Poland (South East) - Lines with Obscure passenger services

Jump to: navigation, search

This list is based on the timetable from 10 December 2017 to 8 December 2018, but it should be noted it is completely reissued around four times per year, the current version covering from 11 March to 9 June 2018 plus there are frequent amendments within periods. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information. Map references relate to the Polish Regional version of the European Railway Atlas 2016 published by M.G. Ball ISBN: 978-0-9955070-1-2 and the Mały Atlas Linii Kolejowych Polski 2011 published by Eurosprinter ISBN: 978-83-931006-3-7

Koniecpol – Kozłów (p.odg. Starzyny)

[107, 109] (ERA182C3, F8) PL18/106

This 11 km line reopened in the 2012 timetable. Not identifiable in its own table, this is used by services in Table 109 with a timing at Częstochowa/Częstochowa Stradom and Kraków not running via Kielce. Much increased use since 2017 with the closure of Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice to Jaworzno Szczakowa.

(Kraków Batowice –) podg Kraków Przedmieśie – Line 602 – Kraków Olsza – Line 100 – Kraków Plaszów

[107, Lines 100/602] (ERA171A5 not shown, R15) PL18/106A

Regular use resumed from 11 March until at least 30 August 2018 by numerous InterCity services in both directions and PR's southbound only. For details enter 107 in the Search by Table section and look for trains with a < at Kraków Glowny and a time at Kraków Plaszow. Usage in the summer timetable period to 30 August is much reduced.

Dęblin: Zajezierze k. Dęblina (p.odg. Wisła R2) – Zarzeka (p.odg. Wisła R1)

[111/550] (ERA183C5, E10) PL18/107

This west-to-south curve avoiding Dęblin is used by direct services between Radom and Lublin which appear in table 111 with a '<' symbol against Dęblin. Note no service due to engineering work between 12 June 2017 and at least December 2018.

[Łódź –] Gałkówek – Mikołajów [– Tomaszów Mazowiecki]

[114/601] (ERA177C1, E8, R11) PL18/108

There are two possible routes between Łódź and Tomaszów Mazowiecki avoiding Koluszki - a direct double track line from Gałkówek via Żakowice Płd to Mikołajów used by express services or single track Line 537 via Słotwiny and Żakowice Połudnowie. Use of both routes is confirmed as a number of PR services have calls at both Słotwiny and Żakowice Połudnowie.

Note a Żakowice Połudnowie station listing does not appear in either PDF, but confirmation of calls and hence use of the route via line 537 are revealed in that station's departure sheet.

Skarżysko Kamienna avoiding line 566

[115] (ERA183A4, F9) PL18/109

New passenger use which apparently commenced late in 2017

TLK13111 Warszawa Wschodnia – 16:07 Radom – Przemyśl Główny
TLK31110 Przemyśl Główny - 12:13 Wąchock - Warszawa Wschodnia

[115] (ERA183B5-B5,C3, F10-G10) PL18/110

Used by same daily TLK pair as PL18/109, plus to Sandomierz from Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski by a limited dates PR pair with details in the PDF.

TLK13111 Warszawa Wschodnia – 17:09 Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski – Przemyśl Główny
TLK31110 Przemyśl Główny - 10:42 Stalowa Wola Rozwadów - Warszawa Wschodnia

Sandomierz – Sobów

[126] (ERA183C3, G10) PL18/111

A limited weekend service was re-introduced in summer 2017.

D1 SSuO R 32430 Rzeszów Główny – 08:36 Tarnobrzeg – Sandomierz
D1 SSuO R 23437 16:56 Sandomierz - Rzeszów Główny

Przeworsk avoiding line: Przeworsk Gorliczyna – podg Przeworsk Zachodnia

[116, 121] (ERA184A1, G11), PL18/112

Use ended on 28 February 2018, with the March PDF entries shown as buses. Use had resumed in 2016. This curve enables trains between Stalowa Wola and Rzeszow to avoid reversing at Przeworsk.

