This high-speed line is used by trains between Firenze and Roma, and south of Orte also by trains to and from the Ancona line. Unlike most other high-speed lines in Italy, this is electrified throughout at 3,000 volts and has conventional signalling, so can be used by all types of passenger trains. There are eleven connections between the ''direttissima'' and the old main line, but that at Settebagni is no more than crossovers where the two lines run parallel. These are not normally used by passenger trains. Some other connections are several kilometres long. ''IC'' and overnight trains may be diverted off the ''diresttissima'' if running late, so use of connections by these trains is susceptible to change. The routing of high speed and local trains is more reliable.
This high-speed line is used by trains between Firenze and Roma, and south of Orte also by trains to and from the Ancona line. Unlike most other high-speed lines in Italy, this is electrified throughout at 3000 V dc, so it can be used by most types of passenger trains. There are twelve connections between the ''direttissima'' and the old main line, but the one at Settebagni is no more than crossovers where the two lines run parallel which are not normally used by passenger trains. Some other connections are several kilometres long. ''IC'' and overnight trains may be diverted off the ''direttissima'' if running late, so use of connections by these trains is susceptible to change. The routing of high speed and local trains is more reliable.

Following the introduction of high-speed services between Milano and Napoli there is far less use of connections on and off the Firenze - Roma ''direttissima''. The ''direttissima'' is being resignalled to ERTMS standards and there are plans to convert it from 3,000 volts dc to 25 kV ac, at least between Arezzo and Orte. This may result in no further passenger use of connections to the old main line at Chiusi Nord, Chiusi Sud, Orvieto Nord, Orvieto Sud and Orte Nord.
Following the introduction of high-speed services between Milano and Napoli there is far less use of connections on and off the Firenze Roma ''direttissima''. The ''direttissima'' has been resignalled to ERTMS standard between P.M. Rovezzano and 1º Bivio Orvieto Sud, and the resignalling is being completed for the rest of the line up to Settebagni. There are plans to convert it from 3000 V dc to 25000 V ac, at least between Arezzo and Orte. This may result in no further passenger use of connections to the old main line at Chiusi Nord, Chiusi Sud, Orvieto Nord, Orvieto Sud.

In headings to each section below, junctions and the next open station on the old main line are listed in the order they would be passed by a southbound train. In all cases 1º Bivio is on the ''direttissima'' and 2º Bivio is on the old main line.

Introduction

This list is based on the timetable in force from 10 December 2023. Although the timetable is shown as valid until 8 June 2024, most long-distance services are shown as operating only until March. Such trains are not indicated by note 'D' (for a service only running on certain dates), because it is a reasonable expectation that their period of operation will be extended or a similar service is provided instead. It is assumed that the timetable will continue to be updated and reissued regularly, as has been the case since summer 2020. Users are recommended to check the Trenitalia website to ensure they are using the latest version of the timetable.

Table numbers quoted here are from In Treno Tutt'Italia, the official Trenitalia timetable. Standard abbreviations are explained here.

Map references for each route entry are given in parentheses ( ). References prefixed "ERA-E" refer to the European Railway Atlas (All-Europe Edition) by M.G. Ball. References prefixed "ERA-R" refer to the European Railway Atlas (Regional Series: Book 2) by M.G. Ball. References prefixed "S+W", or in italic, refer to Atlante ferroviaro d'Italia e Slovenia by Schweers + Wall.

Two useful symbols exist which show the booked route for trains not calling at a station: in the middle of the train column, a vertical bar "|" means that the train passes through the station without stopping, whereas a middle dot "·" means that the train does not pass through that station but instead takes a different route.

This high-speed line is used by trains between Firenze and Roma, and south of Orte also by trains to and from the Ancona line. Unlike most other high-speed lines in Italy, this is electrified throughout at 3000 V dc, so it can be used by most types of passenger trains. There are twelve connections between the direttissima and the old main line, but the one at Settebagni is no more than crossovers where the two lines run parallel which are not normally used by passenger trains. Some other connections are several kilometres long. IC and overnight trains may be diverted off the direttissima if running late, so use of connections by these trains is susceptible to change. The routing of high speed and local trains is more reliable.

Following the introduction of high-speed services between Milano and Napoli there is far less use of connections on and off the Firenze – Roma direttissima. The direttissima has been resignalled to ERTMS standard between P.M.

In all cases 1º Bivio is on the direttissima and 2º Bivio is on the old main line.
