There has been an aspiration for many years to construct a railway linking Kosovo with the Albanian port of Durrës. | There has been an aspiration for many years to construct a railway linking Kosovo with the Albanian port of Durrës. With plans being developed in the early 2020s to relocate the port of Durrës to Porto Romano, the idea of a rail connected "Dry Port" in Prishtinë also emerged. Feasibility studies in 2023 led the two governments to announce in January 2024 that they had selected a preferred route for the new line, from Shkodër (Albania) via the Drin valley to Gjakova (Kosovo) to meet up with the nearby Klinë to Prizren line.