Kraków Glówny avoider via Krakow Olsza

[120/140] (ERA182, R15) PL18/113

The L'viv overnight pair are shown in table 120 running non-stop from Katowice to Kraków Plaszów with < markers at Kraków Glówny but even though they do not appear in 135 or 140, the new Beta version of the PKP Journey planner that can display a route map clearly shows it booked via Skawina as confirmed by a report of an April TLK 63170 journey. Therefore they would NOT use this route which therefore has no booked use.

Kraków Plaszów – Kraków Bonarka (– Skawina)

[135a] (ERA182, R15) PL18/114

This section has had a minimal service since the Kraków Plaszów avoiding curve opened in December 2017. However, since March 2018 it has a regular service owing to engineering work between Kraków Glowny and Kraków Plaszów.

Kraków northern loop line: Kraków Batowice – podg Dłubnia – Kraków Nowa Huta – Podłęże

[120] (ERA171B5, R15) PL18/115

Five trains take this route from 6 to 10 August 2018

There is also allegedly an ongoing workers' service via the above route to the closed PKP stations serving the steel works complex at Nowa Huta but no timings have been available since the 2008 working timetable. At that time the evening and weekend services were worked by a track maintenance draisine with very limited capacity.

D1 TLK 6301 Wrocław Główny - 09:50 Kraków Główny - Przemyśl Główny
D1 TLK 13101 Warszawa Wschodnia - 10:59 Kraków Główny - Przemyśl Główny
D1 TLK 7301 Poznań Główny - 12:16 Kraków Główny - Przemyśl Główny
D1 TLK 3804 Przemyśl Głównyl - 11:25 Bochnia - Jelenia Góra
D1 TLK 3808 Przemyśl Główny - 12:50 Bochnia - Szczecin Główny

D1 6-10 August 2018

Kraków northern loop line: Zesławice (podg Raciborowice) – podg Dłubnia – Kraków Nowa Huta – Podłęże

[107/120] (ERA171B5, R15) PL18/115A

With Engineering works reducing capacity between Kraków Główny and Kraków Plaszow, these services are diverted via Nowa Huta and do not call at ANY Kraków stations. Some reports have advised of services using alternative routes through the east end of Nowa Huta yards including a vertical difference but others say the same outbound and return route on the extreme northbound loop line was used. Additionally as at late April 2018 the eastbound track leading to the flyover approaching Podłęże was under maintenance so all services since the introduction of one local service booked via Nowa Huta from December 2017 have used the same ground level route to/from Podłęże. Further reports of routes taken through Nowa Huta by any travellers would be greatly appreciated by the Compilers.

(Przemyśl Główny –) Hurko – Medyka (– Mostys'ka 2)

[122] (ERA184B1, H12, R35) PL18/116

There are three routes between these points; from south to north they are:

  • Line 91, a cross border 1435 mm gauge line which ends east of Mostys'ka 1 in Ukraine.

This is used between Przemyśl Główny and Medyka by the PKP local service shown in Table 122.

  • Line 989, a 1435 mm gauge line through the marshalling yards, re-joining Line 91 at Medyka.

No passenger services use this line. Note that page H12 of the "Atlas Linii Kolejowych Polski" is incorrect in showing passenger stations on this line; they are on Line 91 and the enlarged page R35 shows the situation correctly.

  • Line 92, the 1520 mm gauge line into Ukraine.

This route is used by the daytime services between Kyiv/L'viv and Przemyśl Główny, and new for 2017/18 the night service to/from Odessa, all operated by Ukrainian railways.

Up until the 2016/17 TT change it was believed Lines 91 and 92 were used on alternate days by the overnight L'viv/Lvov services, with either a manual gauge change at Przemyśl (with a longer stop here) or an SUW2000 gauge change at Mostys'ka 2 (with a relatively short stop at Przemyśl). The gauge changer at Mostys'ka 2 was noted out of use as at October 2017 but an April 2018 traveller confirms his overnight L'viv/Lvov services used Line 91 and the Mostys'ka 2 gauge changer and the new Beta version of the PKP Journey planner that can display a route map clearly shows it booked via Line 91. The Przemyśl Główny arrival/departure sheets confirm use of only standard gauge platforms but this of course does not preclude use of the gauge changer at Przemyśl so further reports would be appreciated by the Compilers.

