This list is based on the timetable in force until 14 December 2013, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations are explained in General Information.

In the heading to each entry the map reference for the line in the Schweers+Wall Eisenbahn Atlas (2007/2008 edition) is shown, in italic, in addition to the reference to M.G. Ball's European Railway Atlas.

Obscure services

Mannheim-Waldhof – Mannheim Hbf (via Mannheim-Käfertal)

Most trains between Mannheim-Waldhof and Mannheim Hbf run via Mannheim-Luzenberg. Only one train is now scheduled to call at Mannheim-Käfertal and, therefore, obliged to use the alternative route. Most TGVs between Paris and Frankfurt am Main reverse at Mannheim Hbf and run via Mannheim-Luzenberg.

Appenweier – Legelshurst (Appenweier Kurve)

This north to west curve forms part of the triangular junction between the Karlsruhe – Basel main line and the line to Kehl and Strasbourg. Local trains between Kehl and Offenburg stopping at Appenweier, use platform 9 on the south curve. The north curve is used by through trains between Karlsruhe and Strasbourg, principally the TGVs between Paris and Stuttgart. AutoZüge between Germany and France also use this route.

Ubstadt-Weiher (Abzw Ubstadt) – Vaihingen (Enz.) (Abzw Rollenberg)

This north to east curve connects the Heidelberg to Karlsruhe main line with the Mannheim to Stuttgart Schnellfahrstrecke. It is used by frequent EC/IC/ICE trains non-stop between Heidelberg Hbf and Vaihingen (Enz) or Stuttgart Hbf.

Bruchsal (Abzw Bruchsal Nord) – Vaihingen (Enz.) (Abzw Rollenberg)

This south to east curve connects the Heidelberg to Karlsruhe main line with the Mannheim to Stuttgart Schnellfahrstrecke. It is used by EC/IC/ICE/TGV trains non-stop between Karlsruhe Hbf or Bruchsal and Vaihingen (Enz) or Stuttgart Hbf.

Enzberg (Abzw Mühlacker Süd) – Ötisheim (Abzw Mühlacker Nord)

This west to north curve links the Pforzheim and Bretten lines, avoiding Mühlacker, and is used on Sundays and public holidays 1 May to 20 October 2013 by the following trains.

Trains between Ulm and Ludwigsburg not via Stuttgart Hbf mostly run via Kornwestheim passenger station, using the same line as the local passenger service between Kornwestheim and Stuttgart-Untertürkheim (Kursbuch table 790.11). AutoZüge are sometimes booked via Kornwestheim Rbf:

E1: 1 August to 12 September. Note that on other dates this train calls at Stuttgart and does not take this route.

E2: Runs 19 June; 4, 25 July; 19, 26 September; 3, 24, 31 October. Note that this train is a portion off TGV9571, detached during an unadvertised stop at Vaihingen (Enz).

Note that the return journeys from München are via Stuttgart Hbf.

Leopoldshafen Frankfurter Straße – KIT Campus-Nord Bahnhof

This branch off the Hochstetten line of the Albtalbahn is used by services for workers at KIT Campus, part of Karlsruher Institut für Technologie. This was previously known as Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and is a nuclear research establishment. Although trains to and from KIT Campus-Nord Bahnhof are shown in the KVV timetable, downloadable as a PDF, note KI states that entry to the establishment is permitted only with an official identification card.

Laupheim Stadt avoiding line: Laupheim West - Schemmerberg

Since the south-facing curve off the Laupheim Stadt branch opened for passenger traffic in June 2011, the main line avoiding the branch is used by all services, including an hourly IRE service between Ulm and Lindau, which are shown as not calling at Laupheim Stadt.

Ettlingen West – Ettlingen Erbprinz

Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde e. V. operate a number of steam excursions from Ettlingen Stadt to Herrenalb, one of which starts back at Karlsruhe Hbf and uses the above, normally freight-only, connection. Schlatt (Hohenz.) (Walkmühle) – Hechingen Landesbahn

The service from Hechingen Landesbahn to Eyach operates on Sundays and Bank Holidays between 1 May and 20 October. The following train, the first of the day, runs through from Gammertingen and is the only one to use the above connection.
