not calling at Änge.

Hallsberg – Hallsberg Yard – Skymossen jn (– Motala – Mjölby)

[53] (ERA 9A1) SE19/11

All passenger trains except those listed below are booked to use the eastern route, and those listed the western route via the yard. Infrastructure work (double-tracking from Hallsberg yard towards the south) is ongoing, and may be one reason why no local (TiB) trains use the western route.

H{1} 3905 Duved – 17:15 Åre – Malmö C
H{1} 3904 Malmö C – 19:20 Alvesta – Duved

Note: {1}: See Snälltåget website or public timetable 20 for information on operating days.

[Hallsberg –] Örebro C – Frövi – Arboga [– Stockholm C]

[57](ERA 9A2) SE19/21

Trains between Örebro and Eskilstuna/Västerås/Stockholm or v v are rerouted via the older and longer route via Frövi, probably for capacity/operational reasons. In 2019, Stockholm C to Stockholm S is closed for bridge work 24 June - 18 August, while Stockholm - Bålsta (Sundbyberg - Barkarby) is closed for quadrupling 6 July - 28 July. During the weeks affected by the first work, but not by the second, some trains bound for Göteborg or Karlstad may be routed this way, but EGTRE cannot be better updated until the public timetables 57,58,60 and 70 for the summer weeks of infrastructure work are available.

D{1,2} SSuX 901/902/903 Strängnäs – 06:06 Arboga – Örebro C
D{1} SSuX 158/159 Västerås C – 06:40 Arboga – Göteborg C
D{1} 758/759 Hallsberg – 17:46 Örebro C – Bålsta/Stockholm C

[Stockholm C –] Bräcke – Vännäs – Umeå C/Bastuträsk [– Boden – Luleå/Narvik]

[40](ERA 4BC3,4AB2,4A1) SE19/22

If there is major infrastructure work between Gävle C and Umeå C, the night trains are rerouted to use the old (now freight only) route between Bräcke and Vännäs.

This is shown in public timetable 40 as trains with no booked stops between Gävle C and Umeå C or Bastuträsk. Whether these trains will use the newer direct line or the original alignment through Nyåker is decided by the CTC operator during the actual night.

No dates for any rerouting 2019 are yet known.

[Borlänge /Gävle] – Örebro – Hallsberg – Norrköping

[53B](ERA 9A1) SE19/23

This is the Katrineholm avoiding line, which may again be used for passenger trains while Hallsberg - Motala is closed for infrastructure work (double tracking between Hallsberg and Motala). Trains are rerouted to start/terminate in Norrköping instead of Mjölby. No information is yet available. There is no table 53 available, but there is a table 53A, with a note that it is not valid between 8 July and 11 August 2019. A rerouting like in 2018 is likely.

[Göteborg] – Örebro – Kilafors – Söderhamn – Sundsvall – [Luleå / Östersund - Duved]

[20](ERA 9A4) SE19/24

Kilafors - Söderhamn, which lost its passenger service in 1971, and which has been closed some years for substantial upgrade to be able to reroute freight and ease the overload on Gävle - Sundsvall. In 1971 the old line and the old station were used in Söderhamn. A new West to North Söderhamn (West/new station) avoiding line has been built and is used by the night trains. No passenger service except night trains is planned. Exchange of sleepers occur in Sundsvall during the night, giving both Stockholm and Göteborg direct connection both to Duved and Luleå and v v.

D{1} 71 [Duved] – 01:35 Sundsvall C – Örebro C – [ – Göteborg C]
D{1} 72 [Göteborg C – ] 21:05 Örebro C – Sundsvall C [ – Duved]

Note: {1}: See public timetable 20 for information on operating days and exceptions.