Stalowa Wola Rozwadów Towarowy – Pilchów

[126, 555] (ERA183C3, G11) PL18/117

This curve (line 565) is used by direct services between Lublin and Tarnobrzeg (- Rzeszow). They can be identified by a '<' symbol against Stalowa Wola Rozwadów in 126 and 555. No service from 11 March 2018 whilst the Lublin - Stalowa Wola line is closed for electrification.

Jasło – Gorlice-Zagórzany – Stróże

[131] (ERA186B5, H10) PL18/118

Services resumed with a PolRegio pair FSuO from 1 October 2017 and a daily TLK scheduled in 2018.

Gorlice-Zagórzany – Gorlice

[131] (ERA186B5, H10) PL18/119

After several years with no trains this short branch had a very limited service from Kraków on Fridays and Sundays from 12 June 2016. Between December 2017 and March 2018 services ran onto the branch from both the Stróże and Jasło directions, albeit Gorlice was shown only in the italic header and footer destinations of Table 131 for four pairs on limited FSuO dates. Trains ran on three dates in June 2018 but currently there are no services.

Stróże avoiding line

[131, Line 619] (ERA79A2, H9) PL18/120

Use resumed with a Jasło - Kraków Glówny EMU service on 1 October 2017 but ended in June 2018 leaving one TLK train pair.

TLK 30105 Tarnów - 17:39 Bobowa-Miasto - Jasło
TLK 33110 Jasło - 12:11 Gorlice Zagórzany - Tarnów

Zagórz – Komańcza – Łupków

[134] (ERA186C4, 187A5, H11) PL18/121

A limited Bank Holiday and summer weekends service resumed from 11 June 2016. From Summer 2017 this was extended across the border to Medzilaborce in Slovakia and this continues in 2018 between 30 June and 30 September 2018. Note that in Summer 2017 SKPL additionally ran a limited Mon-Fri service to Łupków.

Sucha Beskidzka

[135] (ERA185B5, G8) PL18/122

All services between Kraków and Zakopane had to reverse at Sucha Beskidzka until an avoiding curve opened on 11 June 2017. Since then most trains run via the avoiding line, calling at the new station of Sucha Beskidzka Zamek. Use of the North to West and South to West curves can be identified by the train calling at Sucha Beskidzka. The South to West curve has fewer services than the North to West curve.

(Katowice – Mysłówice –) Sosnowiec Jęzor – podg Dorota – Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice (– Lazy)

[140/102] (ERA182B1/C1 R18) PL18/122A

From 12 - 23 March and 17 April - 8 May 2018 some services are diverted away from their usual main line routing via Sosnowiec Główny. German sources have received the following details but it is impossible to identify from the PDFs which of two alternatives would be used. Note some listed below have booked calls at Mysłówice in Table 140 PDF so must use one of the two diversions. Note the section from podg Dorota to Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice is common with PL18/105A:

So far travellers have reported both diversions in use with IC1425 & 16103 via line 180 and IC4526 via curve 667 as suggested.

  • from Mysłówice via Sosnowiec Jęzor and Line 180 to podg Dorota allegedly used by : IC 54171, 14000, 54103, 56101, 16103, 84113, 26103, R24333, 24335, 42324 plus IC1425 [on certain days only], and IC14013 and 41012 on 3 or 4 April.
  • from Mysłówice via Sosnowiec Jęzor to podg Długoszyn (west of Jaworzno Szczakowa), curve 667 and Sosnowiec Maczki to podg Dorota by IC4526 06:14 Katowice - Gdynia on all the above days plus R42326 19:23 ex Katowice - Kielce on 17 April - 8 May only

Oświęcim – Skawina

[141] (ERA182B1/C1 G7-G8) PL18/123

The last attempt at local services between Oświęcim and Kraków lasted just one year and were withdrawn on 10 December 2016. Several international services to/from Kraków Główny use the line during the summer months. Note that trains which use the Oświęcim avoiding line and therefore do not quite run the full length of the line are shown in PL18/124

Skawina - Oświęcim avoiding curve: Oświęcim OwC1 – OwC

[120/140/141] (ERA188C4, G7) PL18/124

This north <=> east curve links the Mysłowice and Skawina lines. It would appear this is used by the entries listed below as the new Beta version of the PKP Journey planner that can display a route map clearly shows the overnights booked via this curve despite "disappearing" in the PDFs between Kraków Plaszow and Katowice. In addition a pair is listed for Summer 2018 in the all year PDFs by < markers on table 140 with calls at Mysłowice.

