Owing to the size and complexity of the German railway system, the Obscure Services listing is subdivided by Land (Province). Berlin and Bremen are separate Länder, but it is convenient to include them with Brandenburg and Niedersachsen respectively. Details of Other Sparse Services and Deletions since previous edition can be found at the end of this document.

DB operates a significant number of AutoZüge, all of which only convey passengers with cars. These trains are coded ‘AZ’ and are listed separately in the tables below.

The following lines have few trains (relative to service levels generally in this country), with fewer than 6 trains each way on at least 3 days a week – or do not run each weekday. Lines listed here exclude those appearing in Kursbuch tables 12000 to 12999, which themselves are only a selection of the services shown in the Kursbuch der deutschen Museums-Eisenbahnen (published annually by Verlag Uhle & Kleimann).

DE08/308 Dresden-Pieschen – Dresden-Neustadt Gbf – Dresden Mitte: Diversions via this route have ceased and are not expected to be repeated
DE08/310 Dresden-Friedrichstadt – Dresden Mitte: As a result of Veolia ceasing to run trains in the Görlitz area, the Lausitz Express service to and from Leipzig via this curve no longer operates
DE08/355 Krefeld-Linn – Meerbusch-Osterrath (Krefeld-Lohbruch): The train previously scheduled via this curve on a limited number of days no longer operates
DE08/402 Koblenz avoiding line: Koblenz-Lützel – Koblenz Moselweiß (Mosel Gbf): The autumn weekend trains via this curve no longer operate
