[D] Freight only. A single Swedish 1435mm gauge track extends to Tornio and a Finnish 1524mm gauge track to Haparanda. The two lines are interlaced across the border bridge. Standard gauge trains to Tornio yard mainly convey containers, which are transferred to Finnish wagons. Broad gauge trains to Haparanda yard are mainly vans whose contents are transhipped to standard gauge vans. A Talgo gauge changer was tested at Haparanda but now seems to be out of use (to keep it operational in winter de-icing sprays were necessary). At Tornio a German DB/Rafil gauge changer is now in small-scale commercial use. There are also facilities for changing wagon bogies here. A study is underway to rationalize the two yards to just one. There is a plan to upgrade Boden - Morjärv - Kalix, build a new line Kalix - Haparanda, and close Morjärv - Karungi - Haparanda; this route would be electrified.

Tornio/Torneå VR - Haparanda TRV

[E] Freight only 1524 mm gauge. A single 1435 mm gauge track previously extended to Tornio station but now ends 600m short of there. The two lines are interlaced across the border bridge. Electrification of the Laurila – Tornio – Haparanda line at 25 kV 50 Hz was completed on 27 January 2025. All transshipment has taken place at Haparanda since autumn 2012 because the crane at Tornio was no longer usable; the only standard gauge activity at Tornio was the occasional transfer of track machines, which were then re-gauged.

In recent years there has been talk of a possible two pair broad gauge train service across the border but in Autumn 2024 VR stated they can run only with financial support, which has not yet been provided. A study on extending the standard gauge to serve freight installations near Kemi, possibly later to Oulu, Kolari and Rovaniemi is under way to report by Summer 2025.

Turku/Åbo VR - Stockholm Värtan TRV

[D] Freight only. Train Ferry (Sea Wind Line). Opened 13 June 1989. Closed 31 December 2011. Equipment for bogie replacement in Turku.