D To 1 September

Katowice – flyover departure line – Katowice Brynów (p.odg. Brynów)

[146, 151] (ERA188B3, R17) PL18/125

Westbound departures from Katowice platforms 1-4 towards Katowice Ligota can run either via the main line (line 139) or via a flyover (line 656) over the main line to Gliwice. From observation, all trains departing from platform 1 at Katowice appear to use this route.

Czechowice Dziedzice avoiding line: Goczałkowice Zdrój (p.odg. Most Wisła) – Zabrzeg (p.odg. Ochodza)

[146, 147] (ERA188C3, H7) PL18/126

The north-to-west curve avoiding Czechowice Dziedzice is used by all trains in table 146 and also trains to and from Katowice shown in table 147 with a '<' symbol against Czechowice Dziedzice.

Chybie – Chybie Mnich (p.odg Bieniowiec) (– Skoczów)

[146/147/148] (ERA182A1, H7) PL18/127

This west <=> south chord is used when trains to/from Wisła Glebce appear in T147 with a timing at Chybie.

D1 SSuX KS 94329 Katowice - 15:01 Chybie – Wisła Glebce

D1: Runs 11-15 December 2017; 12 March - 27 April; 2 May; 7 May - 7 December 2018 {except 31 May - 1 June, 15 August and 1-2 November 2018)

Nędza Wieś – Kuźnia Raciborska (p.odg. Turze)

[153/160 not shown but in 154] (ERA188B1, G6) PL18/128

This east-to-north chord avoiding Nędza station is used by trains running direct between Kędzierzyn Koźle and Rybnik. Use is indicated by < markers at stations from Nędza to Chałupki in Table 160. From previous experience these should also use PL18/129.

Rybnik – Sumina

[153 not shown/154/160] (ERA188B1, G6, H6) PL18/129

There are two routes between Rybnik and Sumina: a direct line and a longer route via Rybnik Towarowy and Rydułtowy used by all local services. Use of the direct line by TLK services to/from Kędzierzyn-Koźle was previously indicated by a '<' symbol against the intermediate stations in table 153, but these trains now only appear in tables 154/160 to/from 220 although a traveller in November 2017 confirms his train used the direct route plus the Sumina station avoiding line.

Therefore use by those services mentioned in PL18/132 is still highly likely but the direct line is 100% confirmed by a new Summer only pair in table 153 as below. Reports of continued use by the services to/from Kędzierzyn-Koźle would be welcomed by the Compilers

Kędzierzyn-Koźle – p.odg. Stare Koźle – Kędzierzyn-Koźle Azoty

[160] (ERA181C2 too detailed to be shown, R14) PL18/132

There are three routes between Kędzierzyn-Koźle and p.odg. Stare Koźle. From east to west they are:

1. Line 709. This line is the normal passenger route. The 4 km single track line flies over the curves to the Gliwice line and runs via a staff halt at the PKP depot to Peron (platform) 1. It resumed use as the normal route for PR local trains with the June 2016 timetable change and is used by all services other than those mentioned below.

2. Line 151 (northbound). From a travellers July 2017 observation, the equivalent of the train below used a line initially heading east at podg. Stare Koźle before going underneath Lines 709 and 681 to run alongside southbound Line 151 on the west side of the yard to arrive in Kędzierzyn- Koźle Peron 4 to reverse to head towards Gliwice. This line at its divergence is not shown in the Mały Atlas.

IC 4130 Racibórz - 06:32/06:38 Kuźnia Raciborska - Warszawa Centralna
