Introduction

This list is based on the timetable dated from 10 December 2017 to 8 December 2018, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information. Map references relate to the 2014 issue of the Schweers+Wall Eisenbahnatlas Deutschland.

Obscure services

Boppard Hbf - Boppard Süd

This is an independent, non-electrified track parallel with the main line from Koblenz to Mainz. It is used by Hunsrückbahn trains on schooldays from Boppard Hbf 07:16, 12:21 and 13:29 and from Boppard Süd 07:22, 12:29 and 13:35.

Mainz-Mombach - Mainz Abzw Kaiserbrücke West

This west to north curve links the line from Koblenz via Bingen with the Kaiserbrücke over the Rhein. It may be used by trains to Hochheim or Mainz-Bischofsheim if not calling at Mainz Hbf. Various types of older carriages are not permitted through the tunnels at Mainz, so any trains including such vehicles are likely to be diverted this way. This should not affect regular passenger trains operating through Mainz; excursions and other special trains are more likely to use this route.

Ludwigshafen (Rhein) Hbf – Ludwigshafen BASF Nord

Various trains to and from Ludwigshafen normally extend into the BASF chemical works, where there are three halts, Süd, Mitte and Nord. Use of the trains is officially restricted to those with works passes. Smoking and photography are strictly forbidden within the works. The train service is shown in table 670.1 in the DB Kursbuch. Normally, most trains run into the works early in the morning and out late in the afternoon, Mondays to Fridays. There are very few trains on Saturdays and Sundays.

In connection with electrification of the line, there is no service between BASF Süd and BASF Nord from 10 December 2017 until 8 December 2018. Instead of the normal train service, there is a shuttle between Ludwigshafen (Rhein) Hbf and BASF Süd, but this is replaced by buses from 25 June until 24 September 2018.

Ludwigshafen west curve: Ludwigshafen-Oggersheim (Überleitung Nord) – Ludwigshafen-Mundenheim

This curve, via the low level west side platforms 6 to 9 at Ludwigshafen (Rhein) Hbf, is used by through trains between the Frankenthal and Schifferstadt lines. There is an RE service between Mainz and Karlsruhe via Germersheim every two hours for most of the day.

Schifferstadt avoiding line: Limburgerhof (Limburgerhof Abzw.) – Böhl-Iggelheim (Böhl-Iggelheim Abzw.)

This line is used by trains between Mannheim/Ludwigshafen and Neustadt (Weinstraße)/Kaiserslautern not calling at Schifferstadt.

Enkenbach – Kaiserslautern Hbf (via Eselsfürth)

This line is used by those trains between Enkenbach and Kaiserslautern Hbf which are not booked to call at Hochspeyer, which is most of them. The service between Hochspeyer and Enkenbach is quite sparse.

Hochspeyer curve: Frankenstein (Pfalz) (Hochspeyer Ost) – Enkenbach (Hochspeyer Nord)

This east to north curve links the Neustadt (Weinstraße) and Bingen (Rhein) lines east of Hochspeyer.
